Confessions...

Well hello, Wednesday.  This is my first full week of working in the office in weeks but the week is going by surprisingly fast - which is good as I am already so ready (and excited for) the weekend!

I haven't done a confessions post in awhile so thought it would be a good way to share some of the miscellany that is floating around in my head.

These are my confessions...

- when stranger ask me where I am from/live (when on a plane, for example), I usually say Minneapolis.  I will sometimes follow it up by saying that I currently live in Charlotte.  I just don't identify with this area of the country at all so just pretend I still live in Minneapolis when people ask.

- I also can't bring myself to say that Charlotte is 'home'.  If I am going to be in Charlotte for the weekend I will say "I am going to stay in Charlotte this weekend."  I won't say "I am going to stay home this weekend" because Charlotte so does not equal home for me.  Home is Minneapolis or my parents' lake cabin.  I know that these first two confessions probably make it sound like I am not working on achieving acceptance like I discussed last week, but I can accept living her and still think of it as a temporary stopover.

- I only clean my apartment every 4-6 weeks (my mom and sister are probably cringing as they read this, their houses are immaculate).  I tidy up 2-3 times/week and clean my bathroom and wipe down kitchen counters weekly, but I am around so little, it's not worth it to dust/vacuum/scrub floors more often than that.  I used a cleaning service when I lived in Minneapolis but can't justify the cost down here as I am around so little and would rather put that money in my plane ticket budget.  You know, since I seem to buy 1-2 tickets/month.

- I can not relate to people who say they don't read because it's boring.  I just feel like there are so many different genres out there that there has to be something for everyone!

- I get a little bit annoyed with the concept of 'cold' down here in the southern region.  I was saying how I enjoyed the 65 degree temps in Ohio this past weekend and a colleague said - 'oh burr, 65 is so cold!'.  This resulted in a blank, confused stare on my part.  I can't imagine how 65 and burr can be used in the same sentence.  That's like me saying "oh my gosh, 85 degrees is SO HOT."

- I know I have said this before, but I still can't believe that people still smoke knowing what we know about how bad it is for you.  I get that it's an addiction, but it's such a gross habit.  My list of dating deal-breakers has changed over the years, but one thing that remains the same is that I would never date a smoker.  Never.

- I get way more excited about the recent first class upgrades I've had than I probably should.  It's not even about the snacks or free alcohol (which I can't partake in anyways due to my RA med), it's honestly the leg room and the high likelihood that my seatmate will not utter a word to me on a flight.  And those 2 things are priceless for a tallish, non-chatting traveler like me.

Do you have any confessions to share?

Lol... so I thought of you last night. Caroline and I went swimming at our pond, and we met my friend there. When we arrived, she was chatting with some lady about wetsuits. Then another lady came up and was asking us a million questions about our wetsuits and NOT LEAVING lol. In my head I was like okay, I'm done with this conversation, go away. Then Caroline was like "what is HAPPENING right now" with an also annoyed look. I was like hahaha, we hate stranger conversations.
I've never gone first class so I can't say much about that, but I usually don't drink on planes anyway so I think for me I would like my seatmate not talking to me and the extra space! I wonder if I would like the flight attendants bugging me a lot though haha, probably not!
Also, worth noting... it was 64 last night and I went swimming outside. Charlotte people might cry haha.

Ohhh my goal is to fly first class one day!

Ugh, smoking - I'm with you.

And 65 degrees is cold? No, it's PERFECT is what it is!

My confession today: I just bought a Kate Spade wallet (don't worry Ben okay'ed it, lol) because it's something I've been wanting for awhile and it was 75% off!

I also just had a cupcake for breakfast. Yum!

There is nothing wrong with your temporary mindset about Charlotte. You don't have to like it and you don't have to stay there.

I took me years to say "I'm from AZ." In fact, this temporary move to TX is the 1st time I've told people "I'm from AZ". But it's funny b/c their next question is usually "You accent doesn't sound like it...". Then I have to explain I was born in ND. The midwest will always be "home" for me though.

I agree with smoking. I say that a lot. It stuns me when I meet someone who seems completely normal that smokes. I guess I associate smoking @ a young age with trash. Why do people in our generation start?!?!

My confession is that I am so sick of Texas at this point that I am starting to feel anxious. Like, every hour spent in this place seems more and more like prison. I hate this hotel room above all.

I would never date someone who smokes. Could not would not. I can't believe people our age still do that?!

I am 100% with you on the smoking thing. I saw a pregnant lady smoking last week. Like visibly pregnant. I really wanted to honk at her. So ridiculous.

My confession for the day: I had two Oreos before dinner last night.

Smoking ALWAYS remained a deal breaker for me, too. And, the older I get, the less accepting I am of smokers - I will cough and frantically wave my hands in front of my face to clear the air (and I really don't care if the smoker hears/see me and also don't care how they react!).

As you know, Sweets is super tall and has leg cramping issues on planes. One thing we used to do (before Gavin) was go up to the counter at the gate and request an exit row. I don't think we were ever denied the request.

My confession: I feel like poop today and might need to take a nap.

I confess I'm that chatty traveler. Unless you're giving the leave me alone vibe or the I'm drunk and creepy vibe.

"Home" is always where your heart is! And don't feel bad about not cleaning your apartment! When you live alone you don't generate much dirt and you're the only one who sees it so I would do the same! It's amazing how two people can make a mess, though! Hmmm, wonder who the mess maker is?
The lady who owns the business next to us, would come outside every day and smoke while she was pregnant! It bothered me so much, and I wasn't the only one! I hope her baby is okay! Isn't it sad that people find reading "boring"? They must not have been read to as a child. I confess that I feel bad that I don't have more time to just sit and read! I yearn to take a "reading vacation" and try to get caught up with all the books I have on my shelf that are not read yet! I guess my confession would be that I don't "make time" to read more!

I would love to get a first-class upgrade. Heck, I'd be happy to fly somewhere. I haven't been on a plane in 2 years.

I'm with you on the smoking, why do people still do this?!?!? Gross.

And I agree, 65 is amazing. I wish it were always that temp.

Hahaha... I am totally that annoying Southerner who thinks 65 is cold. Well, not 65 and sunny... that's pretty nice, but 65 and windy or when it's nighttime, a mite chilly! We have thin blood down here! Haha... we're not used to actually cold weather. It's actually been in the high 70s in the mornings lately and that feels HEAVENLY for me. Ha. Sorry. :)

Also, I do NOT understand people who smoke. EVER EVER EVER. My 18-year-old cousin actually smokes! I'm like WHAT?! First of all, her dad smokes and has SO many health problems because of it and secondly, it's just stupid because we know all the health risks. So, so, so stupid. I would NEVER date a smoker. Ick. No way!

As a fellow MN girl, I always have to laugh at everyone freezing when it's below 70 degrees. I also still think of MN as my home and it always will be! :-)

I've never done first class until coming home from France the first time and got an upgrade. Oh, how spoiled I felt!

I get that same "huh?" about temperature And as Stephany said, that smoking thing makes me CRAZY!

Love reading the confessions!! People always comment on how cold Canada must be ... yes, in my province it can be freeing, but we also get really hot weather. Both extremes I suppose.

Caroline said...

haha I second Kelly's comment! I was just not having the random stranger conversation. I just wanted to swim and get out of there so that I could eat dinner!

Ditto on the smoking thing AND on the cleaning thing. I know I should clean more (and sometimes I wish I did) but we are busy people. Also, something that I've really started thinking about lately (like last night for example) is: 'is it more important for me to do these dishes, or to spend the last 20 minutes before bed on the couch with Eric, reading while he watches TV' - spending time with Eric won. The dishes can wait! Two years ago the dishes would have won but I've really reorganized my priorities around how important a clean house is lately. I mean obviously for hygienic reasons it's important, but a small mess never hurt anyone!!

Smoking is so freaking disgusting. I hate when my students come in REAKING of smoke. So gross. And umm hello thanks for helping put your kids at risk for asthma, bronchitis and all kinds of things. And my floors rarely get scrubbed and only my living room and dining room get vacuumed religiously. Every thing else is as needed basis.

I still don't know what to say when people ask where I'm from, and this is after 7 years. If I'm in Louisiana and someone asks, the easy answer if California. But if I'm traveling and someone asks where I'm from I never know what to say. I guess it should be Louisiana especially since I don't see myself moving back to California, but it still doesn't feel right...

I am laughing at all the comments that your smoking comment brought on! I agree with most of the comments in the fact that I don't know why people in our generation or below even start! Is it considered "cool"? I mean, I can see how people in our parent's or grandparent's generation did it; it was newer and there was not all the research regarding health yet (plus, didn't they look so suave in their fancy outfits with their cigarettes?) But now? With all the scientific backing about the health risks? Why!?

My confession is that when people who don't know me (on the plane) ask me where I am from, I gesture frantically to my headphones and book and put a "don't bother me" look on my face. I hate it when seatmates strike up conversations on the plane! (and yes, First class is way better for avoiding that, for sure!)
