Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

We've had some nice days in the past week, but it definitely feels as though winter has arrived here in Minnesota. It's snowed a few times in October and the temps have been in the 30-40 range in the a.m. Which is going to feel tropical come December - but right now it feels quite frigid.

There is a silver lining to this cloud, though. Cold weather means warm jackets. And let me tell you - I love jackets. I just bought one last month and I absolutely love it. It's a classic wool jacket from J.Crew that I have been coveting for many years. Here it is!

Oh, check out my new hair do! I finally got in to see my girl -we went back to my darker fall/winter color, which I am loving! Now if only she could come over every morning and recreate this look, that'd be fab.

Anyways, back to jackets. You might have thought I only hoarded books? Nope, I also have a mild obsession with outerwear. But the funny thing is that I had NO idea that I had a disproportionate number of coats until my friend Heidi came to visit last spring. She took one look at my closet and I think she might have gasped when she saw how many coats I own. Have a look for yourself.

Not too bad, right? Right? Ok, maybe I have more coats than a single girl needs. But it's cold here like 300 days of the year, so it's a worthwhile investment. And if you depreciate the costs of these jackets over the number of times they get used each year, well, they are quite 'cheap' from that perspective.

I can't believe i just used the word depreciate when talking about coats. Oh wait I can. I am a finance nerd.

Anyways, since I've already bought a new coat for the year I have forbidden myself from buying anymore. But - if I were to break that rule, here are some coats I would consider purchasing!

But window shopping will have to suffice for now.

Is there a certain article of clothing you have a particularly hard time resisting?

  2. Coats & Swimming suits! Both I am terrible about.

I love your new hair! And your new coat! You look beautiful, Lisa!!!!

The whole coat addiction has made me so depressed since we have moved to AZ. I used to love coats back in ND. Now that I live here -- I don't get to wear my fun coats anymore. It doesn't get nearly cold enough to bust one out. Only chilly enough for a sweater in the evening.

Everytime we go shopping--Ryan literally has to pullll me out of the coat-section. Like a magnet!

  3. Black Banana Republic sweaters!! I have a section of them in my closet!!

I LOVE that plaid coat from Anthropologie - how cute.

PS - this little Southern girl has only one coat =( But it is super cute!

  4. Ooh, I love that middle one from J.Crew! I don't think you have too many at all because of where you live - you have to have variety!

  5. With where you live, that many coats is a must. I am not a fan of winter coats which is rather unfortunate especially since its been in the 30's here most mornings this week too. I am the woman you usually see dashing (as fast as one can dash on snow and ice) with her heavy sweater or thin suede blazer, scarf, and gloves from place to place.

Great hair color! I rock the dark locks all year round.

  6. HAH! Lisa, I am the same way when it comes to purchases like coats (which I'm getting more and more into)I figure if I take the cost by the number of times I'll wear it...well heck I'm getting quite a deal! :)
I am terrible when it comes to assories and shoes...but hey, there are worse things! :)
Love the new hear and the coat...they both look great on you!

  7. Seriously, you're like my long lost twin. I am the EXACT same way! Outerwear is my favorite part of my closet and I own a ridiculous amount of coats!

  8. Your hair is awesome! So cute! I wish my stylist would come to my hosue to recreate my looks too; it would be so nice.

I didn't realize it either but I also have a lot of coats. Two long coats (one camel, one blue), a traditional Navy Peacot, a Columbia jacket which is weather proof but not very pretty, a rain coat and a few other jackets as well. So I guess I have a lot even though I didn't know it!

I am lovin' the Anthropologie one in a big way. I will not let myself go into that store =)

  9. It's so beautiful! While I have to suffer through the same winters I'm really bad with outerwear. I've officially upped my collection to four coats now though, two black, one vintage Hudson's Bay Co. wool coat with amazing inuit style embroidery, and one vintage 1940's beige wool coat with mink trim.

  10. coats are my weakness too!! i didn't know i was all that bad until i moved in with a roommate a few years ago and she almost passed out when i hung all my coats in the closet. i agree with you though, it's freezing for the majority of the year so it's necessary to have a good selection of coats! your new one is super cute! and so is your hair!!

  11. VERY cute coats; all of them, I have to admit it despite my LOATHING of shopping in general.

    Yes. I hate shopping.
    *gasp* The horror!

Actually, I love sweaters. It's the one good thing about cold weather; bundling up in warm sweaters.

And shoes. No matter how much weight you gain or lose, shoes always fit.

  12. Love that last anthropologie coat...and your new one! Your hair looks fabulous! The color is very complementary to your skin tone...you look lovely! (The cut is so cute; I envy all you gals who have great new 'dos for the fall. I am, unfortunately, cursed with "un-stylable" hair.)

  13. Mmm, I'm thinking I may need to buy a new coat after reading your blog today! It makes sense with all the days we need to wear them! It's the beginningo of Nov. and we've been wearing winter coats for a month already! I've been feeling the urge to shop for one, but keep telling myself that the one I'm wearing will be just fine one more year! Ugh, I'm so tired of it! I love the J Crew one the most!

  14. You look so cute- love the jacket, love the hair!

We've already discussed my obsession with clutch purses... it's out of control!

  15. LOVE the jacket and the new hair colour, you look great!!

I also have A LOT of coats, way too many probably. Especially since I only wear 2 or 3 on a regular basis!

I LOVE the coat from Anthro, SO cute! I like plaid a lot :-)

  16. I see the need in your profession for a nice collection of coats. I own a large amount of comfortable fleece outer wear for layering under wind breakers. That has always fit my life style. However, when we went south for the winter last year I was such a duck out of water. I might as well have had "frozen north" tattooed on my forehead. So, I have added some lighter, pastel colored items to my outer wear collection so I won't look like an idiot on those "cool" (50 degree) days in Florida in February. Life is good!!! One can never have too many coats/jackets!!!!

  17. I really only have one coat, that I wear. But then I don't live in a very cold climate so I don't really need more. I'm sure though if I lived in Minnesota I have quite a few more though!

  18. You look beautiful, I love the hairstyle!! (and coats, ha!)

What I have trouble resisting: Victoria Secrets PJS!!! I just saw some in the catalogue and I had the hardest time not going online and just buying some... I'm just putting off though :)

    Oh, and Starbucks mugs :P
