Weekend Recap

This past weekend was one of those perfect summer weekends that made me so thankful to live where I live as the weather was just picture perfect.  Phil was gone for the weekend for a golf trip, so I was on my own.  I definitely missed him but I was able to keep plenty busy and had a good mix of active time, social time, and down time.  Here's how I filled my weekend.

On Friday night I went to happy hour with a couple of coworkers that I used to work with.  We hadn't all been together in over a year so it was great to get together and catch up.  That night I was in bed by 9 pm reading.

On Saturday morning I was up bright and early for a run with my club.  It was the first official long training run for Twin Cities and my 10 mile run went great.  I ran with someone new to the club so it was fun to get to know someone on the run.  It was a beautiful morning and when we finished the run I said, "Gosh I love Minnesota."  That sense of thankfulness for being back in a place I love has not worn off and maybe (hopefully) it never will.

Our 10 mile route took us through my neighborhood which is one of the prettiest areas of Minneapolis in my biased opinion.
On Saturday afternoon I had some errands to run.  I wore the shirt from the Book Riot Store that Amber got me for my birthday in February.   It was the perfect birthday present for a book-lover like me!

I swung by Phil's before running errands to check on Oscar.  I could tell he was pretty lonely after spending his first night alone, so I played with him lots.  It's tough to get him to stay in one spot long enough to take a non-blurry photo but I captured a couple to send to Phil.

After running several errands, I took advantage of the beautiful day and read on my balcony while snacking on watermelon.

A cool drink + watermelon + a good book + a view = perfection
I went to church that evening and then my friend Amanda picked me up and we headed to the musical Once.  I wore a dress that I hadn't worn since our trip to Jamaica!

I still heart stripes!
Once was amazing!  If you have the chance to see it, I highly recommend it.  The cast is incredibly talented and the show was about 2.5 hours long, including the intermission, which is the perfect length of a show in my opinion (I think some broadway shows get a bit long).

On Sunday morning I woke up early without an alarm and enjoyed breakfast on my patio.

Then I was off to my first open water swim!  The lake I swam at is 6 miles away so I biked over there so that it would sort of be a brick workout.  I got to try out my new triathlon outfit that I had purchased the day before.

The open water swim went pretty well, aside from a little snafu with leaking goggles that resulted in me *almost* losing one of my contacts... I guess it's time for me to buy some new ones.  I swam about 0.75 miles and was definitely glad to be done at the end!

Sunday afternoon and evening were very low key.  I did a lot of reading on my balcony.  I can't remember the last time I sat and read for several hours so that was nice and very needed.  In the evening I tried a new recipe that I had printed out a long time ago.

I am glad I liked it as it yielded quite a bit - although I am sure Phil would not turn down some leftovers.  I was going to try to reduce/eliminate my dairy intake this month but the last two recipes I've made were cheesy ones so that's been a bit of  #fail.  Maybe next month I'll do better!

How was your weekend?  Was the weather beautiful where you are?

Sounds like a perfect weekend!!! I had lots of family over and haven't had a low key weekend in a long time, so I'm pretty jealous of yours!

I really love that dress! Not everyone can wear horizontal stripes but it looks great on you! And your new triathlon duds look comfortable.
Swimming takes such endurance so .75 miles is quite awesome! Remember when you kids swam across Battle Lake? I wonder how far that was?
Sounds like you had the perfect weekend, sans Phil!
We had a great weekend at the lake, especially Saturday because the breeze was from the south so the lake was like glass most of the day!

Oscar is adorable! Glad he did ok his first night alone and that you were able to play with him a bit. Your weekend sounds totally relaxing and I have to say I'm a tad envious. This was our first full weekend with the girls and as usual, we did too much, resulting in me having a near meltdown yesterday evening. We had fun, don't get me wrong, I'm just wiped the heck out!

Love, love, love sweet Oscar. I'm glad he had your company! What a great weekend! Your new hair is cute even when it is wet! And I'm very glad you loved "Once!" So much to love here!

We were up north, glorious weather, productive book and art time. Life is good.

I can totally get behind this entire behavior pattern. Of course you have to get in open water if you have some new tri gear! Perfect. and I'm starting my long run buildup for TC too, got 12 miles done sunday morning. Great job!

Oh, Oscar's sweet kitty face just makes me so happy!

My weekend was busy but really good. And I fit in some relaxation time in between the bouts of productivity, which was nice. Our weather? Suuuuper hot, but I don't mind it. It's the price I pay for super mild winters, ha!

I need a weekend like yours!
Love seeing your hair all curly at the length it is. I'll have to show Elle as I am sure she will find that cool Auntie Lisa has curly hair. Did I tell you we are going thru a major " i don't like my hair phase"? Almost every day she has been asking for straight hair. She is 4 and it breaks my heart so I just keep telling her this is how God wanted her to be made and so forth.

You totally deserved a low key, "you" weekend! Those are so nice sometimes!!

Omg, Oscar is so dang cute...

The difference between puppies and kittens is soooo different. Had we left our puppy home to be "check out" - our house had been destroyed those 1st months ;)

I am envious of your triathlon outfit! I never did purchase one...and rigged my own outfit with a 2 piece swimsuit, & bike shorts for my HIM.

Love that dress, too!!

What a fun weekend you had! How are you liking training for the triathlon? And Phil's new cat is adorable :)

I'm trying not to complain because I love summer and sunshine but the weather was a little too hot for my liking. It was perfect laying by the pool weather but not good if you wanted to do anything active or outside!

Your weekend sounds like it was PERFECT, there is definitely a reason we are good friends. Love weekends that are a mix of social + productivity + relaxing. Also that mexican casserole recipe looks yummy, I will have to try it!

It's been crazy rainy here lately. Granted it normally rains in Louisiana during the summer but I feel like it's been far worse than normal. Of course if it isn't raining it's like 100 degrees outside which isn't really preferable either. Basically I'm ready for fall weather to get here!

Poor lonely cute kitty!!

Your weekend sounds lovely. Your breakfast reminded me of my breakfast this morning. I was early for an appointment so I read French Milk and ate a cheese croissant while doing it. It was perfect.
