TGIF

First off, thanks for all of the kind, supportive comments on my post from Wednesday.  It's always a little scary to publish posts like that, but it's so rewarding to read all the thoughtful comments.

I thought I'd close out the week with a little TGIF recap of the week!

The high of my week was booking a trip to Santa Barbara with Phil in February!  I had a companion fare on Delta that I needed to use up so after a lot of discussion about what we wanted out of a getaway and a lot of research about which flights were most reasonably priced, we settled on a long weekend in Santa Barbara over Presidents' Day.  I'm so excited!  It looks like a beautiful area with lots of outdoorsy activities to do.

The low of my week was working 5 full days.  Just kidding (sort of).  I really didn't have any lows this week which is a good thing!

A blog post I loved was Caroline's post about being gutsy.

An article I loved was this article that Amber sent to me that talks about how we date these days and touches on the concept of not comparing our relationships to others.

A podcast episode I loved was all the episodes of the Start-up Podcast that I binge listened to this week.  Nilsa recommended this podcast - it's a step-by-step series about establishing a start-up.  I learned a lot about the start-up process when I getting my MBA but it's one thing to read about Angel investors and venture capital firms in a text book or case study - it's a whole other experience to listen to a first hand account of the process.  This is totally fascinating and I highly recommend it!

For my workouts, I completed a shred workout on Monday, 4 mile dreadmill runs on Tuesday and Thursday, and a shred workout this morning (I'm doing the New Years Shred as I figured it would be good to have some extra motivation as I started the New Year).

The best money I spent was on the plane ticket and deposit on the condo we'll be renting in Santa Barbara!  Eeks, can't wait for that trip!

My plans this weekend include a happy hour tonight with a bunch of people I used to work with at my first job out of college, and then another get together later in the night with some of Phil's friends (so much for saying yes less in the New Year!). Tomorrow I will get to use the cross country skis I bought last week as Courtney and I are going to brave the cold and hit the trails in the afternoon. In the evening we have a birthday bowling get together for a college friend of Phil's. Sunday should be low key as my only plans are a video chat with Nora in the evening.  I intend to do some cooking and then hope to read and relax as much as possible!

What was the best money you spent this past week? Any fun weekend plans?

Woah! Santa Barbara! That's going to be a great trip! I can't wait to see pics from that weekend!

Beginning of this week was fine - I actually don't think I've spent any money this week (on extra stuff, I'm not counting bills, lol), because we are on Operation Save All the Money. I do however think I'm going to make a trip to the yarn store today.

I have always wanted to try cross country skiing (and snowshoeing) but never have. We mostly do downhill skiing here! There is a really cool looking snowshoe area in Yosemite that I would love to try... the hikes are around 10 miles and they have huts where you can stay and they even feed you and send you back on the trail with lunch! One of these days...

The best money I spent this week was...booking a house in Portland for a weekend in March. Some friends and I are running a race up there and we are going to stay a couple extra days for some Portland fun. I love Portland and am excited to see more of it!

Sounds like a great week!! Holy cow you have a busy weekend! My life makes me look kind of hermit when I look at your weekend! Lol.

That is awesome you and Phil are going to Santa Barbara. Ryan used to travel there almost monthly - and would always tell me how beautiful and perfect it is!

I am a little envious you get to cross country ski! I loved doing that when we were in Denver last winter. But on the flip side, I get to hike year round!

Best money I spent this week was on the Red Eye (coffee with 2 shots espresso) yesterday morning, because I got very minimal sleep this week :(. Highlight of my weekend coming up is hiking on Saturday! We have to start training for Hawaii!

Santa Barbara is going to be so much fun for you guys! And working 5 days really was the low of my week, hahah. After being off for two straight weeks, a five-day work week feels neverending!

Oooh, exciting! That will be a nice way to break up the winter months. Ha, I feel you on the 5 full days of work. It's been tough getting back into the routine. I haven't really spent much money this week but my mom and I did go out to buy supplies for a surprise baby shower we are hosting next weekend so that was fun. My plans are pretty low key, I will doing some prep work for the baby shower and Pete's best friend is coming over with his 2 1/2 year old son for pizza Saturday night. We haven't seen his son since he was about 10 months so I'm really excited to spend time with him. Have a good weekend!

Can't believe your weekend away is in a month!! That's going to go by so fast and be such a fun weekend. So excited for you.

I hope you get lots of rest on Sunday!

That's a great week. Santa Barbara is gorgeous. I hope you have a great time!

What kind of cross country skis did you buy (and where)? Prior to this year I hadn't went cross country skiing since middle school -- but now I've been four times and am planning to go again this weekend. I have rented skis through Three Rivers Parks and am just starting to consider buying them. I would love to hear your feedback. :)

I'm so excited about your Santa Barbara trip. You guys will have so much fun. (And yes for breaking up the winter months with that trip!)

Your weekend plans sound perfect! Social time, active time, and relaxing time. A good mix!

I don't think I've spent any money this past week, apart from bills and things! How unusual for me.

Tonight D & I are going to Fleming's steakhouse as a belated birthday celebration for him; we have some gift cards to use there, so I'm excited. Otherwise, not a ton of plans this weekend and I'm a-ok with it. Look forward to chatting this Sunday!

Yay! Vacation! What a fun trip!

Thanks for the podcast recommendation. I'm going to give it a try and have my sister listen, too -- she'll be opening a PT practice sooner than later.

Sounds like a pretty good week with good things to anticipate, too!

Best money this week? I don't really think I spent or ordered anything! How's THAT for a change of pace!

That is so exciting about your trip to Santa Barbara! I cannot wait to hear all about it!

The best money I spent this week was on a purse that I had been wanting for months. I've been tutoring students twice a weekend and saving cash from that, so it felt great to be able to buy something I really wanted!

Working 5 full days this week was a serious bummer, ha ha

(PS. The new verification on your blog is hilarious. I just had to check off all the "cakes"- I thought at first it wanted me to match the cakes and I'm like NONE LOOK THE SAME. This might be because i played a kindergarten game today that involved matching.)

It's so fun to plan a little getaway! That's exciting!
This week seemed to drag for me too. The best money I spent... eh, I think I'm still going to go with buying our first home last week. We have really been keeping it tight on the spending since then! :)

The best money I spent this week was probably on groceries - haha! I didn't buy anything else. This weekend we're going out for dinner for a friend's birthday, and then doing karaoke.

Santa Barbara - that sounds fun!

I honestly didn't really spend money this week. Umm my pizza for lunch on Friday that was delicious? ha.

I went out for dinner and cocktails with two work friend last night. And my best money spent was on new stationery for college. I'm in the last 3 months and I need the encouragement!

I think the best money I spent during this past week was a night out with my best buddy last night...or the foot-long Subway sandwich I picked up midweek :) Ha. But we went and saw Fury last night at this cheap theatre....movie was great and I always enjoy watching war movies with my veteran buddies as then we can truly chat about the various layers presented in the film. Sounds like you had some great plans this weekend and what an awesome vacation you have coming up! It's so nice to have something like that on the horizon :)

I think you'll love Santa Barbara! For years it's where I wanted to go to college, and it was only my senior year of high school where I changed my mind and went to the east coast instead.

As for a restaurant recommendation, I'd try out The Hungry Cat (thehungrycat.com). Although I'm not sure about their gluten-free options. But my parents are huge fans of it and have gone to the Hollywood location so many times that they basically know the owners.

Oh my gosh how exciting about your trip! You didn't tell me you were doing that. But that is awesome. SB was on our baby moon list of places. Def a place I would love to visit. I will be looking forward to hearing all about it.

I loved Santa Barbara when I was out there for my cousin's wedding years ago. It's this mix of being a super high end snobby town mixed with college town mixed with beach town. I'm sure you'll have a great time there!

New episode of StartUp dropped today - it's about burnout - it was a good one to hear.
