Currently: August Edition

Whoa - August is 2/3 of the way over!  Didn't the month just start like yesterday?  Here's what's currently happening in my life/on my mind these days...

Reading: The Pearl that Broke Its Shell.  I am really enjoy this book, but I'm progressing through it so slowly because I am just so tired by the end of the day that I usually can only read for 20 minutes and I haven't made as much time for reading on the weekend lately.

Loving: the weather we've had lately.  It's been warm, sunny and not as humid as it normally is in August.  I have barely ran my air conditioner this summer as I get such a nice breeze off the river!

Thinking:  about rehiring the cleaning service that I used to use before I moved to Charlotte. Part of me feels guilty for hiring a cleaning service as I feel like I should have time/make time to clean but the reality is that I am just not home all that often, and when I am home I don't want to spend time cleaning.

Frustrated: every time I look at the comps for other condos in the area where I own a condo (which I rent out).  I know short sales and foreclosures are necessary for some people but it really sucks when all the comps in your neighborhood are distressed sales.  I feel like I am never going to be able to sell that dang condo.

Feeling: like my body has adjusted to getting less sleep on week nights as I no longer feel a wave of exhaustion in the afternoon like I did earlier this summer.  I can't really sleep past 4-4:30 on week days but my I'm accepting that my body just won't let me sleep later than that.

Anticipating:  the wedding that Phil and I will be attending at the end of the month.  The person getting married is one of his college friends so we'll know lots of other people there.  Similar to Amber's wedding in July, this wedding is also located on a farm.

Watching:  very little TV these days because we finished House of Cards and the Next Food Network Star concluded earlier this month.

Sad:  that the days are getting shorter so quickly.  It used to be light out when I got up in the morning to workout, now it doesn't start to get light out until I am half way done getting ready after my workout.  I'm trying to appreciate the fact that it's light out when I leave for work as I know that soon enough that will not be the case.

Working:  on rebuilding some of the presentations that I made at my old job.  I forgot how much work it is to start from scratch and build presentations.  I have a big client meeting at the end of September, though, so at least I have something to motivate me to get it done.

Grateful:  that I have been able to log so many miles this summer and that between run club and Phil, I rarely have to run alone.  I definitely have come to prefer running with others!

Listening: to more country music than I usually do.  There is something about summer that puts me more in the mood for country!

Wishing: that I had less hours in my work week and more hours in my week nights/weekends.

What are you currently reading, grateful for and wishing for?

I know how you feel with your condo. Our flat is currently worth 10-15k less than what our mortgage is, and we haven't paid that much off. We'd really like to move, but it won't happen till we can afford to absorb the loss, which we can't at the moment.

Reading 'in Times of Fading Light' and 'The Bookstore'. Both good!

Grateful for - pretty much everything in my life!

Wishing for - my cold to go away, but nothing else!

It SUCKS that you can't sleep later than 4-4:30, but I guess good that your body is adjusting?

I just finished a romance novel set in the atmosphere of an animal clinic and it made me want ALL the animals!

I'm grateful for patient friends and a husband who CRACKS ME UP, and I'm wishing for the next few weeks to speed by!

Yay for your country music :)
Not being able to sleep past 4-4:30 is just really annoying. No wonder you are tired at night! I am also so not excited for the days to get shorter and shorter. I've already noticed a big difference this summer. I wish June days could last all year. Is that too much to ask?

Also... get the cleaning service!

I'm having the same problem you are - a stack of books, and I keep falling asleep over Mrs. Dalloway! And I am actually really enjoying it, just - so sleepy. I can't stay awake.

Ugh I feel the same way about this month flying by! Life has been so crazy the last few weeks and the days are fleeting. I'm reading Ship of Brides by Jojo Moyes, grateful for kitty snuggles at the end of a long crappy day, and wishing life would calm down a bit so I can enjoy what's left of summer!

I, too, wish there were more hours in the evenings & weekends. So much to do and enjoy and so little time to do it! Good luck on the presentation preparation! Enjoy the weather as we know it won't last, but I do love fall.

Currently reading: The Quilter's Apprentice. It's a good read and is by the lady who wrote Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker!

Grateful for: the past weekend I had with close friends and family. Was good for my soul, even if it was bittersweet.

Wishing for: I'm with you, less time during the work week, more time at play!

I loved The Pearl That Broke its Shell. I just finished the new JK Rowling (aka Robert Gailbrath) book yesterday and started The Magicians Land which is the final book in a series that I've read.

Grateful for Chris and my amazing friends.

Wishing that the days would stay warm and long and that I could have a 4 day work week all year round.

And Kelly is right, get the cleaning service!

Awww, I love this post. So full of good things and accepting the things you just can't change. Talk about trying to figure out ways to work less each week is similar to what I've been contemplating: when Gavin starts school and has summers off, can I work from Cape Cod for the summer while Gavin goes to camp there??? A pipe dream for now...

I am SO not looking forward to the days getting shorter. I like the sun staying out until 8:30pm! It's always dark when I wake up no matter what time I get up, so, that, I can take or leave. But not my glorious evenings! Bah.

Currently reading a cute chick-lit novel (Just One of the Guys by Kristan Higgins - one of my fave authors!)

Currently grateful for an awesome one-year review at work (and a billion times less stressful than my reviews at my old marketing job!)

Currently wishing for the next few weeks to fly by quickly!

I'm not currently reading anything but I picked up The Dressmaker and Carry on, Warrior at the library last night so anticipate starting one of those soon! I'm grateful for the area that I live in, I did a lot of fun things this summer that made me really appreciate the place that I live and I'm wishing that summer wasn't coming to an end!

Get the cleaning service! I can't believe the month is almost over either! I love all the running you are doing and I am so thankful that you are able to run again, another answered prayer for you my friend. I am reading so much these days but it is quite a bit of heavy reading and not so much light easy reads. I did read a series of 4 books from nora roberts that I loved but that was in July :)

Funny - I listened to more country music last week than I have in the past 5 years. Something about rolling green corn fields makes country music okay in the summertime....

I, too, rarely run alone anymore with all my running friends & Ryan. Today I ran 4 miles after swim practice...and it was kind of nice to just have that time to myself. (as much as a love my running partners!)

The shortening days make me sad too! However, I guess that means cooler days for us - which is a good thing. I know you have the opposite....

I'm the same way with country music in the summer. Did you ever listen to alabama growing up? Oh my gosh they were my favorite!!

Are you thinking about putting your condo on the market? Hopefully things turn around in the area if you are going to

Reading - In the middle of three books - none that really grabbed my interest.

Grateful for - A wonderful trip to Montreal, that was a really easy traveling experience.

Wishing for - My holidays not to be over. I know I cannot complain, but I have to go back to work tomorrow after having the summer off, and it's tough.

I agree that it sucks that the days are getting shorter. Worst part of fall/winter are the shorter days.

A wedding on a farm sounds really fun!

HIRE THE CLEANERS! Why spend your time with that if you can afford not to?

Reading -- well, just finished Jen Lancaster's uproariously hilarious "The Tao of Martha." Highly recommended.

Grateful -- for being able to have spent time with my family on my recent road trip.

Wishing -- Summer would last a little longer!

I got the book from the library but I sadly had to return it before I could even read it! Ughhh.. So that stinks!
