October Re-cap

I can't believe it's already time for another re-cap. How can another month have come and gone!

Current Book(s):
Finished - Firefly Lane (liked this one), The Year of Magical Thinking (loved this one), I See You Everywhere (not a fan of this one), Little Pink Slips (ok chic lit).

Currently reading: The Help

Current Music:
The new Five for Fighting & Mat Kearney CDs rock. Definitely listening to those over and over and over. And I've been really into the Beatles (bought 3 of their albums in October)

Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure:
Probably blogging & reading other people's blogs. I only have about 2 hours of free time each night and one of those two hours is devoted to blogging/reading blogs and I often feel like I should be doing something else - like cleaning or something like that. But blogging is my release.

Current Colors:
Gray - sort of matches the weather. And my mood.

Current Obsessions:
Trying to get to my weight loss goal - I am 6 pounds away

Current Drink:
Water - trying to stay hydrated!

Current Song:
"Chances" by Five for Fighting

Current Movie:
"Last Chance Harvey" - I totally relate to Emma Thompson's character.

Current TV Shows:
Project Runway. Love that show, although I don't feel connected to many of the contestants that are left like I usually have in other seasons.

Current Wish-List:
- A cleaning lady.
- A GPS for my car.

Current Needs:
- Sleep.
- More suits for work.

Current Triumph:
- Beating my 1/2 marathon time goal!

- I made it through my first month at the new job and am slowly getting more and more competent each day. And feeling less and less like the village idiot.

Current Bane of my Existence:
My 5:15 alarm.

Current Goal:
Maintain, and not gain, during the holiday season.

Current Indulgence:
Ice cream - I let myself have it once a week and tell myself I 'deserve it'.

Current Blessings:
Family, friends, and a job that challenges me.

Current Slang or Saying:
"Onwards & Upwards."

Current (Fav) Outfit:
A sweater dress that looks sort of like this - except it's not a cable knit. I bought it thinking I'd wear it on a date with the guy I was dating last month. I guess it's going to be my Friday work dress instead!

Current Excitement:
It's November, which means Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I won't be spending it with my immediate family since I am working the day after Thanksgiving. But I have invited myself to my aunt & uncle's (classy, I know) so hopefully they'll still have me!

Current Mood:
Kind of pissed that we didn't really get 'fall' here in Minnesota. Fall is one of my favorite seasons in Minnesota, but we got totally robbed this year! I hope this means we have a mild winter!!

Haha...I want a cleaning lady too.
I sometimes feel guilty about spending so much time blogging when I am busy, but seriously it's my relaxation time and we deserve it.

Also I'm glad to hear others are so terrible at saying no. I think the hardest thing is deciding what to say no to. Usually things I want to say no to are more obligatory (such as peoples wedding stuff haha...not the wedding itself I don't want to say no to that) so I end up saying no stuff that wouldn't be as bad. I also tell myself I will "stop by" parties, but even if I do just stop by I still think about how I have to do it all day and get annoyed haha. It's definitely a balance.

Um, is it really November already? This year has just flown by. I guess that's what happens when life is super busy.

I love that LOFT dress! Too bad I can't ever afford anything there until they put it on super sale.

I'd probably agree with not really feeling connected to the remaining Project Runway designers. But I am excited that there are actually going to be girls in the end! It does seem to be dominated by men so much of the time.

I am glad to hear you are feeling more and more comfortable at work each day :) I am sure it is very overwhelming--so that is great to hear.

Wow--6 lbs away from your goal? That is awesome, Lisa! Way to go!!

Sounds like you have had a pretty accomplishing month!! :)

I LOVED Last Chance Harvey. Such a great little movie. Made me so happy.

I will have to check out a few of the books on your list. Firefly Lane is on my shelf and needs to be read, so maybe I'll add that after I finish the Jane Green book I started.

Blogging is my release too. I have been thinking of a GPS for my car as well. I am map illiterate. I would also cry if I had to wear suits to work, ha. I am uber excited its November. I have lots of fun things to look forward too -- seeing the Rockettes with my mom in PGH, Thanksgiving break, Christmas shopping.

Wow, I *wish* I were 6 lbs away from my goal weight...you've done such a great job and you look FANTASTIC! (I mentioned that to Abby recently.)

As far as the "guilty pleasures", it is IMPORTANT for you to do things for yourself that give you release & help relax you! The dirty dishes aren't going anywhere, but the stress will build up.

Have a great week and "you go girl!" as far as the job...you're going to rock that job!

I love that dress! Also, we don't have Thanksgiving, so after Guy Fawkes(Nov 5th), It's Christmas preparation time!!!

I think you have accomplished an awful lot in this month, Go you!

Re: Project Runway this season. The tough part is that Irina isprobably the best person there. She is so talented, but it's so hard to root for her because she's such a bitch. On the other hand, I think Geordana is a little over her head at this point (I think she's talented, but needs confidence), but you just can't root against her because she's so sweet.

I always see your comments around but I don't come visit you enough - I'm adding you to my reader, ok? Enough of this! lol

I also didn't realize that you're from Minneapolis! I live in Manitoba and am down a few times a year =) Good luck with the new job, the 5:15 alarm and all of it- I'm excited to follow along!

I love those sweater dresses but I don't know if they'd look that good on me :S

GREAT JOB on only being 6 lbs away from your goal!!!!!!!! I wish I could say the same lol! But it's ok if it takes time, at least I'm maintaining and not gaining! But hopefully it will budge soon!

oohhhhh, I LOVED Firefly Lane! It was such a good one :) I couldn't get into the Julia Glass novel so I put it down.
Glad things at work are going well for you!

I cannot believe it's November already. Time is FLYING by these days!!

I want a sweater dress SO bad and have been on the search for the perfect one forever!!

My goal for the holiday season is to maintain my weight, too. I've lost five pounds since Eric moved away and I'm at my happy weight again, I would LOVE to be five pounds less BUT since it's the holiday season I'm not going to stress about it :-)

So glad you're starting to feel good at the new job! I knew you would!
