San Francisco Trip: Part 3

Now for my 3rd and final installment of my San Francisco trip recap!  After the race on Saturday, Kyria took us to a great local breakfast place in the Berkeley area.  It was awesome to have Kyria as our hometown host because she had great restaurant recommendations and it was so nice to have a local with us as she knows the Bay Area so well!  Anyways, after over 3 hours of running, I was starving, so I was definitely in the clean plate club.

Mmm, the asparagus in my eggs was so good!
After brunch, Kyria brought us back into the city.  We got cleaned up and took a walk to see the "Painted Ladies" which were about 1.5 miles from our apartment.  I love the architecture of the homes in San Francisco!

Not the best picture or lighting so trust me when I say these homes are cool/pretty!
Kyria came back into the city to spend the night with us.  The Mission District is known for its burritos, so we HAD to go to a taqueria.  I can't have burritos since I can't have flour tortillas due to my gluten intolerance, so instead I had 3 tacos on corn tortillas.  They were ah-mazing.  This was probably my favorite meal of the weekend - and the cheapest!

I had 1 carne asada and 2 carnitas tacos.  Next time I would get 2 as 3 was TOO much food!
After our big Mexican dinner, we took a walk to a local ice cream place.  Like my grandpa Rudy would say - there is always room for ice cream!  So despite the fact that we were all stuffed, all of us except Leigh made room for some ice cream.  I got 2 small scoops of Mexican chocolate and a chocolate ice cream with caramel pieces in it.  Yum!

We were up early on Sunday morning so we could fit in one last adventure - biking across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito - before Lauren flew back home on Sunday afternoon.   We picked up our bikes at a sports store close to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Leigh was 24 weeks pregnant on this trip but you wouldn't have guessed it!  I was impressed by her energy levels and ability to keep up with our go go go schedule!

It was a beautiful morning for a bike ride.  We took a quick detour before crossing the bridge to snap some photos!

Amber, Kyria, Lauren and Leigh
The views on the bike ride were beautiful!  I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone visiting San Francisco.  The bike ride was about 6 miles total and it probably took us about 90 minutes when you factor in time for taking photos, etc.

When we got to Sausalito, we went to a great brunch place.  It was SO good and I was once again in the clean plate club!

We took the ferry ride back to San Francisco, said good bye to Lauren and biked over to the Ferry Building.  Then Amber, Leigh and I said good bye to Kyria and biked back to the bike rental place.  We were pretty tired out after this so spent some downtime in our apartment before heading to the North Beach area for dinner.  We went to a cute Italian restaurant and treated ourselves to gelato afterwards.

On Monday morning we woke up without an alarm which was awesome, and went to a breakfast place that had gluten free pancakes (I was craving pancakes which is random as I usually don't eat that kind of breakfast food).  We walked around the Noe Valley and Castro areas.  As usual, it was a very hilly walk!

Amber at the top of one of the hills we climbed!
As usual, there were lots of neat houses to look at!

We snapped once last selfie in Dolores Park and then it was time to head back to the apartment to grab our bags so Amber and Leigh could head to the airport.

I was so sad to say good bye to Amber and Leigh (and to Lauren and Kyria on Sunday) - our running trips always seem to go way too fast. But I feel lucky that we've been able to keep up our tradition of these running meet-ups.  I definitely value the friendships I have with these girls and look forward to future meet-ups!  I wonder where our running adventures will take us next?

So...  what city/area of North America should we hit up next?  So far we've visited Portland, Victoria, BC, Chicago, and San Francisco!

Yum, so many delicious meals. I LOVE traveling with a local, I feel like I go to way better restaurants and even tourist spots.

I think a trip to Boston is in order! I've been to SF twice and biking over the bridge was a highlight both times!

Looks like y'all definitely took advantage of all the fun things to see and do! And the bike tour idea is brilliant. I'm definitely going to do that next time I'm in the Bay Area.

It was honestly such a great trip! Though I think I might need to go back just for those potatoes! So good. Fingers crossed I can come next year :)

Sounds like you had a fabulous trip - what an adventure! Seems to me that y'all need to hit up the SOUTH if you're looking for an area unlike the others you've visited ... maybe Austin on New Orleans or even SAVANNAH (ahhhhh!). But, I think it'd also be interesting to head somewhere like Montana! It's a beautiful state! We sort of fell in love with the feel of Bozeman ... and I can see you having a very different sort of trip there (less urban, more outdoorsy).

We really do need to start thinking about our next trip! I love our girls running weekends. Such an awesome tradition. I'm so glad we started it and kept it going over the years.

Come to the east coast!

I love all the food pictures! SF looks like such a fun, fun city to visit. It's definitely on my bucket list.

Clearly it's past time for some Northeast running! Clearly I vote New York, which is a great running city and has some sort of marathon/half-marathon/10k/triathlon going on. Also, you can probably find one or two things to do here where you're not running and I know a local who would be happy to show you guys around (though you've been here enough to do that on your own). You could also consider Boston or Philadelphia.

I love your photo of the painted ladies, and the one of the bridge is fantastic. It looks like you had so much fun.

Montreal is such a fun city to visit (and live!) But I'm a tad biased since I did live there for 10 years...plus you get the whole Quebecois/French thing....

Looks like such a fun trip! I think it's so neat you have such a great tradition going!

All the food you had looks amazing. I told Ryan about the Mission burritos (from your and Ambers blog) and he was super disappointed that we didn't make a stop. Ryan is a huge burrito fan...(I think I would have gone for the tacos.)

The Painted Ladies are so neat! That was probably my favorite thing about San Fran: the architecture! I felt as though I could just gaze at it endlessly!! So neat.

I think you ladies should make your next trip somewhere on the coast! Perhaps somewhere like Portland, Maine in the fall? Or Boston?

It looks like you guys had such a fun trip!! I am of the opinion that every time I'm back in California I need to have Mexican food, so I'm glad to see you made that happen.

As for your next trip, well maybe in Louisiana? hint, hint! But I think going down to Disney World like others have mentioned would be a blast.

I totally lost my first comment. Well, it was 2) your posts made me homesick for my beloved Bay Area. So glad you had a good visit! And 2) I cast my vote for Nashville. Obviously :)

Ha. And obviously that should be 1)
Oh my!

Oh Lisa, I'm amazed you didn't totally crash after all that! What fun - and not a lot of down time, which is always a good thing when not traveling! Looks like you found great GF, too!

I've heard Santa Fe is terrific -- that's on my list. Boston/New England is fabulous. Too many places, too little time!

That's good that you got to have some gluten-free pancakes :-) Sounds like all the food in San Fran was great!

You should hit up NY next!!!

I do so love the purple house! I'm delighted y'all had such a fantastic trip!!! There are so many awesome marathons y'all have lots to choose from! Maybe Vegas, or TX or DC or one of the races at the SC or NC coast? I know the next one y'all will have just as much fun! All of your food looked awesome! I love Mexican so much!

Ah...your recap brings back fond memories of food and fun times!

I vote for somewhere in the Wyoming/Idaho/Colorado area for the next race. I know you are not as fond of trail races, but even if we did a road race, we would also have options for hiking on our off days!
