Thanksgiving Recap

Good morning & Happy Friday! I hope that all of my American readers had a fantastic Thanksgiving - I certainly did!

I bet that as I push publish post, some of you are already out in search of good deals! So I will keep this brief today!

My family has this arrangement where everyone is either home for Thanksgiving or Christmas - they spend one holiday with our family and the other holiday with their in-laws. This year everyone is with their in-laws for Thanksgiving, so my parents decided to visit my brother in Chicago and spend the holiday with them. Since I just started a new job, I don't have vacation time yet so I wasn't able to spend Thanksgiving with any of my immediate family. Thankfully, my aunt & uncle, Barb & Paul, let me crash their Thanksgiving! The best part is that Barb & Paul's daughter, Suzanne, also lives Gluten Free so the entire meal was safe for me to eat! And boy did I eat well!! I am too lazy to post pictures so you'll just have to take my word for it!

Before heading out to Barb & Paul's, I did a 10k race. This is the first Thanksgiving that I have done any exercise! I don't know why - I probably consume more calories on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year! The weather was perfect - in the upper 20s/low 30s with no snow or rain! Pretty fantastic for Thanksgiving in the Midwest.

After showering and relaxing on the couch for a bit, I headed over to my aunt & uncles for an amazing Gluten Free feast! I honestly believe that had people not known it was Gluten Free, they wouldn't have known the difference! Everything was just delicious! After dinner I napped for about the 2nd or 3rd time this year (I am so not a nap person!) and then we capped off the night with a game of trivial pursuit.

Unfortunately I was not able to stay until the end of the game since I had to head out to get home to bed. I hate leaving an unfinished game but knew I'd regret not leaving earlier when my alarm went off at 5:15 this morning.

So that was my day - how was yours? Any exciting plans for the weekend? Did you go shopping today? I don't think you could pay me to hit the stores at 5 am!!

  1. Sounds like fun!
You definitely could not pay me to get up and shop at 5 am. Plus, most of the deals can be found online...at a reasonable hour haha.
I am going to hit ONE store this morning...around 10 am haha because I have a 25 % your entire purchase and I'm going to get stuck to make Christmas cards. Otherwise, no shopping for me this weekend (well in stores anyway, online is a different story!)
Congrats on the 10K! This was the first Thanksgiving I didn't exercise in forever, I love to get in a nice workout before eating everything haha

  2. Good for you, excercising on Thanksgiving!!! I definitely want to go for a run NYE or NY's day (yes, I plan that far in advance lol).

No shopping for me, as I have to save some money!

Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  3. I'm jealous of everyone's posts on Thanksgiving food! Makes me wish it was Canadian Thanksgiving too! I'm with you, you couldn't pay me enough to brave the crowds that early in the morning. Although I do love a good bargain, I don't enjoy crowds at all.

    Congrats on running the 10K!

  4. It was fun to share Thanksgiving with you, Lisa! Incidentally, our team won Trivial Pursuit. I was SO tired by the time we finished! Enjoy your weekend!!

  5. Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I didn't know you were doing a 10K -- that's awesome! Good job!

Our Thanksgiving went well. I can't believe none of the dishes turned into disaster!!

We set the alarm for 3:50 am to hit the stores early to get me a new lap top....but I ended up snoozing until 6! I still got my computer though! :)

  6. I actually *kind of* took part of Black Friday up here in Canada (we don't have it here) by ordering some Glo Bars from globakery since they were 40% off. I've always wanted to try them but couldn't justify paying over $40 (with shipping) for only 10 bars. So today I ordered 10 for $28 from her Black Friday sale! More justifiable, in my opinion anyways!

Glad to hear you had such a great time with your family! :)

  7. I am glad that you had fun yesterday. I shopped on Target and Sears online last night, you could get their black friday deals yesterday. I did brave Target and the bookstore for about an hour today and only because I got a front row parking spot.

  8. I keep thinking that one day all of your excersize habits will rub off on me... it hasn't...

  9. I'm wishing it was Thanksgiving up here all over again!

I would NEVER go out that early again - I did it once (in WINNIPEG - it was like -30 degrees!!) and also one year I worked at Best Buy on boxing day and we had to be there at 4am. When we opened the doors at 5 it was just this AWFUL display of selfish consumerism - people smashing things, pushing and shoving each other - absolute nightmare!! I really want to get a new TV or a laptop in the sales this year - but there's no way I'm going on Boxing Day :)

  10. Nice work, Lisa! I was guilty of heading out to go shopping at 5AM. By 11AM when the man wanted to meet up with me, I felt like I had completed an entire day.

  11. Oh my goodness, that sounds amazing! Congrats on the 10k, good work! It sounds like you definitely worked for your nap!

We didn't go out for Black Friday because we don't have it here, but deals have started creeping over the border and we got a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for $200. Marked down from $400. Be still my heart!!
