Shouldless Days of '17: August

We are (almost) 2/3 of the way through 2017 and so far I am on track for carving out a shouldless day per month! This shouldless day ended up being one of my laziest as I wasn't feeling well in the afternoon/evening. Here's how I filled my day.

In the morning, I met a friend for our weekly Farmer's Market date. I didn't buy much this week - just 2 ears of corn for dinner later this week. Afterwards we stopped by a coffee shop for a latte (for me) and tea (for her). I also picked up a GF blueberry muffin to enjoy later in the day.

When I got home, some mild nausea set in so I laid on the couch and did some reading. I started "Truly, Madly, Guilty" by Liane Moriarty. It's pretty good so far although there has been a lot of build-up to "something" that happens at a barbeque and I'm just ready to know what happened.

Oscar cuddled a bit before hopping up to her favorite spot on the couch. She looks so long in this photo as she is all stretched out!

I eventually napped for a couple of hours, which is so not like me and goes to show that I was definitely feeling off. When I woke up, I mustered up the motivation to go to my garden as I hadn't been there since earlier in the week.  I picked lots of green beans...

... some tomatoes (some need to ripen further but they've been 'bursting' on the vine so I decide to pick some of them a bit early)...

... and some tomatoes, a green pepper, and tomatillos.

After that, it was back to the couch for me. Oscar eventually jumped up for some cuddling and we watched a couple of episodes of Season 5 of Suits.

I laid on the couch for the rest of the day until Phil got home from his mom's around 8.  And then it was up to bed for me.

All in all, not much most 'fun' shouldless day, but of all days to not feel well, Sunday was the best day for that to happen since I didn't have much planned.

What did you do this weekend?

I love that you do these! And it sounds like you needed a restful one. Great garden haul this summer!

Oscar really is the best! I think today is a shouldless day for me -- well, once I got the weekly trash out! Weekend was good. Some swimming, cooking, time with Rick, a gallery opening. All good.

It feels like a lazy day to lay about here, that's for sure. Hang in!

Yesterday was close to a shoulless day, as we went to church, and then I made some soup, watered my flowers and read the paper! I made chicken rice soup in my instant pot and it really went fast - less than half an hour to cook! With prep, it was less than an hour - love that appliance!

I still need to read that one!! I know I'll eventually buy a hbo go subscription so I can watch all their awesome shows, and would love to see that one with reese witherspoon! I was out in the rain a lot this weekend, but it felt good to be busy and see different people.

I found her books to be quick and easy if that is what you want, but they are all the same format and they are a little too girly for me at times. I mean, you know that the guy that you like is going to get the girl that you feel sorry for. However, sometimes when I am on vacation etc that is the perfect kind of book!

Sorry you weren't feeling well, but it's probably a reminder to slow down a bit and take it easy once in a while! I actually had a horrible night's sleep on Saturday night (maybe 3 hrs if I was lucky) so I woke up, read until the stores opened, ran errands until it was light and then worked in the yard and was done by about 9 am which was totally unexpected!! So I had a shouldless day on Sunday too. I have also prepped all of my meals for my trip, so now I just have to pack everything up and I am ready!

It sounds like the perfect shouldless day because your body really needed to rest! And so good you had no plans so you could honour that!

Your garden is doing so great this year. I read Truly Madly Guilty when I was in Hawaii and it was the perfect book for a beach vacay. I do like Liane Moriarty as I find her books fast and easy reads but I also think they tackle more difficult topics than typical chit lit. Like the hoarding / infertility aspects of that book were both really interesting.

I hope you're feeling better now! Your garden is producing quite a lot! Next summer I hope to have raise beds rather than mounds as I know the plants will do better. But we are getting some tomatoes slowly but surely. Last weekend, we went out to a brewery that's on a farm that is great for kids (they have picnic tables and a whole kids play area + sand pit) with some friends and then on Sunday I worked at the running store.

That's too bad that you weren't feeling well for your shouldless day, but I suppose it's good that you didn't have anything planned so you could just hang around the couch. I hope you're feeling 100% now!

Your green beans picture literally makes my mouth water.

Sometimes we just have to listen to what our body is asking for - rest!
