On Being Flighty

Trivia time.  Do you recognize this character?

That, my friends, is Forgetful Jones.  Bonus points to those of you who recognized him - clearly you were paying attention during your Sesame Street days!

I have been channeling Forgetful Jones lately.  I mentioned my forgetfulness in my recap of Kyria's visit, but it's been a pervasive theme of September.  How so?  Read on.

  • On my way back from Charlotte, I forgot my credit card in an airport restaurant.  I realized this when I got back to Minneapolis that evening.  Luckily I had only used it once that day so it was easy to figure out where I left it.  I had to cancel it and re-order it, which was painless, but still annoying.
  • Last week I was in Austin for work and when I got to the airport to fly to Dallas, I realized I had forgotten my runnig shoes in the room!  I called and luckily they said they would ship them to me.  I was so so so annoyed at myself, but luckily I had an extra pair since I had bought a pair when I forgot my shoes when I went to the cabin one weekend this summer (are you noticing a theme here?).
  • I got back from my business trip and started to unpack and realized that my iPod was not in my suitcase.  Turns out I left that in the room in Austin, too.  Sheesh.  What is my deal.  I was in a rush that am as we left for the airport at 6:30 (for a 7:15 flight - by the way - so I was in hyper nervous mode as I am not a 'let's get to the airport at the last minute' type but when I travel with a rep, I do not make the decision on when we depart for the airport, etc).  I called the 4 Seasons and they had noticed my iPod when they shipped my shoes, so luckily they also shipped my iPod to me.  Phew, what a relief!
  • On Saturday morning I went to run club and forgot my garmin.  Not the end of the world as I wasn't planning on doing any pick ups since I have been so sick this week, but it was just the last straw in a string of forgetfulness.
So yah, I basically am operating on half a brain these days.  I blame the lack of sleep and my sinus infection.  But I am actually just a really forgetful person in general.  I was the child who always lost a mitten at school.  I tend to forget things at people's houses when I visit.  I have a tendency to lose my keys.  I really hate this personality trait, but I guess you have to take the good with the bad, right?

Are you a flighty/forgetful person?

Glad your shoes and ipod are getting sent to you! Somedays I feel like I am the very caricature of the absent-minded professor stereotype.

I get flighty when I'm really tired, which is what I suspect happened with you too. Get some sleep!

I'm bad for setting my things down and leaving them places. I've left my phone in two different bathrooms doing this and I lost that $40 at the farmers market doing that. It's something I definitely need to work on!

I would say in general I am very flighty/forgetful. Lol

I get really forgetful when I'm sick or in a hurry, and it sounds like both of those things apply to you! I also usually manage to leave something in hotels, even if it's just a pair of socks. I've gotten really used to calling them and having them ship me my stuff. I'm glad you'll get your ipod and running shoes back!

Wow, that is a lot of stuff to forget! impressive, really. When I forget something it's usually long gone, and it can be years before I go looking for it again. I think my wife uses that to her advantage sometimes.

I was so paranoid about losing my keys that I just resorted to wearing them on a lanyard with my id badge around my neck at work. Quite the fashionista!

i dont so much lose things but i lose memories and ideas, a lot. i pretend this has nothing to do with the inevitable dementia in my future. i do however, have the nasty habt of throwing away IMPORTANT papers. like my season football tickets in college, yeah, i did that.

Oh gosh! Thank goodness for nice hotel staff. I'd have been panicking - if I wasn't already panicking about my flight. That's cutting it pretty close!

Glad you're getting back your shoes and ipod! Nice hotel.

If I'm feeling stressed out, I get really forgetful. To the point where I'll leave the washroom without turning the water off after I brush my teeth, wash my hands, etc. That's always my indicator that I need to chill out a little bit!

You are so lucky they still had those things from your motel room! We have never had luck with that - as they always tell us they weren't found! Gah - hate it that employees evidently hike the things they find! I am so happy that they are sending them to you! Whew!

Wow, you have been forgetful lately! I am not usually forgetful, but I definitely have my moments.

That's so awesome that the hotel was able to ship your shoes and ipod back to you! They could have easily kept them, but that would have been bad for business.

I am usually pretty good at remembering things, and it really irks me if I do forget something.

Hope you are starting to feel better!

Gosh, you are on a roll! You have just been extra busy, extra tired and extra sick. I am sure this will pass.

I am not really a forgetful person. I am one of those people who packs for a trip 4 days beforehand and then checks over and over if I have everything. I am a bit of a control freak that way. When I do forget things, I really beat myself up about it. Since I travel a lot, I have gotten in the habit of making sure to put things back where they belong (in my suitcase etc) RIGHT AWAY, or else I will forget them for sure!

I did jump in the river with my sunglasses on and I lost them. That is just as bad!

I can be SO forgetful sometimes, especially if someone asks me to do something. I either have to do it RIGHT THEN or I will totally forget they asked me. (This happened twice on Sunday, by the way.)

And today? I've made so many stupid little forgetful mistakes while working that I just want to home and crawl into bed. It just makes me feel so off-balanced.

Hope things get better!

What's weird about me is, the busier I am, the less forgetful I am! It's like I am forced to be uber organized! If I'm not busy, that is when I forget the little stuff!

I do have a hard time multi-tasking around people. If people are talking to me when I am trying to focus on something, I will inevitably forget something. This makes me worry because when teaching kids are *always* clamoring the teachers attention. (which is why middle school is probably going to suit me best!)

Ah, I can completely relate to this post and was definitely the child who left things at school and as a result nothing from my classroom ever ends up at the lost and found in the school, I keep everything in the room and try to get everything back to the rightful owner :)
I've gotten a little better as an adult, but I still forget things often, most notably I always forget some CORD I need for all my electronics- I have like 5 camera chargers now, oops! I also have been forgetting a LOT lately, and losing things (which are often right where they should be and I just don't trust myself to put it where it should be!). I decided this is because things have been too crazy lately (which I'm sure accounts for some of your forgetfulness) so I am trying to scale back...easier said than done though!

I forget stuff all the time. Phone chargers, keys, jumpers, umbrellas, bags. Scotland is littered with stuff I have left behind at some point.

I never used to be flighty ... until I got pregnant and had a kid. There is TRUTH to the term, Mama Brain! Good grief.

Lauren @ Sassy Molassy said...

Oh my gosh, that would be sooo stressful to have forgotten any of those things. Good thing you were staying at nice hotels that were willing to ship it back to you. I hate when I forget essential running gear so I have to go home and run alone rather than with friends.

I've been flighty and forgetful lately. It just seems like too many things are roaming in my head and it's hard to focus. Must live more mindfully! I think YOU have been a busy soul!

In general I'm not a very forgetful person. But I do remember in college, accidentally leaving my cell phone at home and needed my parents to overnight it to me. So not fun...
