Currently: February Edition

Reading:  "Americanah" by Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie. The last time I did a currently post, I was reading a different book by this author, which is kind of random! I am loving "Americanah" - it's about the experience of a woman that moves from Nigeria to the U.S. during college, and then back to Nigeria.

Loving:  the Sorel winter boots that Phil got me for Christmas.  It hasn't been a snowy winter here, but it has been pretty cold so I am glad I have warm, cozy boots to keep my feet warm on my walks to and from work!  Plus, they are really cute!

Thinking:  about chopping my hair off to my shoulders.  I've been growing it out for awhile and while I like the length, I sometimes think it looks a little bit 'blah' so it might be time for a change. My hair appointment isn't until March 31st so I've got some time to think about it!

Frustrated: with how early I wake up during the week. I wish I was a better sleeper.

Feeling:  under the weather as I am coming down with a cold.  I hope it's short lived because I don't have time to feel sick right now as this is a really busy week for me.

Anticipating: spring and longer hours of daylight.  I can't wait for warmer temperatures and more hours of daylight!  This winter hasn't been too bad but it's been so incredibly cold lately and I'm just over that aspect of winter!

Watching:  the next season of House of Cards when it comes out on Friday!  Phil and I watched seasons 1 and 2 last summer so we are excited to check out the 3rd season.

Sad:  that the show Parenthood is over.  I loved that show so much so will really miss watching it.  I thought they did an awesome job with the finale, though.

Working:  on presentations for two conferences I'll be presenting at this spring.  I don't mind public speaking but speaking in front of a group for 60-75 minutes is SO HARD for me, hence the reason I am getting an early start on developing my presentation content.

Grateful:  that my dad's ankle replacement surgery went well on Monday.  He's been hobbling around in pain for years so I am glad he's finally having surgery.  They did one ankle on Monday and will do the other one in 3 months.  I'm excited for him to be able to walk pain free by mid-summer!

Listening:  to lost of podcasts, as usual!  My favorites these days are Dear Sugar, BookRiot, and TED Radio Hour.

Wishing: it was easier to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.  ;)  I'm still wrestling with this question even though I've been working for nearly 12 years.

What are you anticipating, loving, and grateful for?

I wish I knew what I wanted to be when I grow up, too! It's frustrating to not feel fulfilled for the 40+ hours a week we spend at our jobs. Americanah sounds really interested and not something I would normally read. I'm so ready for spring, too. I can't decide if I'm more excited for longer days or warmer days! My mood has perked a bit knowing we are almost to March and have the majority of winter behind us. Hoping your dad recovers well and that your cold turns out to be minor! I am anticipating vacation in April, loving almond butter and chocolate chips for dessert, and grateful for a roof (albeit a leaking one) over my head during this never-ending frigid cold snap we are experiencing.

I notice the days have been getting longer -- earlier sun and later sundown. Works for me. And despite most of my carping about winter, I will say it has been a sunnier one than most, if colder. Those boots are terrific! And, hoping your dad's recovery is a quick one.

Anticipating a gathering with my college roommates, some of whom I've not seen since then! That's this weekend. Loving playing in my paints and glue and grateful that I have the resources to do it!

I'm loving Parenthood too! I'm a season behind but I already don't want it to end. I'm glad everyone loved the finale though. I am also anticipating longer days of sunlight :)

So glad to hear your dad's surgery went well! Will keep him in my thoughts and prayers (also, did not know ankle replacements were a thing. Modern medicine is pretty cool!)

Anticipating: The month of March. I have a lot of busy weekends and a bittersweet day that month, so I'm both looking forward to it but also, sort of dreading it!

Loving: We have sun today...never mind that it brings snow tonight and this weekend.

Grateful for the ability to really talk to my husband about things, both large and small. Our couple communication skills have improved in the last year or so and as silly as it sounds, having those big talks with him makes me feel so much closer to him.

Hope your dad recovers quickly from surgery! :) I still have no idea what I want to become when I grow up. Maybe just a fun and interesting person, rather than a person defined solely by my 9-5?

Coincidentally, I posted a "Currently" post just yesterday evening!

Cuuuuuuuuuuute boots! Love them. Glad your dad's surgery went well -- isn't medicine amazing?

Count me in as SO EXCITED for House of Cards to drop on Friday!

I hope your dad recovers well! Also, like Nora, I did not know ankle replacements were a thing! That's pretty cool.

I am anticipating my trip to Savannah in about a month, loving that we now have a Trader Joe's in town (!), and grateful for the beautiful Florida weather (sorry for the brag!)

Yay for warm and comfy boots (I need a new pair!) and successful surgeries. Also, I know it's hard to tackle the tough questions of work, life, etc. ... but, aren't we damn lucky to have the option to consider making a change? Silver linings, they're always present. =)

Those boots look really cute! I requested Americanah at the library so hopefully I will have it soon and I'm staring Girl on the Train tonight! Whoooo! I FINALLY finished my super boring book club book so girl on the train is my reward book. I also have a tree that grows in brooklyn out from the library and the rosie effect borrowed from a coworker that I need to get to.

I'm wishing for more blog inspiration lately. I've been really struggling with blogging these days!

Love those boots - hooray for warm feet in icy temperatures! Also, thanks for the reminder because I want to read Americanah as well!

Anticipating: Lemon's arrival. At times it seems SO close and other times SO far away!

Loving: My husband who is so understanding and considerate, even on days when I cry after walking in the door because I'm so tired.

Grateful for: Our bed. It's warm and comfy and has been a place of rest and rejuvenation for me so much lately!

I am also so looking forward to spring. But those boots do look pretty cool!

Love those boots! I keep telling myself that I should buy a pair for walking Harley in the winter, but I just haven't yet. Hope your cold stays away!

I am glad that your dad's surgery went well! My grandma had double hip replacement surgery last year. She did the same thing actually; first she did one, then recovered a bit, then did the other. Before the surgery she could barely sit in the car without pain, but now she is so much more mobile and pain free! I think your dad will be so much happier after he gets both taken care of...

Sorels are the best! I have a pair for snowy trips (since we don't really get much of any here) that I love.

I can feel you on the career frustration. I am sort of in a point of transition where I may be switching my career plans (again, ugh) for now, but I'm trying to be flexible about it. I'm just not sure that I'm cut out for this science focused major. Organic chemistry has been beyond frustrating and defeating.

I am grateful that your Dad's surgery went well and he is on the road to recovery. Pain level has been quite low, but he has a high pain threshold after years of pain!
He races around the house on his scooter so I have to be careful not to get run over!

I hope your dad recovers well from surgery :-)

I am anticipating an evening full of laughs with Christopher's family.

I am loving the Fresh Prince episodes that are airing right now.

I am grateful for the yummy potatoes that I just ate.

I, too, am very thankful that Dad's surgery went well on Monday! This nurse was a worry-wart at the beginning of the week....

65-70 minute presentation. Holy crap. I can't even imagine. I think I'd start rambling...I'm positive I'd ramble. That is amazing!

Those boots are so cute! It's so funny to see winter boots, since they are non-existent in this part of the country. I noticed when we went home for xmas, how many people were sporting these fashionable things. I wear my ballet flats on 'cold' days in AZ....

I hope you guys can get some respite from the winter brisk soon!

I am loving that I am getting into a running routine again.
I am grateful for good coffee :)
