Marathon Madness Monday: Week 17

Good morning and happy Monday, everyone! My last double digit training run went really well this weekend. The temps were nice and cool (in the 40s), there was no wind, and the sun was shining. I would be thrilled if it was that nice on race day - fingers crossed!

Fall has definitely arrived here in Minnesota - which thrills me to no end. My mood and pace are both positively impacted by cooler temps. I am not nearly as cranky as I was in August and my average pace has been consistently around 9:40 which I am really happy with! I feel like 9:40 has sort of become my 'sweet spot'. I don't know if it is realistic to run 9:40 miles on marathon day, but right now, 9:40 feels like a nice, comfortable pace when I am doing these training runs.

I have another light week of running ahead of me. It feels weird to run 3 or 4 miles on week days. I am used to running 6-8 miles/day. I liked the challenge of fitting in 8 miles before going to work on Wednesday but I must say, these lighter running days are quite lovely!

Amber messaged me yesterday to say, 'two weeks from now we will be heading to the start line!' When I read it, I immediately had the 'nervous butterflies' feeling. I am excited for the race, but I am nervous for the race. But I have properly trained and I know my body is ready for those 26.2! Can't wait to see how it all turns out!

I'll be back next week with my race goals! Have a great week everyone!

  1. It's definitely downhill from here for you...the shorter mileages do feel weird, don't they? Glad your run this week was a confidence booster...you are definitely ready to tackle your race!

  4. The weather just has to be so much more comfortable for you to run in when its cooler like it is now. I am crossing my fingers for cooler temps when you all are in Portland.

  5. Apparently it was beautiful in Portland this weekend. Hopefully it stays that way! *knock on wood*

The fact that it is now LESS than two weeks away seems crazy to me!

  6. Ah, I wish I had your confidence! I just keep feeling like I'm NOT ready. Then I got DailyMile scolded for not tapering enough when I thought I was tapering too much. I obviously don't know what I'm doing...
I think 9:40's would be pretty darn awesome, don't you? I really think you can do it. In fact...I think you can BREAK that in a race! Can't wait to see you do it (well, ok, read about you doing it)!

  11. Reading about your mid week longs runs makes me want to run 8 miles before work! I am usually the one that is doing 3-4 miles in the morning! Your marathon is right around the corner! Enjoy taper!

  12. How exciting for you! It's a good thing the weather is cooperating in your area. Over here (CA), it's been really HOT.

Good luck on your first Marathon =)

  13. 40 degrees? I'm jealous. It's still in the 90's and awfully humid here.

You are SO CLOSE to the end! And I think you are so ready for the race. Both of you are going to rock it.

  14. The cooler weather has really made want to get out there and actually start running. I should get out there and do it before I lose my motivation and use cold weather as my next excuse.

  18. Glad your 12 miler went well! Crazy to realize that it doesn't feel very long when you're used to running 16+ mile runs. I'm hoping weather should be nice on race day...cool, but not raining. We'll see!
