Ten on Tuesday

1. What book, movie or song has made you want to travel to a particular place? (eg. I went to Prince Edward Island because I was such a Anne of Green Gables fan)

The final episodes of Season Six of Sex and the City made me want to travel to Paris. Yes, Carrie was pretty depressed/down while she was there, but it just really, really strengthened my desire to visit.

2. Aside from your significant other, who would you want to take with you on a dream trip?

I would take my mom to Italy.

3. Where would said dream trip be to?

As I said above, I'd take her to Italy. Being Catholic is a huge part of who we are. I'd love to attend Mass at St. Peter's Basilica - I think it would be such a special experience. Plus my mom enjoys wine and coffee so I think we'd really enjoy this region. :)

4. If you were hosting guests or providing tips, what three things would you show visitors to your hometown? (be it where you live now or where you grew up)

I am choosing where I live now (Minneapolis) because my home town of 500 doesn't have 3 sites worth visiting. Here goes for Minneapolis:

- We'd visit Minnehaha Falls, followed by lunch at Sea Salt.
- We'd go for a nice walk or fun around my favorite lake, Lake Harriet - and possibly two others if they were up for a 10 mile run, but most visitors aren't!
- I'd show them Wild Rumpus. It's actually a children's bookstore, but it's THE coolest children's bookstore ever! Afterwards we'd go out for ice cream at Sebastian Joe's.

5. If you had a long weekend ahead of you, where would you head – beach, city or country/mountains?

I would head to my parents' lake cabin. I spend 1-2 weekends a month there during the summer months. It is my little slice of heaven.

6. Do you have a passport? If so, did you get it for a particular trip or just to have, in case?

Heck yes, and sadly it is expiring on my next Birthday. I am so sad to part with it! It's been on some fabulous trips with me!! I got it when I was a sophomore in college so I could travel to London over spring break to visit a friend that was studying abroad!

7. Are there any travel souvenirs you collect? If not, is there something else you collect?

I try to buy coffee table photography books of the cities I visit.

8. If you could name a paint colour, what colour would it be and what would you call it?

Oh geez. I suck at the creative questions. It would be a shade of pink - not too light, but not too dark. I'd call it Pretty in Pink. Although that is probably already a name of a paint color!

9. If you were heading away for a weekend city break solo, where would you go? (forget about practicality here and flight times, assume you can get to any city in the world for the weekend)

That's Easy Peasy. My answer is Paris. In a heart beat. I'd stay in the Marais area and soak up the sights and sounds of the city. I'd sip wine at an outdoor cafe. I'd wander aimlessly along the Seine. I'd blog from the Troccadero area while gazing at the Eiffel Tower. I'd rent a bicycle and discover new areas of the city.

Le Sigh. Oh how I love Paris.

10. Is there a song or a smell or something that you strongly associate with a particular holiday/place/time, such that it always takes you back?

There are various scents that I associate with Christmas. I actually walked into my sister-in-law's basement over Easter weekend and said, "It smells like Christmas in here!" I think it's the scent of nutmeg. And pine trees. And cranberry. So many different things, actually. Oh how I love Christmas!

I like your descriptions of Paris! My place would totally be Greece. After Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and My Life in Ruins I just totally want to make this trip.
I love how smells can take you back!!
Lake places are the best! My Grandparents had a cute little place that my Grandaddy built and we spent large portions of our summers growing up down there in the summer time.

I love your Minneapolis list, Just the name Wild Rumpus sounds amazing. I'm going to be down a number of times this summer and I hope I can cross these off my "Must See" list =)

Wow, I suddenly wanna be instantly rich to afford going to the top three places abroad I and hubby wanna go to. First, Spain, particularly to visit Barcelona's Signiora Familia. It has a special place in our list because of the architecture side of it and because we're Catholics too. Then, Europe, anywhere there. Oh Paris. And Greece, Santorini - the villas against the beaches and the sun.
Thanks for stirring that excitement again in me.

I loved this 10 on Tuesday. I always wanted to go to Prince Edward Island because of the Anne of Green Gables books. Ummm, I think we need to hit the Wild Rumpus later this summer. =) You should renew your passport, just for the sake of having it. I dont have one but really do need to get one.

If someone came to visit my small town, we'd definitely hit up a few local places, but would more than likely spend the time in Pittsburgh.

I'm holding you to the list of three things to do in Minne for when we meet up in August, k? Running around a lake sounds like a lot of fun to me, too =)

For me, SATC made me want to go to NYC ;)

And when I travel, I make sure that I bring at least ONE thing that reminds me of the place. Sometimes it's coffee mugs, sometimes it's a postcard... When I'm rich I can start bringing back more substantial things ;)

Me and Eric aren't Catholic - but we might go to Mass when we're in Italy, still! We'll see if we have time.

I laughed out loud when you said there aren't three things in your hometown to show anyone. Haha!!

I'll come visit you and we'll run around ALL the lakes ;)

I just did the whole thing and my comment didn't work! I would very much like to visit your Minneapolis. I need to go to that bookshop!

I love that you picked a bookshop as one of the places you'd take someone to visit on a tour around your city. It's sooo you!

And I never thought to buy coffee table photography books as a souvenir. I usually buy a book about the local area, postcards (for me) or jewellery. I love your idea.

Well, actually, there is one place in your hometown you could show people - the "rock garden"! That would be about it, though! Rather sad, huh? I would love to travel to Italy with you! We have to put that on our wish list! It is so good to have you back online and the positive vibes are felt!

Oh can I do these questions tomorrow haha- 10 on Wednesday? I love travel questions.

I also love how much you love Paris! I went there but only for 2 days so I wasn't really in love- next time I want to go with you so your excitement can rub off on me!

I am going to be really sad when my passport expires- why don't we get to keep them?

I am so with you on Christmas scents! A little tip for you (if you don't do this already)....

But once mid-late September comes, and I start feeling "Christmas-y" (hahaha, especially in AZ):

I boil a pot of water, and sprinkle in nutmeg & cloves, 1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract, and a few cinnamon sticks whenever I want my house to smell yummy & nostalgic!

Also, the Minneapolis sites sound fantastic. I would do the 10 mile Chain-of-Lakes run with you :)

You are making me long for Paris. If I were to travel with someone else I would go with my mom to France. Oh France, I hope I get to you soon.
