Shouldless Days: May

On Sunday, I had my 4th shouldless day of the year. I didn't take many photos of the things I did so a mostly wordy recap will have to suffice!  Here's how I spent my shouldless day!

- After waking up without an alarm, I had a leisurely breakfast of GF oatmeal + coffee while catching up on email/blog reading.

- I went to mass at the Catholic church by Phil's. I haven't become a member yet as I want to go for a couple of months to make sure it's a good fit but so far, I like what I see/hear. The music was so pretty on Sunday as the choir was accompanied by a piano and violinist. I love my church in my old neighborhood, but the choir was always accompanied by an organ and I STRONGLY dislike organ music. I know that is a strange thing to strongly dislike but I think the sound is so harsh whereas soft piano music is so much more pleasing to the ear - at least for me!

- After church I went to the gym for my 20 minutes of no-resistance biking time. My time on the bike was sandwiched by time on the arm bike. It felt good to work up a sweat on the arm bike.

- In the early afternoon, I relaxed on the deck and finished the book I was reading. It was a disappointing read - I only gave it 2 stars. It was still glorious to sit outside and read, though! I did the same thing on Saturday, too.

- In the late afternoon, I watched a couple of episodes of Gilmore Girls. I'm about 1/4 of the way through the final season. I don't like where the story lines are going, though! While I was being lazy on the couch, Oscar was having a lazy day, too. She barely moved from the chair all day.

- In the evening, I warmed up some leftovers and started reading "The Distant Hours" by Kate Morton. This is another book I have owned for several years. I'm really on a roll with reading books I've owned for awhile - this is the 3rd one I've read this month!

- Phil got home from his mom's around 8 that night so we ended the day by catching up on what the other person had been up to all day and talked about our plans for the week. Then it was up to bed for a bit more reading before turning out the lights.

All in all, it was a pretty lazy and low key but enjoyable day. Hopefully I'll be able to include more activity in my next shouldless day, like a long walk which sounds so glorious right now.

That sounds like a great day to me! I love those days where you just read and relax and don't try to do an errand or meet up with anyone. They are few and far between! This Sunday I was supposed to volunteer at a race, but since they had extra people, I actually backed out (gasp) and ended up sleeping in (until 6!) and reading for a while before heading out for lunch and a baseball game. So it was a half-shouldless day! However, now my fridge is pretty bare, as I generally do my grocery shopping on Sundays!

I'm glad that there is a church close by that you are feeling good about! I love piano music! I had a teacher in high school who would play for us sometimes and he was such a fantastic pianist! He played at the country club on the weekends. I think that's awesome that you're reading books that you've had for a while! I don't have that many "book" books since I usually read my Kindle. Down at the lake house I have several favorite Norah Roberts and SEP so I have something to read when I'm on the dock because I can't see my Kindle in the sun. I need to schedule a "shouldless" day but at this point it's going to be a while :)

Oooh, such a relaxing day! This weekend is going to be really busy for me so I'm looking forward to the first weekend in June when I can have two shoudless days in a row (also known as: two napping days in a row). I need to start reading some books I already own so I can donate/give away most of them as I have way too many taking up space in my house. I also prefer piano to organ. Our organist is on vacation right now so we had a substitute this week and she played the piano in the front of the church - it was so pretty!

Sounds like a perfect Sunday! I am getting so far behind on my reading as we have been working outside on weekends and after work on weekdays, but I love being outdoors just as much as reading and I love planting flowers and doing yard work.
I prefer piano to organ but it depends on the organ and who is playing it! Sometimes it is majestic, but so few people play organ these days.

I am not a fan of how Gilmore Girls ended/the entire last season. I also heard that the 6th season was the only one Amy Sherman-Palladino didn't have any control over, or that she had left the show by then or something, which if it's true makes total sense to me!

Sounds wonderful to me! Boy, Oscar is a cute sleeper! Seems like a perfect day -- laid back and mellow. On to the new week!

Sounds like the perfect day! I've never seen any of Gilmore Girls- lots of people have said that it's good though, so maybe I should. Just need more time in my day!

That sounds like a fabulous shouldless day, but yes, a walk would be nice. It must be so hard for you to not be mobile when you are typically so active.

Ughhhh I am very nervous to watch the 7th season of Gilmore Girls. I have heard nothing but terrible things. I'm on the 4th season currently!

Your shouldless day looks WONDERFUL! I had a few days like that earlier this month and I think Memorial Day is going to be a shouldless day for me, as well. :)

Stick with GG; the end won't leave you disappointed. It's one of the shows that ends in a way that I think is true to the nature of the previous seasons and didn't make me want to scream or stab anyone (vs How I Met Your Mother, which I'm STILL mad about). I can't wait to see what the revival looks like :)

That sounds like a great day. Reading on the deck is such a simple pleasure but one that I feel like I don't do enough. I'm definitely trying to spend more time outside on nice days this summer than I did last.

The last season of Gilmore Girls had different show runners and was much less enjoyable than the previous seasons in my opinion. I still watched because I was invested in the characters but the writing and plots really were just not as stellar.

That sounds like an awesome shouldless day!! Your deck is so nice! Great summer reading spot. I definitely don't love the last season of Gilmore Girls, especially now that I'm rewatching and remembering how amazing the early seasons are!
