A Perfect Summer Weekend

July was an awesome month, but it felt BUSY.  Now don't get me wrong, I love having a busy, full life but after several weekends of non-stop activity, I needed a slower paced weekend.  Which is exactly how this weekend ended up being!

Even though I worked on Friday, it almost felt like my weekend started on Thursday.  It was a beautiful evening, so Phil came over for a run after work and then I used some zucchini that I had bought at the farmer's market the previous weekend to make sausage-stuffed zucchini boats.  If you have some bigger zucchini on hand, I highly recommend this recipe.

On Friday night, Phil and I were planning to get take-out and lay low but at the last minute one of his friends invited us over for dinner.  They grilled, and we brought dessert and bean bag toss along with us.  It was a really fun night.  Phil lives pretty close to his 3 closest friends from college, so these impromptu get-togethers happen frequently, which is fun.

On Saturday morning, I was up bright and early for my run.  I was planning to run 12.5 miles but it turned out a road we were planning to take was closed so I decided to do the 15 mile route that most of the club was running.  I had ran 13.5 miles the week before so figured it was an OK distance increase.  I am glad I brought this gu along as I definitely needed it.  This was a new-to-me flavor and I liked it!  I think it is random that there is a yeti on the packaging.  It reminded me of the yeti in the Saks 5th Avenue Christmas window display that I saw when I visited Alli last December!

The run went OK, but the last couple of miles were a bit of a struggle for me.  It was hot and we had to run through downtown and I was just ready to be done.   Our coach had 2 different water stops set up for us, which was very nice as it was a really warm, humid day.  I was so happy when the run was over!

Saturday afternoon was spent grocery shopping, meal planning, and most importantly, relaxing!  I sat on my patio and read for several hours.  I heart my patio SO much.  The view just can't be beat!

Phil had a bachelor party on Saturday night, so I was on my own for the evening.  I spent the evening going to mass, making dinner, and doing more reading.  Maybe I will actually read more than 3 books this month!

Waking up without an alarm on Sunday morning was fabulous.  It's the only day of the week that can happen so I savor those days.  I started off my day by donning some bright capris and going to a yoga class at a local studio.  After my 15 mile run the previous day, I was in need of some serious stretching.

After yoga, Phil came over and we walked across the river to brunch.  It was a beautiful day and the view along the walk is so pretty.  Have I mentioned how much I love my neighborhood?

After brunch we hung by the pool for a bit and played some cribbage, which is our favorite game.  Then he went home to do yard work and I met up with my two best local friends for an evening of girl time. We did a little window shopping and had dinner at a Mexican restaurants.  It was so great to spend an evening catching up.  I was home just after 7 so had a little bit of time to relax before heading to bed.  I've got a busy week ahead of me so am glad this weekend was more relaxing!

What was the highlight of your weekend?

What a great weekend! And that view - can't beat it!

My weekend was insane - I drove to two different places (each half an hour or more one way) to pick up furniture, I baked 8 loaves of zucchini bread and a coffee cake in less than 72 hours, planned our meals for the week, went to the grocery store, and made dinner both nights because Ben was working. And of course, did some more unpacking.

Um yes, there will be Starbucks this morning.

Sounds like a perfect weekend! Glad you got some down time to relax so you can be ready for next weekend!
We had a great weekend, too, and feel pretty well prepared and so excited to have all five of my kids and their families and most of my siblings and some of their families gathering at our lake place!

Your patio views are incredible!! That was still a busy weekend! But I'm so glad you got to relax - that is so important.

Way to go on the 15 miler! You may as well just do a full at the rate you're going ;) I LOVE those pink capris! I remember when you bought them and were sending me photos. Lol so fun!

The highlight of our weekend was Friday night, watching the girls freak out over the fact that we took them to Chuck E. Cheese for their last night/hurrah with us.

The rest of the weekend was spent adjusting to the quiet in the house, loads and loads of laundry, grocery shopping, working out and getting in some sleep and relaxing.

That sounds like a super fun weekend, and I'm glad you were able to sneak some downtime in the midst of it. Your view from your patio is incredible. I'd want to be out there all the time!

The highlight of my weekend was welcoming my mom + her fiance back home. They'd been traveling for the past 8 days, so it was nice to have them home!

I love your pink capris! So fun! Nice job on your 15 mile run, I'm so impressed with how far you've come in the last couple months. My weekend was not too relaxing; I had a funeral on Saturday that ate up most of the day, a 10 mile race + 6 miles yesterday to get me to 16 miles, and a trip to a local farm to get ice cream with my grandma for her birthday.

Wow, that's a lot of fun (and a lot of Phil!) for one weekend. Very cool.

We went to Asheville this weekend. Well, actually Maggie Valley, just west of Asheville. it was awesome.

That seriously sounds like my ideal weekend! Such a good mix of social time, relaxing time, being active and being productive! I haven't had a weekend like that in quite awhile, but that's ok because I plan to have many like that come the fall!

I think Christopher and I would love those zucchini boats.

That's wonderful that you love your neighborhood!! I've always loved mine, but it's become so much better now that so many small businesses are opening up within walking distance. It's becoming a lot more vibrant.

The highlight of my weekend was a get together at our place with family.

The sausage zucchini boats look so good! I am all over that! Also I love your yoga trousers! Cheery!

I was working at the weekend, so yesterday and today are mine. Our wedding anniversary was yesterday, and Dave has had both days off. My favourite bit is now - I'm watching telly with a cup of tea, Dave is playing piano. Perfectly relaxed!

Yum! I love zucchini boats, although we call them Stuffed Zucchini. I am growing them this year and they are HUGE. They would be a perfect vessel for some sausage! Thanks for the idea. I also love to do the same thing with bell peppers.

My weekend was an interesting one. I went camping with the brother's GF's family and they were all upset at each other for some reason and it made for a bit of a tense weekend, although I did not care, as I was in the woods and in the sun and near the river!
