My Week in Photos

Last week was a fun-filled week that was jam-packed with social events and Halloween festivities.  It's a week best told about using photos.

We started off the week on Monday with beautiful, 60 degree weather.  I took advantage of the weather and went for a 5 mile run.  I am pretty sure that is the last time I will be able to run in a t-shirt in 2014.

On Tuesday, Phil and I hosted a pumpkin carving night at his place.  The aps I made (bean & corn salsa, cheese dip, and an apple dip) were a hit, the desserts (apple crisp and pumpkin soft serve) were sort of flops.  It was a fun night and I think our pumpkin turned out great!  I took care of the scooping of the guts and Phil carved, with the aid of a stencil.

My cat lover, the cat he pet sits for, and our pumpkin
Everyone's pumpkins turned out great!  I love how different they all are.

It was a busy week, but I fit in reading and relaxing when I could.  Ted is good at keeping me company when I read.

On Friday, the weather really changed.  As you can see below, it felt like 19 degrees when I biked to work that morning.  Burr.  I can't complain as it could be much colder and we could have snow but the weather just changed so fast!  But at least it will be in the 50s this week.

On Friday night we went to a murder mystery party but I have no photos to share unfortunately.  It was really fun to do something different.  I played the part of an attorney and Phil was the pool boy.  Neither of us guessed correctly who the murderer was but it was a pretty confusing case!

On Saturday morning I couldn't talk myself into running in 25 degree temps (I am a wimp, I recognize this) so instead I ran 2 miles on the dreadmill and did this Peanut Butter Runner workout.

I went down and up the ladder (i.e. decreased from 10 reps down to 1, increased from 1 rep up to 10).  I was a hot sweaty mess at the end and feel like I maybe worked off some of the Halloween candy I consumed the night before.

That afternoon, I made curried carrot soup as I was craving a warm, comforting soup.  I hadn't made it in over 4 years but it's definitely a recipe I will throw back into my regular rotation as it's so simple but healthy and delicious!

On Saturday night we went to a Halloween party that was hosted by Phil's co-worker.  I went with the easiest costume possible and went as a cat.  Phil went as Prince for about the 8th year in a row, I think?  He's making a Zoolander face in this photo. And yes, he borrowed a shirt from me for his costume.

On Sunday I attempted to go for a run but felt some pain in my foot so had to turn back.  Hopefully ice and rest will remedy whatever is going on.  :/  But the pain gave me an excuse to take it easy for the day.  The only time I left the house was to vote (Minnesota offers in person absentee voting so I decided to avoid the crowds on Tuesday).

The rest of my day was spent catching up on chores around the house, knitting,

It's cold outside so 'tis the season to knit!
and I capped off my day with a video chat with Nora and a meal of lentil curry which was easy and good!

How was your week?

My favourite picture is the 'I voted' sticker!

Your week is so full! The Pumpkins are amazing. In Scotland pumpkins are a recent import, so I grew up carving turnips (swede). Your blanket is Lovely! I was also a cat for Halloween!

My week was 3.5 days of work and 3.5 days of family time on the Welsh countryside!

Isn't reading while curled up with a cat the best? Plus they radiate so much heat when it's cold in the winter :) Your murder mystery party sounds like fun! I hope your foot is feeling better and that the pain you felt was just a fluke thing. It's annoying to have to stop but definitely the right thing to do. Lentil curry sounds yummy, especially this time of year!

What is it about cold weather and lentils? I found myself puling a bag out for dinner today. We've been in the 40's for the last few days (seriously, NOLA was colder than Minneapolis this weekend) and that to me is winter weather.

So glad we caught up last night! Did wonders for my soul, as it always does. Look forward to when we chat again =)

Here's hoping this week doesn't bring snow or temps that are too cold for this time of year.

Ooooooh! Looks like you're knitting something beautiful! I need to break out my needles again; it's been too long since I've knit anything.

The costumes are great! That looks like a whole lot of fun. It got really cold here too over the weeekend. I am totally ok with that, it finally feels like november.

Oh, your murder mystery dinner sounds like a blast! I want to do one of those so badly. One day!

What a busy week you had! Those weeks are always fun to have, lots of being social and getting out. :) But I imagine you want to hibernate for most of November now, ha! Or at least, I would need to!

I was pleasantly surprised today with the 50 temps because I stopped looking at the weather after I saw the snow flurries on Friday!

Hilarious that Phil has dressed up as Prince for another year in a row. I liked your cat costume!! We have always wanted to host a murder mystery party but have never got around to it. Do you need a lot of space?? Hopefully we can make it work one day, I think it sounds like a really fun and original party.

Glad you had such a fun week last week and also fit in some relaxation on Sunday as I know you needed it after your busy month!

That soup sounds great!! I love curried anything.

Haha, Christopher is like Phil in that sense. He's been a skeleton for the past few years in a row. He's not a huge fan of Halloween, but I love it, so we always end up going out.

The pumpkins look great. I hate carving them, and hate scooping out the guts, but love them once they are done.

Love the Halloween photo of you and Phil. We made homemade chicken noodle soup tonight. Was pretty good. Not like my dad's which I LOVE but pretty darn good.It is rainy here and is suppose to rain all the way thru tomorrow night. I am in the best mood ever with this kind of weather. Just the past two days the leaves have all changed now to yellow. Finally, feels like fall this week.
