Midweek Miscellany

My brain is kind of doing flip-flops right now, for no apparent reason, and after struggling to put together a cohesive post, you get a little bit of miscellany.

  • On Monday night, I had a bad dream. I dreamed that I left my coffee thermos on my kitchen counter - in my dream, I walked by a Starbucks and wanted to cry because I knew it was going to be a coffee-free day since I have committed to only having lattes on Fridays (and I have been successful so far!). Seriously, who has bad dreams about forgetting their coffee. I have this little thing called an extreme addiction to caffeine.
  • At the gym last night, I pounded out 4 miles next to a complete psycho. He kept talking to himself and saying, 'we're alone' or something like that. Um, no, you aren't. Every freaking treadmill is currently in use. You are not alone and I don't want to listen to your chanting. Then, after the chanting, he started grunting like he was delivering a child or practicing lamaze. It was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. I wanted to tell him to shut up but I was afraid that might set off some sort of 'roid rage and he'd punch me or something. Dude, don't go to my Y anymore. You are scaring people.
  • I went to a going away party yesterday for a friend & former co-worker whose position is being eliminated. Guess what her boss brought in for treats? A couple of bags of popcorn (which tasted like crap) and some fudge. My friend is the one who always planned everyone else's going away parties or special events and put so much time and thought into them. And she gets popcorn as her parting gift?
  • We are experiencing a heat wave in this part of the country. What does a heat wave mean to us in January? 20 degrees baby! In celebration of the fact that we are no longer hovering in subzero temps, I am wearing a dress or skirt to work every day this week. It's really funny how what you consider 'cold' changes throughout the year. In November, I would have whined about 20 degree temps. Now I am celebrating by wearing dresses (with tights, I'm not THAT hard core).
That's all I've got for you.

What's new in your world these days? Any miscellany to share with me?

  1. I love this post. Excellent!

I feel bad for the popcorn lady. That really stinks!

There is always that "one guy" at the gym who creeps me out. Ick. I feel your pain.

  3. Okay so I'm REALLY tired this morning and I think I laughed for like five straight minutes about your coffee dream!

Wahoo for 20 degrees! It's been a little warmer here (averaging around 20), so when this morning it said 32 I got super excited!

  4. You mean it's not appropriate for me to chant to myself when I'm on the treadmill at the gym? Because, I do it all the time. No...that's just very strange. I feel like stuff that like happens where I work out often, which I attribute to the fact that it's a downtown gym and the downtown area generally attracts all kinds...

I just laughed at your dream. Caffeine is a pretty essential morning fix though, so I get it!!

Finally, I've just always loved the world miscellany. I don't know why, but it's just a nice word!

  5. I would never survive a Minnesota winter. Here the temperature was 16 this morning and I was happy about that. Sad isnt. I will be incredibly excited tomorrow when the high is supposed to be close to 40.

My brain has been all over the place too. I reached a low point yesterday when I tried to make scrambled eggs in a skillt that wasnt big enough, then while transferring those to another skillet, spilled them all over the stove resulting in scrambling eggs directly on the stove top. It was a huge mess.

  6. I was running at the gym the other night and this guy was chatting away to himself. It took me a minute to realize he was on a hands free device with his phone! At the gym! I kind of don't like people who talk on their phones at the gym.

Anyway... we have up to 40 degrees today! It's definitely exciting. The snow might actually MELT =)

  7. Can I have your 20 degrees please? It's MINUS 20 here!! And I'm sorry but "grunting like he was delivering a child" made me laugh out loud :)

  8. I have heard great things about Minneapolis and would love to visit someday... in the summer!! I would literally die there in the winter. We've been dying here because it's been in the 20's the last couple of weeks, but we're getting a heatwave here too; it's supposed to be in the mid-40's for the next few days. Yeah!

  9. Haha, your 'roid guy cracks me up. Probably only because I wasn't there though. Had I been there, I'd probably be double checking the locks on my doors. What a creapo.

We're maybe supposed to get above freezing this week. I'm pretty excited. I do love how temperatures are relative. When I was in FL for Christmas, the natives were bundled up because it was in the 60s. My family was all walking around in shorts.

  10. LMAO! What is with the weirdos at the gym - scratch that, the Y - this morning, a lady in the changeroom was talking about her homosexual son and how he'd finally got laid by a man and was texting her all day saying "I got laid". Ummmm, wtf? I've never encountered so many weirdos until I started going to the Y!

It's WARM up here in Kamloops too! +5 C today, which I think is around the 20 F mark. The only crappy thing here is all the snow is kind of melting and then it gets MUDDY and SLUSHY and gross outside!

    Have a great day, lovely!

PS: I would freak if I forgot my coffee, and when I do I ALWAYS cave and buy some. Need my coffee in the morning!!!

  11. I would not be pleased about the popcorn. And we are also having a heat wave.. I think it's around 13 with the windchill. I realized it was warmer when I didn't immediately crank on my heat when my car warmed up. haaa I am so not brave enough to wear a dress/skirt yet. It has to be of the temp where I wouldn't need tights cuz otherwise I'd freeze at work anyway!

  12. Um, yeah popcorn and fudge is kind of a kick in the rear not even worth bringing.

Miscellany...I'm under the weather and need to feel better for this weekend. Girls weekend at the coast (again)! I need to be healthy for the fun, laughter and adventures we're going to have. Plus, I've promised one of the girls who is also a runner that I'll be running every day with her. Hm...

  13. Haha I was laughing at your story from the gym. I think that the gym brings weird people out!

Hope you're having a great day- even if it is out of sorts :)

  14. I like your post of miscellany!! How SAD about the popcorn and fudge. Can we say "Christmas left overs". I feel so bad for that person!

That is sickeningly creepy about the guy at the gym. I hate gym people. I wish I could be invisible when I'm working out.

I have been having SUCH horrible dreams! Crazy dreams. Weird dreams lately! Funny about the coffe one!! haha!

  16. Okay NUMBER ONE- I hate WEIRD people at the gym. Today when I was working out I kept hearing this weird blowing sound like someone breathing heavy but only like once every 20 seconds- at first I thought it was the song I was listening to haha.

I'm sorry about your friend- I hate when the person who always throws the party doesn't get a good party themselves!

  17. I loved this post!
I can't believe that weirdo at the gym... that is really strange!
This "heat wave" is really nice, even if it is making everything super messy. I hate the slush! :(
As for your dream, err, nightmare about the coffee... I totally understand. It is a nightmare to go a day without caffeine. Sad, but true.
Have a good day lady! :)

  18. I adored this post, you made me laugh so much!

The part with the guy at the gym - crazy. That's all I have to say!

I also had a weird dream... that my family and I were on a spaceship to find another planet with oxygen and we found an inhabited one but we figured we couldn't breathe there so my mom made the spaceship explode and then I could TOTALLY see where we were being projected... it even gave me vertigo!!!!!!

  19. Great post, Lisa! Like your sister, you have such great sense of humor.

Creepy weird about the guy at the gym...and sad about the co-worker. What a slap in the face!

    Have a great weekend!
