My First Day!

My first day at my new job went really well. I was pretty much in training all day long, learning about my employer's mission, vision, and values. They do a really good job of introducing you to the culture and explaining what makes the company so successful. I am definitely even more excited to be joining this company!

Here's my first day outfit.

My apologies for the terrible self photo! It totally felt like my first day of school! I picked out and tried on my outfit the night before. I wanted to make sure I made a good first impression! And of course I had my signature item - a cardigan!

The dress code at my company is way dressier than what I am used to - they prefer that women wear either a suit or a dress - so I now have an excuse to buy more dresses. Which is a good thing because I LOVE wearing dresses! It makes me feel so feminine! I also do think that the dress code impacts the performance and productivity of a company. It just puts you in a different frame of mind. When I was in college, I dressed up on the days I had exams - I've always thought that when you look good, you feel good, and you perform better.

Tomorrow is my first 'real' day of work. I met my manager and co-workers today but didn't get much time with my manager so tomorrow will be more like a 'normal' day. The division I support has a big quarterly breakfast meeting tomorrow so it will be a great opportunity for me to do some networking and meet people I'll be collaborating with!

Oh, and I have already used my employee discount. :)

What is the dress code like where you work? Do you enjoy dressing up as much as I do?

I'm glad that you enjoyed your first day! My office is business casual, with a big empasis on the casual. I'm not a big fan of getting all dressed up and really feel the opposite way you do. I don't dress sloppily, but I'm just not comfortable in dresses and suits and would probably be less productive.

That's so great that they actually give you an orientation. My company doesn't really do that anymore.

I am very much a fan of "dress for the job you want, not for the job you have." My office is technically business casual, but you'll have anything from men in ties to women in capris not much better than sweat pants. I try to be as dressy as I can because I fell better about myself.

That dress is cute!

My job is pretty relaxed, lol! We where pretty much whatever we want. Dress up? Sure! Jeans? Sure! Flip flops? Sure!
I tend to dress up a little more considering I'm in a leadership position but other than that it's all about being fashion forward! :)

i LOVE your outfit! i'm so glad to hear your first day went well. starting a new job can be so overwhelming, but exciting at the same time! we can dress pretty casual here. i like to wear skirts and dresses, so i do that a lot but we can get away with pretty much anything. and we can wear jeans on friday's which i always look forward to!!

hope the rest of your week goes well. can't wait to hear more about it!

YOU LOOK GREAT!!!

My office is business casual with an emphasis on business wear. I can wear DARK jeans with a nice blouse, but that's about as casual as it gets. Although, this summer I did wear yoga pants with a blouse and a blazer one day when I was sick. It still looked professional, though! Haha.

I found that I REALLY liked wearing dresses to work this summer - they were businessy enough for the office but also cool enough for the hot, hot weather. Now that I'm going from work to school in the same day I don't like to get TOO dressy because then I feel kind of awkward when I get to school!!

Anyways, I'm so glad you had a good first day and you are loving the job so far! Can't wait to hear more about it!!

I'm glad the first day went well! I was thinking positive thoughts for you all day.

Yes, I agree that if you dress well you feel better.

Technically we are business casual but I'm not a khaki fan so there's a lot of black pants and fancy tops going on when I'm at work. I only have to wear suits for special occasiosn. Dresses, well I'd wear more of them if I felt more confident!

I'm a huge carrigan fan, too! My office doesn't have a dress code and I'm the only girl...so sometimes I wear suits and dresses...and sometimes I wear a jogging suit with flip flops. LOVE IT.

Um, "cardigan" not "carrigan".

So wait, where are you working that you get an employee discount?

I work in an extremely casual environment. Jeans every day. Once or twice a week I'll even wear an old college t-shirt. If I ever wear something nice, people ask me why I'm dressed up. One guy asked me one time if I had a job interview during lunch.

Yay for the good first day- first days always make me nervous.

I've never had a job where I can dress up; never! Sometimes I get jealous of those who can get dressed up and have gorgeous clothes-- it seems I have a closet full of clothes I can never wear!

In fact, in my last job, I had to wear tennis shoes (or shoes with backs), NO jewelry (even wedding rings), clothes that hid any type of feminine curve, and clothes that allowed me the freedom to physically restrain someone if I had to!

Now that I'm in an ICF, I'm just glad I can wear my wedding ring again!

Super cute Lees!
I love dressing up. Don't you miss how the first Monday night of DG each month was formal dinner? Oh how I loved that!

You look great, Lisa!!! So put together! Love it :)

My job dress code makes me sad. I absolutely love to dress up. So I'm not very excited about my nursing scrubs!

Whenever I leave for clinicals, and Ryan is leaving for work. He is in his dress pants, button down, tie--and I'm in my nappy, purple scrubs--I always give him a sad, pouty face. and then he goes far enough to lie and say "Babe! You look so beautiful! Very professional" .... I'm just like "I'm in fricking pajamas......"

I won't always be a bedside nurse though! :)

We're business casual around here with jeans Friday...halleluiah! I like dressing up, especially when I feel like I have an outfit all picked out in my head and I love it!
