It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas...

I can hardly believe that it's already December 10th! Christmas Eve is just 2 weeks away. How is that possible? Do you remember how it took FOREVER for Christmas to come when you were a child? I remember staring at counting the gifts under my parent's Christmas tree and waiting with such anticipation for Christmas Eve when we would open our gifts! Now I kind of wish that we had an extra week before Christmas - I definitely do not feel ready!

But ready or not, here it comes! I might not be ready for Christmas, but my condo is! Last week, I had 2 girlfriends over for a Gingerbread decorating party. This is an annual event that I host each year. Now, I am far from crafty/artistic, but these 2 friends are very artsy, so I love seeing what they come up with! Here's a picture of our houses! Mine actually turned out decent! It usually looks like a 5 year old decorated it!

Mine is the one on the left!

I put my tree up the Sunday before the girls came over. I bought a new, pre-lit tree this year, which was a good decision! I'm definitely a white lights kind of girl and all of my decorations are silver, white, and blue.

As you can see, there are no gifts under my tree... I have bought some gifts but have yet to wrap a single one! I have my work cut out for me!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Tonight I will be picking up the Barrister from the airport. He's been traveling for work this week so I am very excited to see him! Then tomorrow morning I will head back home for a friend's baby shower - weather permitting... They are forecasting another winter storm this weekend. This is the 3rd weekend in a row that we've had a winter storm; is it too early to say that I am kind of over winter?? I hope I am able to make it home so I can meet my friend's baby & have dinner with my parents and grandma.

What are you up to this weekend? If you decorate a tree, do you prefer white lights or colored lights?

  1. Those gingerbread houses look awesome - color me impressed! It's so funny you're talking about the white vs. color lights on a tree - I just had this conversation with a group of my girlfriends! I'm definitely all about the colored lights, and the more mismatched the ornaments the better!

  3. Lovely tree! I'm definitely a white lights girl too. I love that your decorations were my wedding colours :) Great job on the little house... I've NEVER made one of those!

  4. Happy Friday!

Love the gingerbread houses. They look great. My brother and I do one every year too; I'll have to post pictures of our efforts. We don't do ours until the 23rd or 24th though for some reason.

Since we have two trees, we have one that is white lights, one that is multi-colored. It's kind of fun to have a mix of both!

I hope the winter weather stays at bay for you :)

  5. I haven't decorated a gingerbread house in forever, but it's always so much fun! Also, your tree looks great. I am in the Christmas spirit, for sure, though also can't believe that it's coming up so quickly.

Have a good weekend! Hope you manage to make it home!

  6. Lisa, I'm impressed! That gingerbread house is awesome! Your tree is beautiful, too! I hope the weather holds out so you can come to ND! It's supposed to get bitter cold this weekend, though. Not happy about that! :(

  8. Beautiful tree and gingerbread houses! Wow!

Watch the forecast before you travel tomorrow. It doesn't sound good at all.

We have had a terrible month of weather.

    Be safe!

I am also a white light kind of girl and this weekend... well I hope I have a baby otherwise I have a feeling Mr. R is going to have one crabby bear on his hands!

  11. I love it! I was just saying that I've never decorated a gingerbread house! I need to. So fun! What a great tradition with friends.

  12. Oh my gosh, Lisa, those gingerbread houses are ADORABLE! I'm so impressed. Mine would definitely look like a 5yr old made it bc I have little patience with those kinds of things even though I like doing them. It's always hard to get things to not slide off the roof. I definitely need another week to get prepared for the holidays. I'm going to be rushing around to get things done before flying off to Michigan.

  13. I LOVE the tradition you have with your girlfriends! I think it's so cool and fun :)

Your gingerbread house looks great too!!

It's been above 0 all week and all the snow here is melting and I didn't decorate our apartment since we're going home for Christmas - it does NOT feel like Christmas for me right now! Haha

  14. OK. I'm really, REALLY jealous of those gingerbread houses. Last year, my first time I've ever made a house, it fell apart within 5 minutes. This year, my mom and I went to a decorating class but we were basically on our own and got no help, even though we were struggling so much to put it together! (Waste of $40!) It looked nothing like yours. Yours is BEAUTIFUL!

  15. I grew up decorating gingerbread houses, except we called them Candy Houses because we used graham crackers instead. This year will be the 20th annual Candy House decorating party, although I've missed the last couple because I live across the country. I really miss it. It's such a fun tradition. Yours are really nice!

As for Christmas lights, we always used color lights growing up, but I find the white lights to be more aesthetically appealing and it looks nicer against colorful ornaments.

  16. I love the gingerbread decorating girls night idea, I think Im going to schedule one! Your tree is beautiful as well, I never used to be a white lights sort of person, but the last few years I am really drawn to them!

  17. The gingerbread houses look awesome. I had a gingerbread house party but kids were decorating so they don't look quite as fancy- my adult one will come next week though.

Your tree is very pretty. Eric and I are colored people, but my tree doesn't look as fancy as yours :)

  18. Those gingerbread houses are SO cute!

And I prefer colored lights on my tree =-)

P.S. I just created a Facebook group for MN/WI bloggers. I thought it would be a nice way for us to find each other and plan future get togethers. If you'd like to join, here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_139131052807388&ap=1

  19. We don't do a tree, but I'm WHITE LIGHTS all the way!

Each year my family has a Guys vs. Girls gingerbread house decorating contest with my Grams as the presiding judge. Things get pretty wild!
