Book Review: Wishing for Snow

It's been quite awhile since I have done a book review on here!  I have been reading, though, I just haven't taken the time to share any of my reads!

Last week I finished "Wishing for Snow" by  Minrose Gwin.  It's a memoir that tells the story of Gwin's mother.  It's a very sad story as Gwin's mother suffered from mental illness, to the extent that she eventually had to be institutionalized.  It was pretty heartbreaking to read about Gwin's relationship with her mom as he mom did not want to be instititutionalized and made it clear that she was VERY upset with Gwin's decision to place her in a hospital.  I can't imagine having to make that kind of decision - and then to receive angry letters from my mom...  Yikes.  I have always been thankful for the healthy, strong relationship with my mom, but this book makes me ESPECIALLY thankful for our relationship.

This was definitely an extremely heavy book and was difficult to get through at times.

What are you reading these days?

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from TLC Book Tours. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Right now I'm reading something about The Lost Colony of Roanoke, but I recently finished reading Bossypants by Tina Fey which I loved!

Lisa, how painful was this book? As you know, my mum had quite severe mental health problems. I'm tempted to read this book, but wonder if it would be too much?

I have just finished 'A Visit from the Goon Squad' by Jennifer Egan. It is spectacularly good, lots of life stories intertwined, sometimes only briefly, and just brilliant!

I need to mail you Commencement! I keep forgetting... I am sorry! Maybe at this point I will just bring it with me to Mlps next month. Do you need something to read? If you do I will get it in the mail this weekend (as long as your post office isn't closing - haha, little joke. There are almost 200 *possibly* closing in Iowa).
Right now I am reading The Potato Peel Society book and *hoping* it picks up soon because our book club meets on Thursday to talk about it. :/
I just finished Silver Girl by Elin Hilderbrand. It was really good! Definitely a wonderful beach read! :)
Let me know about Commencement!

I've been ready baby books as of late, but some friends are starting a book club where we'll focus on reading books by Louisiana authors, and our first book is Dr. Mary's Monkeys. I'm excited to have a new subject!

I just finished The Help, with four more books waiting to be started while laying on a beach! I have read a couple books you have done reviews for, and they were pretty good. I might just have to check this one out :)

Interesting read - sounds heavy! We are very lucky to have such a great relationship with our Mom.

I've been meaning to ask you for a request on a good read? I finished "The Glass Castle"...finally. I know...it took me like 1 1/2 months to finish.

Any suggestions?

When I first read that title, I thought YOU were wishing for snow! Haha, I am glad you are not :-)

I am reading Pioneer Woman's book "From High Heels to Tractor Wheels." It is SO good!

I haven't started a new book yet since finishing mine about 4 days ago but I have 'The Shack' sitting on my shelf and want to start reading it. I also just requested this months blogger book club book from the library so I'm hoping it comes in in time!

I'm going to assume that you mean reading recreationally. I finished reading Chocolat last week, and I've been catching up on some of my magazines since then. I have been debating what I want to read next, but it will probably be The Scarlet Letter.

I just picked up Two Kisses for Maddy last night at the library and I can't wait to start reading it!

My relationship with my mom isn't perfect but it is CERTAINLY better than the one in this book ... thankfully!

Thanks for being on the tour.

Ug. I am slacking on my reading...it's hard to juggle everything at once! However, I started Olga, A Daughter's Tale and it looks like it may be good, but I am not sure yet, as I am only on page, um, 1. Have you read the Alchemist?

You've been such a prolific blogger and now I look down and read all these posts as I try to catch up on your world -- family time, good books, and congratulations on the exam! And much more!

Work stress and more have me MIA these days as a regular commenter but I do read and am pre-posted, so check in and I'll do the same! I'm missing blogland!
