Ten on Tuesday

1. Fill in the blank. Sometimes I wish my life was more ______.
balanced

2. How do you cure the hiccups?
Good Lord. I hope someone has a solution for me. I get the hiccups ALL. THE. TIME. I actually got them all the time when my mom was pregnant with me - I bet that was fun to have your 10 pound baby get the hiccups. Anywho, I've tried many of the common solutions like drinking water from the opposite side of the glass/upside down, putting peanut butter on the roof of my mouth, holding my breath. I've had people tell me they will give me $10 if I hiccuped again, thinking that I couldn't perform 'under pressure' like that (I did hiccup and they did not pay me $10).

Bring on the solutions, people.

3. What are three of your favorite indulgences?
- Vanilla Lattes
- Peanut Butter cups
- Book buying sprees!

4. Where is the most exotic place you would like to travel to? The most mundane?
- Most exotic - Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Chances of this trip ever happening? Slim to none.
- Most mundane - I actually don't think there is such a thing as a mundane trip. Even a trip home to my boring home town isn't mundane because it's full of great conversations and is spent re-connecting with family and there is nothing mundane about that!

5. Does having your time planned out stress you or relax you?
It relaxes me - it makes me feel in control. I am sure some people think that my life is too planned out, but it works for me. I like knowing at the beginning of the week what night I'll be taking off from the gym and who I will be seeing on the weekend.

I will say, sometimes I plan out TOO much and then I get kind of stressed out from over-committing myself. I am trying to get better about not doing that.

6. What are your favourite fabrics to wear?
Any sort of knits - especially sweaters, as long as they aren't made from wool. I like the look of flowy fabrics but they are not the most forgiving and seem to draw the eye to any flaws I have!

7. Do you sleep through the night?
Rarely. I actually can't remember the last time I slept through the night. Sleep and I don't really get along all that well.

8. When you were younger, what did you think you would be doing at this age? How close is that to what you are doing?
I thought I'd be a lawyer. I'm so not a lawyer. I thought about going to law school, but then I started to really look into it and realized it wasn't all about debating and arguing... And I just didn't see myself loving writing briefs and doing all the research.

9. What has surprised you most about growing up?
The fact that I don't feel different. I thought I would feel older as I progressed in age, but I really don't. Sure I have matured and grown, but I don't 'feel' 29. I am equally surprised by how fast time is flying by!

10. Are you good at keeping secrets?
Yes, yes I am. The hardest secret I had to keep was when my best friend's now-Husband told me he was going to propose to her! I helped pick out the ring and had to keep that a secret for about 6 weeks. Hardest secret to keep EVER but so worth it! It was such an honor to be a part of their engagement process in a small way. And she got the ring of her dreams!!

  1. I feel the same way about growing up. Somedays, I still feel 25. I keep waiting for this moment when I will wake up and think, today I feel 29 and 1/4.

Hope you're having a great day!!

  2. Ah! How fun that you were a part of your friends engagement process and were able to help pick out the ring.

I am the exact opposite when it comes to scheduling. It completely stresses me out. I like having a general idea but minute detailing drives me a tad crazy.

  3. Sleep and I are mortal enemies, I swear! :(

And I'm totally with you on not "feeling" different as we get older - it still hasn't clicked yet that I'm an adult - it still feels like adults should be my parents' age!

  4. I've been having sleep issues lately too... I think the first time I slept through the night in a really long time was when I was in Florida at my friend's house out in the country last week. It. Was. Glorious.

And I don't feel a whole lot different either. I always thought I would but I don't. It's an odd feeling.

  5. Sleep is the one thing I DO have going for me. Even after a crazy-stressful day I'm able to collapse into bed at the end of the day and I usually sleep through the night quite well.

9 times out of 10 holding my breath cures my hiccups! That's lame that it doesn't work for you.

And I agree that no trip is mundane. Pretty much ALL of my holidays over the last couple years have been used to go HOME. But, really, there's no where I'd rather go right now!

  7. I feel the same way about growing up too- I think it happens so slowly that you dont' feel that different. There are a lot of days that I am shocked t hat people would leave me in charge of children haha. I still feel 13!

  10. One of my favorite indulgences is to get my hair highlighted and cut at a nice salon...nothing beats newly colored and styled hair!

I also rarely have issues sleeping through the night. I'm such a heavy sleeper!

  11. I'm with you about not feeling older as I age...I turned 40 last year, and still feel like a 20-something. (Wish I still looked like one! heh heh)

I also agree about no mundane trips, there's always *something* to look forward to when you travel. And I think traveling is so exciting (even little road trips) it makes every trip special.

I LOVE that you were able to help pick out your best friend's engagement ring...how special! (What a guy, though, that waited SIX weeks to propose after buying it! That's an amazing amount of self-restraint I think.)

  13. That would suck to always get the hiccups! I hate getting the hiccups...
Book buying sprees are an indulgence of mine too. Lately, it's been bad! I need to learn to control myself at Barnes and Noble!

  14. I think it's great that you got to be a part of your friends engagement. And I also feel like I need more balance in my life.
I liked today's Ten on Tuesday so much I did them on my own blog!

  15. I agree- no trip is mundane. Except maybe a business trip. But I don't have to do those anymore. I love visiting family and friends... even if they live in "boring" cities.

HEY KYLA, I did link to you! You even commented on my blog today.

  16. Oh, you and Abby are so different than me! I love unplanned weekends! And about feeling grown up, I don't feel any different inside than I did when I was 21 until I look in the mirror and reality hits me on the head! Always stay young at heart - it's the only way to go! Love you!

  17. I wanted to be a vet. Then I realized it wasn't just playing with puppies and kittens, that you have to cut them open, too. I can't handle blood.

  18. I'm the same as you - planning out ANYTHING makes me feel soooo much more relaxed. I need to see my weeks planned out in front of me or else not only do I get stressed out but I really forget all that I have to do!!
