New Years Eve at the Cabin

A week later, I am finally getting around to posting about my weekend at the cabin. I headed up there after work on NYE and stayed until Saturday. It was great to get away from the city for a few days & spend some time with family. 3 of my 4 nephews were there, so I had a blast hanging out with them.

James (my Godson who is 4.5) had some legendary comments. He is the most precocious kid I've ever met. We went to out dinner on Wednesday night after Mass; James had already eaten, but my mom asked him if he wanted something off the kids menu so he wouldn't feel left out. His response: "No, I just came for a drink."

What? What 4 year old says that? He also was very concerned when he woke up in the morning and didn't find me sleeping next to him - guess he thought I had stayed out all night. He was relieved to hear that I had just slept on the couch. Lastly, when my mom was tucking him in on NYE night, he asked, 'How come Lisa and Ryan aren't together anymore?' Hmm... good question buddy, but the better questions is - how the heck do you still remember him! Ryan and I broke up almost a year ago. Shouldn't those memories be gone by now? I do not envy single moms that are dating - I am leery of introducing another boyfriend to my nephews, so can't imagine what it's like when you have kids of your own.

He asked me the same question the next morning. He didn't like my initial reason (he took a rocket to the moon) so I settled for telling him, "well, he's just not enough like your dad." He sort of nodded his head as if he understood. Ahhh, gotta love curious 4 year olds!!!

After that heavy conversation, James decided it was time to relive Halloween, circa 2007.

He was busy running around the cabin, trying to save us from bad guys, but took some time to sit by his auntie, and even let me wear his mask for a bit.

My brother, his wife, and their 2 boys were up at the cabin as well. Andrew and James are the best of buds and are getting better and better at sharing toys! Quite remarkable for a 3 & 4 yo!! James even let Andrew play with his Leapster!

I think Andrew will be following my brother's footsteps. He has his own little toy Blackberry and loves playing on my old computer. He has figured out how to check out movie clips on Netflix and knows how to add them to their queue. I'm sure impressed - he's only 3 so who knows what he'll be doing by the time he's in school!!

While Andrew played with the Leapster, James got to hold Matthew. Matthew is nine months old and is now crawling and pulling himself up on furniture. I think he'll be walking shortly as he kept trying to stand up last weekend!

My brother, our resident foodie and the chef for my upcoming graduation party in May, sat down long enough to take a photo with Matthew.

Check out all of Matty's hair! My brother even let me put it in a little pony which Matthew did NOT like (can't say I blame him). He got his first haircut this week, so that's probably the only time I'll ever be able to do that!

I had an absolutely wonderful weekend. As much as I am hating the sub-zero temps & all the snow we've had this winter, I can't complain about being 30 minutes from 2 of my nephews and 2.5 hours from my parents' cabin. Being close to them most definitely outweighs the downsides of this ridiculously frigid environment!

Tomorrow I leave for Chicago - I'll be attending my nephew Kolin's bday party. He turns 2 today! Happy Birthday Kolin!!! Can't wait to hang out with you this weekend!
