Christmas in June!

Greetings and Happy Friday, everyone!  I hope it's been a good week for everyone!

Last night I hosted a little party for the group of people I worked with.  We referred to it as Christmas in June.  Why?  Well, we never got our act together around the holidays...  2 of us were studying for the CFA, I had sinus surgery, and life was just so full for everyone then, so we decided to push our party off until June.

I have a great patio area with pool and grills, so volunteered to host right away.  We made it a family event, as my boss and co-worker both have kids.  It was such a fun night!  The kids swam like fish and the adults had a great time.  I have no pictures of the food because my co-workers do not know I have a blog, and it would be been a little weird to start snapping pictures of the food.  ;)  Plus it was a very informal event!  I provided brats, hot dogs, burgers, and all the fixing, and everyone else brought a side or dessert to share.  Everyone went home full and happy, I think.

This party is sort of the end of an era for me.  Sounds dramatic to say this, but I have sat in this little pod for the last 1.5 years and that set up is coming to an end.  I work on an open-air trading floor, which means we all sit very close together and there are no cube walls - so you really can hear everything your co-workers are saying and there is zero privacy.  Which means you really get to know people quite quickly.  But soon I will be moving over to join my new team, most likely after my vacation.  I am glad we got to all get together before I move.  Granted, we will still work on the same floor, I will just be in a different area.  So in the grand scheme of things, it's really not that big of a deal.  It's a big change for me as I am joining a group of 3 men that have worked together for YEARS and have never had a female in their group...  and I know I won't really 'click' as well with this group, but I am going to make the most of it and in the immortal words of Tim Gunn, "make it work."

I hope you all have a great weekend!  I am staying home for a change which I am really happy about!  I need to get a packing list together for my trip for Amber's wedding as I will probably arrive home from the lake the morning of the day I fly out - so I need to be very organized!!  Besides that, I will do a long run with my group and get together with a friend I haven't seen in nearly a year!!

What are you up to this weekend?  Do you have a holiday party at work?

Glad to hear your "Christmas Party" was a success! Also glad to hear your attitude about the big move at work. I pray it all works out for the best! Have a fun weekend. It's good to stay home and regroup sometimes and you do have a lot coming up! July is going to fly by!

That sounds like a really fun Christmas Party at your building. Perfect set-up to keep everyone happy! And your weekend sounds quite nice, too. This weekend, we have soccer and music classes for Gavin, a condo association meeting and plans to go to a splash park with friends. The weather is going to be perfect, so I'm excited to spend some time outside.

I'm glad your Christmas party was a success :) I do have a holiday party at work and then usually another one in June for the end of the year. Both are very informal.

I understand how you feel about changing within the company and moving where you sit all day. I had to say goodbye to many people at work this year and it was very hard. I would feel similar if someone switched grade levels on my team, they'd still be in the same school but iwouldnt be working with them all the time. I hope your new team ends up happy to welcome a girl to the mix :)

That's a really neat idea to hold the Holiday party a time away from the holidays! There is just too much going on that time of year! Sounds like it was a success!!

That is sad to be leaving your current colleagues. It will be difficult mend in with a new group. I think it will go well for you, though! Sometimes men can be easier to work with.

We don't have a holiday party at my work - due to the weird work schedules.

So glad that your BBQ went well and you sound like you really enjoyed yourself :) We had a work BBQ last night as well. Sometimes it's just nice to kick back and relax with your co-workers instead of being all about work.

Have a great weekend!

I love the idea of Christmas in the summer! Plus people are much less busy, I'm sure, than they are right before the holiday. Sigh, as far as change with your work sitch, I hope things go as smoothly as possible for you. You're such a hard worker that your coworkers will recognize that and respect it, and it'll probably be easier to fit in than you think it will :)

So glad you had such a fun time! I love the deck/grilling/pool area in your condo building!

My old office rarely had a Christmas party because it was such a small office and everyone was so busy. I heard the party at my new organization is quite the event though so I'm looking forward to that this year!

Sounds like you're going to have an awesome weekend! I like the idea of having your holiday party in June because you guys didn't have time around Christmas. What a fun way to celebrate! :D

we did and i did not go. my program is houseed in a building that is also a daycare and i am not close / do not associate with anyone besides my assistant/boss and the other preschool teacher. it just didn't seem right, plus i hate socializing with work people that i dont talk to. ;)

I am jealous of your Christmas in June. It's nice to mark landmarks in relationships though, for work or in life.

This weekend has been a quiet one, but next weekend had a wedding and Dave's birthday in it.

It sounds like a great time was had by all! And snapping pictures of the food might have been a bit weird in that context, but it sounds like it was a delicious spread.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that the work move goes a lot better than you are anticipating.

We don't normally have a big holiday party, but our boss does normally take our department out for dinner. Except that never happened this year, so coincidentally our "holiday dinner" was this past week as well!

Oh I am so glad that it went well! I love the idea of Christmas in June, even if you aren't busy during the holidays (but who isn't really!?)

It will probably take a while to get settled into your new group, but maybe it won't be as bad as you think? (hopefully!)

I take photos of everything. I don't tell people I have a blog; they just think I am a weirdo. :)
