Ten on Thursday

1. Think back a decade, do you remember what your first cellphone was? Was it as cool as Zack Morris’s phone?

Um, I haven't had a phone for a decade. I didn't get my first cell phone until I was 21. GASP. Can you believe it? Someone call social services and report my mom. I mean, that is essentially child abuse because apparently kids need phones at the age of like 8 these days.

* Excuse me as I step off my soap box. *

Ok, back to the phone. Since I was a late adopter of the technology, it was a pretty normal looking phone. My mom, on the other hand, totally had a Zack Morris-esq bag phone!!

2. What is the first children’s book you remember being read to you?

The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I was obsessed with this book, so much so that I memorized it. Gosh I loved that book.

3. What was your first car? Did you love it or hate it?

My first car was a 1987 Toyota Celica. I really, really loved it. When my dad went to pick my car out, he asked if I had any requirements. I asked that he try to find me one that is red and had a working radio. He totally delivered on it! Oy vey I really loved that car and was so proud of it.

4. Who was your hero growing up?

My parents. They still are my heroes!

5. Think back to your first kiss. Was it everything you dreamed of?

*laughs out loud* Um, I don't know. The fact that I am giggling while typing this means it probably wasn't everything I dreamed of! My first kiss was with a boy whose name is Justin. We were acting in a play and played a young couple who got engaged. I guess when you pretend to love someone every night for a couple of months, you start to confuse reality with make believe. My parents were VERY happy when that relationship ended.

6. What was your first BAD hairstyle choice? (Extra points for embarrassing photos)

Maybe the boy-short hair I had for most of my childhood. God I was ugly. I remember being mistaken for a boy a couple of times. The funny thing is that my mom still thinks I look good with short hair. She just can't let it go and I am sure she'd love it if I chopped my long hair off. Don't deny it, Mom - you know you'd be thrilled!

I'd share photos if I had them, but they are all at my parents' house.

7. What was your first realistic dream? (One where you had to think “Oh dang, was that a dream?”)

I vividly remember dreaming that I got an overdraft shortly after I got my first checkbook. I woke up scared sh*tless, wondering how I could have possibly made this irresponsible mistake. And how I was going to explain it to my parents.

Then I realized it was just a bad dream.

Seriously, who dreams about getting overdrafts?

8. What was the first phobia you remember developing?

I had an intense fear of escalators. I was so sure I was going to be sucked up by them... I remember my mom trying really hard to get me over the fear. To this day, I can't say I am crazy about them...

9. Which character on Sesame Street do you most identify with?

Sometimes I can be grouchy and want to shut out the world, which makes me like Oscar.

Sometimes I want to consume an unhealthy amount of peanut butter cups, which makes me sort of like the Cookie Monster.

Sometimes I let my silly/hyper side show which makes me like Elmo.

10. What was the hardest goal you ever accomplished?

Finishing my first marathon. I said a whole lot of Hail Marys. It was painful. The sense of accomplishment as I stepped across the finish line made it all worth it, though. And I'll be doing it all over again this fall! Can't wait!

My first cell phone was back in 2001; back when TMobile wasn't TMobile and Jamie Lee Curtis was their spokesperson. It didn't text or anything like that, wasn't a flip phone and was generally odd. But it worked!

I also had SUPER short hair at the end of my freshman year. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea. I'm thankful that I had hips and boobs at that point otherwise I'm afriad my classmates would have thought I was a guy. Yes, it was that short.

I remember playing Oregon Trail and Family Feud on that realllllllly old 1980 computer with Justin. Hahaha!

That is soo funny about your fear of escalators, because I have the same issue! I still hate the part where you have to transition from "fast moving out-of-control staircase" to "earth". Ryan will try to mess with me when we go on them, because I always try doing this strange-looking "leap" to exit the escalator.

So scary!!

I am excited for you to complete another marathon! You are going to do so great - especially with how much your time has decreased!!

Also, Mom thinks my hair was "cute" short too. But, let's be honest, it was hideous. ;)But, thank you, Mom - for being so sweet and encouraging to us!!!

My first cellphone back in the late 90's was the old school nokia that basically everyone had with the changeable faceplates and little antenna. Those phones lasted forever though even when dropped, run over, and who knows what else.

I had some bad hair styles as a kid. I completely blame my mom as well.

Hahaha, Zack Morris phones, and dreams about overdrafting - LOVE it!

I don't know if this was my first phobia, but I feel about treadmills how you do about elevators. It started when I was younger and even though I know I'm not going to get "sucked under" the belt I still won't get on one.

Well, I guess it runs in the family! I, also, hated escalators for many years but have forced myself to adapt to them! I still have this fear of my shoe getting caught in them, though, and have a hard time getting on them! I won't comment about the short hair cuts :)!

I can't remember exactly what my first phone was but it was a flip phone. I remember my dad has this one that was the size of bottle of pop and so thick! It was hilarious.

Haha my first kiss was nothing I dreamed of! I was away one summer and met a group of kids. They found out that I hadn't kissed anyone yet and dared one of the guys too. Definitely not romantic at all!

Much as I think cell phones are out of control with kids- I think back to middle school sports trying to find a freaking quarter to call my mom to pick me up and I think- wow cell phones would've been nice haha.

Ah, these questions were fun :) I love your first kiss story haha

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT ever go to the Bethesda metro station on the red line of the Washington Metro System and take the escalator. I'm not even afraid of escalators, but I was freaking out at the thought of having to go back down it. Thank goodness for elevators.

Back in the 80s, it was the longest escalator in the Western Hemisphere, outdone only by the Wheaton station escalator which takes 2:45 to ride. There are Youtube videos of it.

My first cell was a pre-paid phone my parents got me for christmas when i was 17. They wanted me to have it for emergencies. yet they did not want to pay for it. and you had to add minutes every so many days. i hated that damn phone. i couldnt have a phone book and it was lamesauce and i
t was a pain to have. i used it for 2 years until i upgraded to nextel. and my parents totally paid that cell bill for the same reasons they bough the first phone.. so i could have it on long trips and at college..

LOL your dream about overdrafting you check book was too funny!
My first cell phone wasn't until 2001 and it was a motorolla and an awesome phone.
My first kiss was actually awesome, we watched the sunset on a mountain and he kissed me, I was 18.
My mom cut my hair forever, when I was 7 I had leaned my head back while she was cutting and she cut several inches too much. When I was 11 I refused to let her continue cutting my bangs and that is when they grew out and I've never gone back.
Yay for your marathon, you rock!!!

My first phone was a Nokia N70. I lost it when I was working abroad. I had so many beautiful pictures there, and the phone itself was practically my bestfriend, I cried over the loss. Now, I'm learning to love the new one and I guess, in a little more time, it will gain the same status as my last phone..crazy I know :)

My first phone was a nokia (and it was post 9-11 - my parents had freaked out that they couldn't get in touch with us so it was just a precaution). The only thing I could do with it (apart from calling people ) was play snake. The thing was huge!!

My grandfather did work on elevators and escalators. So while I was never scared of them, ever since I remember, I always knew that they were a little dangerous and not something to play on.
