10 Days of Thanksgiving: Day 3

Today I am thankful for the library.

I mentioned my love of the library in one of my mid-month money manifesto posts, but it warrants a mention in this post series, too. Having access to a wonderful library has made it easy to stick to my commitment to not buy any books in 2012. Yes, there were times I couldn't read a book club book as there was a 1,000+ wait for a book, but besides that the library has been a godsend to me! I especially love checking out e-books. Even though the library is just a short detour on my walk home, I still appreciate not having to go there to pick up or drop off books.

There are so many that services that the library provides, so I know I am just experiencing the tip of the iceberg. For example, I would like to take advantage to the free museum passes that are available through the library.

Here is hoping that local libraries continue to be well-funded as I think they are SUCH an important resource!!

What are you thankful for today?

I'm going to second this and say I'm sooo thankful for the library too! I use it all the time and am definitely there at least twice a week! Another thing you should check out (other than the museum passes, which are AWESOME) is getting music and audiobooks from the library!

Yes. I feel like for awhile the library was almost a lost art - but now when I go in I feel like it's re-surging. It was such a big part of my childhood and I love that people can learn and enjoy reading and so many other things at once while they're there!

I am thankful that my boyfriend drives home today. He was in Minneapolis for the weekend to see Bruce Springsteen for a bachelor party. It was a 12 hour drive. They drive home today, so I will get to see him tomorrow, and I'm excited!

You are so lucky to live near a library! I love the idea of e-books!

I'm so excited because I finally got to pick up Gone Girl from the library late last week. Libraries are the best!

I think that's so great that you take advantage of your library. I definitely support our libraries and want them to stay open, but we haven't used them nearly enough (at all - gasp!). I think as Gavin gets older, we will definitely use them more ... ours provide free museum passes, too, which is such a neat opportunity for city residents!

I love, love, love the library! I don't use it as much now that I have a Kindle, except for requesting digital books, but it was such a lifesaver for me growing up. Libraries are special places. :)

I LOVE the library, but since working in a bookstore I don't find much use for it (as they have a book loan system and a great employee discount)... so I am definitely grateful for THAT! :)

Just another reminder that I need to get a library card!!! I keep saying I'm going to do it....but I haven't yet in the 1.5 years I've been back in Oregon. MUST DO!

So neat that they have free museum passes through your library! I love my library as you know. The author speaker series, the book clubs, the journal groups, the other services they provide. On top of all of that, they are such a great group of ladies and gentlemen, too. I haven't found a ton of ebooks i like (yet) but it's great to know it's an option for me.

Yeah for libraries! I seriously consider my library card one of my most prized posessions.

I could not agree more about the library, I LOVE IT. I go at least once a week to get books for the kiddos and I don't know how I would teach without it. I also use the library for ebooks as well, I've bought very few books this year... I can't even remember the last time I bought a book really!

I loved my library growing up. Technically, I had four. The town library, the elementary school library, the middle school library, and then the high school library. I didn't use the library much in college. College libraries are different. They're not as intimate as public libraries or even public school libraries. I'm going to make it one of my 2013 goals to use the library more next year.

YUP! I think you know my take on the library... it has been my best friend for a long time! My library doesn't have as long a wait as yours does, but I also don't always get new books. It's fun to finally read some of the books that have been on my to read list for years! *ps Hurray for no book buying!

Seriously, I went to the library a few weeks ago and was like "I should study here more often!" But the whole parking thing is a hassle so I tend to just study at home. Love the library and access to free books.

I love the library... especially since I got an e-reader, I have been checking out books on a regular basis again. It's so easy and convenient!

I've been using the library A LOT more the last few months as well. helps that I work downtown now so it's easier to walk there on my lunch or when I need some fresh air from work :) I know that I CAN borrow e-books from my library, I just haven't figured out how yet!

I agree! I live exactly 1.34 miles from my library (it's also on my running trail) and I use it so often! I just can't reason buying a book, because I'm not an avid enough reader to ever read it twice! Plus, I ditch books half way into them if I'm bored.

Still need to figure out how to get library books off my Kindle. My Kindle is a really old model, though, so who knows.....

(Sorry I'm bombarding your email account with comments here. I'm playing "catch up")
