Quick Lake Getaway

As I mentioned last week, I took Thursday and Friday off so I could make a quick trip to my parents' lake home.  My brother from Chicago and his family were up there for the week but I was unable to join them over the weekend since I had plans to see Music Man with Phil's mom.  I'm really glad I was able to take 2 days off from work so I could spend some time with them as it had been way too long since I'd seen them!

I got to the lake late on Wednesday night and was woken up on Thursday morning by my sweet niece, Anna, who is almost 4.  She crawled into bed with me and we chatted for a bit which was fun.  My brother made some awesome gluten free pancakes which were made out of cornmeal and called johnny cakes.  I was so touched by the fact that he did some research and found a GF recipe to try.  After breakfast we all changed right into our swimsuits.  I love being at the lake because all I usually wear is swimsuits and pajamas.

Sweet Anna
It was an overcast, hazy day but even an overcast day at the lake is a good day.  I love days like Thursday where the lake is like glass.

The calm water meant it was the perfect day to do some paddle boarding.  My niece and nephew had never been paddle boarding before so it was fun to introduce them to it.

Kolin got the hang of it right away and toodled around on his own quite a bit!

My parents got there later that afternoon and we spent the rest of the day catching up and relaxing outside.  On Friday morning, we woke up to an absolutely perfect lake day.  The sun was shining and the lake was once again like glass!  It was my mom's birthday so I am glad she got the gift of a perfect day at the lake!

I headed out for a quick 5 mile run and got back in time to join the family for my mom's birthday breakfast pontoon cruise. It was fun to cruise around and have breakfast and Bloody Mary's.

The birthday girl and my dad.  I hope I age as well as my mom has!
My sister and her kids got to my parents shortly after we got back from the boat cruise so I got to see my 2 nephews and niece.  Our time together only overlapped by a couple of hours but I'm glad I was able to see them.  I'm always amazed at how much Evelyn changes every time I see her!

Bikini babe Evie!
Evelyn is not a fan of the sand so we brought the lake to her - she was very content to play in a small bowl of water.

And just like that, my time at the lake was over as I had to head back to Minneapolis for Phil's birthday get together that evening (his actual birthday is today!!!).  I was only there for 1.5 days so it was a very quick trip but a fun get away.  And luckily Phil and I will be heading back to the lake this coming weekend so I've got more lake time in my future!  Being at the lake is definitely my summertime happy place.

Where is your favorite place to be in the summer?  I love being in Minneapolis in the summer as we have so many lakes and other outdoorsy things to do, but nothing compares to being at my parents' lake home.

Oh Lisa, I'm so glad you had the opportunity to spend some downtime with your family. And what a handsome family they are! I know what you mean about the lake -- my favorite place, too. I've seen paddleboards on ours but never tried it,figuring if I fell off I'd never get back on! But they look like such fun. And it seems so beautiful where you are!

Big, belated happy birthday wishes to your mom! She is simply lovely!

I have to say that last Friday was probably the most perfect birthday I have had in years! Four of my five children and all of my grandchildren were together for part of the day, and to be able to spend it on the lake was icing on the cake! I am so happy you could sneak some time off and be there!

Happy birthday to Phil!!!!!!!!

That looks like such a peaceful, beautiful time you spent at the lake with your family. Those kids are all so adorable too :-)

My favourite place to be in the summer is probably camping at Clear Lake, or hanging out in my own backyard.

Babies in bikinis are so much cuter than babes in bikinis. Don't you think? Gah.

I have only been three times in the last three months but I am in awe of the lake Sugarface's family lives on. Blue blue blue waters and flanked by mountains and hills with mini islands in the middle that you can just ride your boat to and park and hang out for the day. Just gorgeous. I feel so at peace every time!

I definitely prefer my lake, and I have a friend who has a new cabin, and she doesn't always get why i don't want to drive the 90 minutes to her lake. I know its just as fun, but I'm a homebody, and like my lake best.

It's so nice to have a place to go in the summer! We sometimes go to David's parents' house in Mississippi.

That looks lovely and it sounds like everyone had a great time. Is that the same lake your Dad goes ice fishing on in winter? It must be a real treat to have a get-a-way like that for all the seasons have to offer. I'm lucky that I live at a cove, I haven't tried paddle boarding or kayaking yet but I really want to.

I am so glad you were able to spend time with your family.... whenever you talk about your parents' lake house, I am like "awww, wouldn't that be nice! " :) Glad you got to see your nieces and nephews too!

You already know what I am going to say about my summertime happy place, definitely the Cape.

It's so nice to have these wonderful destinations to gather with family AND enjoy some summer fun. I just finally (yesterday) bought a paddleboard. I am in love with paddleboarding. It was a bit too rough yesterday to really enjoy it, but eventually!

I love seeing your beautiful nieces and nephews. Evelyn is so adorable and I love that she doesn't like sand, so funny. Max didn't like it in January when we went to Florida either but he is used to it now. He still gets a little mad when it's on his hands though- I was trying to get him to help me build a sandcastle yesterday and it took a bit. Ha ha.

Did you guys have the lake house when you were younger? Did you also go up as kids? I used to actually be a lake person as a kid :)

That looks like so much fun! How awesome you have such a great summer getaway that doubles as lots of time spent with family! I definitely really enjoy camping and being on the lake as much as possible in the summer as well! I would loveee to have property on a lake one day but for now camping on them suffices :)

Once again I am so thankful that you are right back where you are meant to be!!! Love lake memories!!! I have not managed to get to our lake house once this summer! Life has been crazy busy! I think about it but I honestly don't think it will happen this year. Your nieces and nephews are all just too precious!
