Chocolate & Wisdom

In an effort to satisfy my sweet tooth (and avoid the vending machine), I have been packing little individual Dove Dark Chocolates for a little post-lunch pick-me-up. Each little chocolate has a nugget of wisdom inside the wrapper. It's kind of fun to unwrap the chocolate and see what it will say.

Last week, I opened up a chocolate to find the following message:

"It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance."

Later that evening, I was having a post-dinner pick-me-up (it was that kind of day). Guess what the message on that chocolate wrapper said?

"It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance."

Alright, alright Dove. You've made your point.

While I could write a post about how hard it is to open up my heart after the number of heart-aches I've been through, that's not what this post is about. Instead it's about yet another quote from a piece of chocolate... consumed on another day. (I do have to fit into a dress for the wedding I'll be attending with the 2 ex-boyfriends this weekend.)

This quote posed the following question:

"What would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?"

Isn't that a good question? It certainly kept me thinking long after that chocolate had been consumed... and digested.

A couple of answers that came to mine for me were: Open a "Shop Around the Corner" type of bookstore - but for adults, not children and write a book. Both just seem so daunting & unachievable - but a girl can dream, right?

What would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?

PS For all the Parenthood watchers out there - is anyone else wishing to be spontaneously serenaded by a man with a ukulele?

I believe that someday you might just be able to open that shop around the corner bookstore! You're a planner and you could totally do this, you just never know what the plan is for you or how things are going to unfold!!
You are going to post pictures of the dress that you wear right?

A book shop or a flower shop would be fun to own and operate. Its definitely a good question though, makes you think!

I think we should all try to live with this mentality - to have a little more faith in ourselves and take a leap "as if we couldn't fail". I read a really great post on this very topic a few days ago - I think you might like it:

Ah, the joys of the Dove wrapper! I don't know how you don't just eat the whole bag when you're at home, though!

I still think that you, me and Mandy need to open up that book store. We could totally rock it. Oh, the stories we would have =)

And yes, I'd love to be serenaded. I totally cried during that scene!

This post was just what I needed today. I am about to embark on a big change in my life that is my answer to this question... I'm doing it, though I'm totally terrified I will fail. But reading this post made me realize that that's ok! Sometimes we have to just go for it, dive in, and if we fail... well then we do.

Also, I would love nothing nothing NOTHING more than opening a bookstore.

That is so cool about the back-to-back Dove wisdoms!! Love when things like that happen. I try finding deep wisdoms like that in Laffy Taffys and have only found lame jokes...

Maybe I need to consult Fortune Cookies or Dove's, huh. ;)

My 2 blind dreams are :
1) Go for my NP. I'm just scared of getting knee deep in thick mud! But, I think this goal is attainable.
2) Move near water and open a restaraunt with Ryan. This is our retirement dream. It won't happen. Way too risky for our style. But, we can dream!

I think you will someday reach your dreams. You are a great writer, very creative, and have a entrepreneur spirit in you! I have faith :)

A good friend of mine and I were JUST talking about how we would love to open a bookstore someday. We were standing in Rainy Day Books which is an old, indepenent bookstore in Kasnas City and it's just adorable! We loved it and contemplated what it would be like to open our own.... I wish it wasn't so risky.... But, yeah, that is what I would do too! :)

Those dove wrappers are smart! I love the inside messages. Just had a few yest at a meeting I went to. If I could do anything, I'd be a full time blogger/writer or nutritionist/personal trainer.

Oooh I LOVE the little nuggets of wisdom inside the dove wrappers! So much better than fortune cookies ;)

Hmmm, what would I do if I knew I wouldn't fail? Probably become a full-time stay-at-home freelance writer/author!! Ahhh, I love working from home :D

I've heard that quote before - what would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail - and I've always loved it. Just makes you imagine so many possibilities! It's great.

Apparently I need to buy some Dove chocolates! The combination of chocolate and inspiration appeals to me!

Ummmm, I would open that bookstore with you and Nora! For real, how do we find investors and make this happen?

If I knew I would not fail, I'd ask for a raise and also ask for 6-months off a year to travel. Or to just be.

I hate Parenthood, because it's so damn good and now the season is over. Damn them!

I love that those chocolates come with little messages, especially as they're the kind of messages that make you think. It's a pity they don't stock them here.

I could see you with your own bookshop a few years down the line. It'd totally suit you. And you'd offer brilliant advice on picking books!
