Reading: The new Liane Moriarty book, Nine Perfect Strangers. I like the book and it's been a fast read but I don't exactly love it. I really enjoyed this author's earlier books but the last couple just haven't been as good.
Loving: seeing pictures of everyone's trees on social media. I feel a little sheepish admitting this, but we have decided not to put our tree up this year. Now that Paul is crawling, he gets into everything and he doesn't understand 'no' yet. He's usually up when I'm getting ready in the morning. He plays in the living room while I'm getting ready in the bathroom and I can just see him messing with the tree. I can't watch him non-stop and Phil is in the shower at that time. So we decided we will just take this year off from having our tree up. We will be celebrating Christmas at my parents so at least there will be a tree to enjoy at their house!
Frustrated: that I have a pesky flare in my left hand that just won't go away. It's really minor so it's not bad enough to warrant a steroid shot but it's painful and annoying. It's in my left hand so at least it's not my dominant hand.
Feeling: excited to celebrate our first Christmas with a baby. Paul won't remember this Christmas, but I will! I bought a kit for making a hand print ornament. I think that will be a great keepsake from his first Christmas!
Anticipating: his tubes procedure tomorrow. I'm kind of nervous about it as he can't have breast milk after 2:30am so he's going to be starving but we'll get through it. We check in at 6:30am and the surgery is at 8am so at least we'll get it over with early in the day! I'm hoping this is a game changer for us. It's been so hard to watch him get sick over and over again and his sleep has been just awful! Here's hoping we all have more sleep in our future!
Grateful: for health insurance. It's been quite the expensive year between my blood clot hospitalization, having a c-section + 6-night stay in the hospital when Paul was born, all his specialist appointments and now his tubes surgery! We met our out-of-pocket in March so haven't had to pay anything since then!
Working: on Paul's baby book. I've been good about writing in it each month but I recently ordered a bunch of prints from Shutterfly as there is a page for photos for each month. I'm so bad about printing photos but now that my google photos is connected to shutterfly I'm going to try to get better about it!
Listening: to holiday music on our Amazon echo in the kitchen whenever we feed Paul. It's nice to have some festive music in the background and Paul seems to enjoy my singing. ;)
Wishing: that it didn't get dark so early! I hate how short the days are during this time of year, but in less than a month the days will start to get longer so I'm focusing on that!

Christmas trees & children are a challenge! We're looking forward to Christmas, too, and having you three with us.
I'm loving the pictures of Paul - he's such a charmer! That foot on his knee is adorable!

The first christmas is always a fun and challenging time. We make the kids go to one of those paint-your-own-pottery place every year at Christmas to put their handprint on a ceramic tile! After I get 12 tiles per kid I can make them into a table or something to watch their hands grow. I can't remember much else about their first Christmas, they don't either of course. But those tiles are still hanging around. Start something this year that can grow with him.
I LOVE the picture of him reading with his Grandma Joan and he's just looking up at you smiling and it's like he's thinking "look how cute I am".

Oh, my gosh, that photo of Paul reading with his leg up is the cutest thing I've ever seen! It's like, quintessential "raising a reader"!
If I had kittens right now, I definitely wouldn't have a tree! I think it makes sense to not have one until Paul is a little bit older.

What a sweetie! I hope the surgery went well, and he did okay without being able to eat. The darkness is so depressing. Today felt especially dark on my drive to work, and the 1/4 inch of ice covering all the roads didn't help. All the highways near the city were closed today due to so many accidents; fortunately I made it to work and back without slipping and sliding too much.
Cute as a button and I love the selfie. Oh, surgery -- that had to be almost as hard for mom and dad as for Paul. I hope it goes really well and helps to solve the problem.
Anticipating our first full weekend babysitting the Baby Grands and grateful for the opportunity. My tree isn't up, either but will be. Kevin and Molly haven't done a tree since Carson was born and probably won't this year, though I might mention to them the possibility of doing a smaller tabletop tree that is up higher. Their house, their rules and I can't let my Christmas Overkill step up! But I think Carson would love it and now he's old enough to get "no"and "don't touch" a little better!
I'm so sorry about the flare! I hope that's easing! I too do not like the short days! You're right they will start to get longer again. I can walk in our neighborhood with a flashlight and I've done that a few times now but Michael gets a bit nervous because some people drive way too fast and you can't see people as well in the dark. I get home and I have to log back in to work and then I don't feel like going to the gym, which was last night, but tonight I'll force myself back out!
My sister forwent the Christmas tree too when the kids were little... it's not worth the hassle, even though it really puts me in the Christmas spirit.
I hope the flare in your hand goes away. So annoying.
