A guest post, 4.28, and other deal breakers

Happy Wednesday, everyone.

First things first - have you ever wondered why I fell head over heels for Paris? If so, then head over to my friend Amber's blog - I did a guest post about Paris over there today! Amber arrives in Paris today. Oo la la I am so envious! I told her to give my love to the city that captured my heart!

Today is a day on my calendar filled with many celebrations. It's my oldest brother & his wife's 9th Wedding Anniversary! I tried to find some pictures to scan in from their wedding but the photos must be tucked away in storage! Today is also one of my college friend's 30th birthday's. I'll be joining her tonight to raise a drink in celebration! That will be me in just under a year. Yikes! Time to get going on that 30 before 30 list! I'll be posting an update on it around the 3 month mark, which is just over a week away!

Click here for a little refresher on how I feel about the date, April 28th. Long story short - me and men born on April 28th are just not compatible. 2 of my significant ex-boyfriends were born on 4/28/81. What are the chances?

Everyone seems to have a 'deal breaker' list of some sort. Well, having a Birthday on 4/28 is sort of a deal breaker. Ok, maybe I would make an exception if I really, really liked the guy. But most likely, if I find out he was born on 4/28 - syonara, nice to know you. Let's skip all the heart ache and just go our separate ways.

It's a unique date screening strategy, don't you think?

What are/were some of your dating deal breakers? In addition to the 4/28 birthday thing, smoking and treating the wait staff poorly are all on my deal breaker list...

Deal breakers for me include(d) smoking and having the same name as a close relative. My first boyfriend was a smoker, but I let it slide for a while. He said he quit, but he lied. Lying was worse than the smoking. So he was gone.

And as far as the name, I would never date someone with the same name as my dad. That would just be creepy. The funny thing? My boyfriend and I actually kind of have the same name as each other: Nick and Nicole. Ha!

Oh and an absolute deal breaker is having been a cheater. Once a cheater, always a cheater. I don't care if the guy "has changed" because I don't buy it. I've seen too many cases of this.

I cannot wait to head over and read about Paris!!!

My deal breakers back in my dating days were use of illegal drugs - EVER - and playing video games. I can't take the video game thing. Of course I began to realize that 90% of men are addicted to video games. That caveat certainly narrowed the field!

I totally agree with your strategy. I refuse to date virgos and anyone whose birthday is 9/1. Crazy Charleston alcoholic and crazy coke head were both 9/1 birthdays...
The best part for me of turning 30 was that I woke up the next day and the world hadn't ended, LOL!

I know 04/28/1981 may have had bad memories for you but I really don't think one should reject a possible "date" because of that reson! At least check him out before you toss him aside! I'm sure there are many wonderful people who were born on that day!

Laughed about the 4/28 concept and loved your pictures of Paris. It made me think of how much I enjoyed reading your first blog!

deal breakers: smokers. having the same name as an ex boyfriend. divorced/have children (which i suspect will be harder as i get older and the men i can choose from get older...) and this may sound uber snobby, but i really prefer it if they dude has a college degree and is over 6 feet tall. =)

That is insane about the 4/28 record. Yikes! I don't blame you for fearing that birthday.

I was picky when it comes to dating...
My list of "absolutely no's" were:
-smoking
-being red neck (they were way too many of those in ND...)
-he had to have a good major and going places (I was in college, and if I wasn't impressed with their major of study - sayonora!)
-had to be okay with eating/living healthy lifestyle
-had to fit it with my family and be liked by Mom & Dad
-Catholic or at least willing to convert
The best part about making your "deal breaker list" is that you get to create it and it's all your rules! :)

Looking forward to reading your post at Amber's!! Some of my deal breakers would be smoking/drugs of any sort, INCOMPATIBLE taste in music, someone who's not willing to appreciate the arts, lying, and closed mindedness.

I used to have a 6' rule - any guy I dated had to be taller than that!

Great guest post on Amber's blog :)

A deal breaker when dating for me is smoking and having no ambition in life. Funny enough, my first serious boyfriend smoked and somehow I overlooked that...maybe I should have taken it as sign that he was bad!

Deal breakers: smoking, someone with no manners, someone who is big into drama/arguing, no sense of humor.

I can't wait to read this Paris post!

That's funny that the ex's had your bday! Deal breakers...someone obsessed with video games or massively overweight. Although I can't imagine I would have found myself compatible with a person who has either of these characteristics seeing as how everything I do is active. Oh and perhaps someone who didn't like to travel.

My deal breaker list was clear cut. If they wore boat shoes (think Keds for men) anywhere other than a boat or dock, good-bye. No second chances. Same goes for smoking, acting like a drunk fool on one of our first dates, treating wait staff (or anyone, for that matter) poorly ... all deal breakers for me.

LOL! 4/28 is definitely a unique deal breaker. My deal breakers include smoking (I think it's gross, and it gives me headaches), being too rooted (I want to travel!) and being shorter than me or the same height. I'm not tall so I don't want to be with a guy who's the same height as me. Besides, isn't the ideal a tall, drop-dead gorgeous guy? I'll forgo the drop-dead part, but not the tall part. ;)

Oh my lisa how did you end up dating two boys with the same birthday! That is crazy! For me, since i am an only child that I am more compatible with a last born in a family. My first serious bf was a first born and we were good, but we broke up and now i am with a guy who the youngest of three and it works!

I laughed so hard that more than one person said video games was a deal breaker. I hate them and luckily Eric almost never plays them- but he did get a Mario game he has been playing occasionally but when he does I go upstairs and read- he has been trying to play it when I'm not home now haha.

Anyway, I also laughed that you dated two guys with the same birthday. I honestly don't think that I had any total deal breakers except for maybe smoking, chewing tobacco, drugs- stuff like that, but I was never really attracted to that "bad guy" thing- on that same note I don't like people who are just in general kind of mean to everyone else, I was never someone who wanted a guy who was nice to just me, eventually that will wear off and he'll treat me like he treats everyone! I don't want that haha.

that is certainly a unique dating strategy. i'm glad to say that none of my facebook friends had a birthday today, so feel free to troll for single men there.

Weird!! I'd say a deal breaker for me is definitely smoking... and typos :S
