Last week, I got together with a couple of girlfriends for a little crafting. We get together every couple of months for crafting projects, and I am notorious for saying, "I am just here for the conversation," because my crafts never turn out (I am so not right brained!) But this project? Totally turned out! And if I could make it, that means you could make it, too. As could a 5 year old because that's where I'd peg my artistic ability... Well, a 5 year old that you'd trust with a hot glue gun.
So here's the process in pictures!
First, cut a strip of fabric. Yes, it looks like I closed my eyes and cut this blindly. I swear I went to kindergarten, you just can not tell. The good thing is that you don't even have to cut it straight, it will still turn out.
Next, cut a circle of felt... Or, if you are like me, ask your capable friends to cut a circle for you because otherwise it might look like this...
Yes, I know what a circle looks like. Apparently I just can not cut one. |
Tie a knot at the end of the fabric and glue to the felt. |
And voila!
I made the flower on the left, my friend made the other flower. You take another piece of felt and then glue the headband between the two layers of felt. |
I also made a little hair clip. |
Do you consider yourself crafty? The only crafty-type thing I am good at is knitting - and that requires me to follow a pattern, so while it counts as craft, it's a very methodical one. Go figure.
"Well, a 5 year old that you'd trust with a hot glue gun."
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHA! Best. line. ever.
That turned out really well - so pretty! I don't consider myself crafty, but mostly it's because I don't have a desire to create things. I'd much rather support others who do!
I don't think too many five year olds could do that. Nor would I trust many with a hot glue gun haha.
ReplyDeleteIt came out awesome! :) I also consider knitting to be a little "crafty" maybe thats just in my own mind. You might have to start calling yourself crafty now.
So cute Lisa! I can scrapbook and stuff like that but otherwise I am not really crafty. Plus I never have time for all the projects I want to do!
ReplyDeleteThose are great, well done! I'm not too crafty myself, but I do enjoy scrapbooking... if only all the decorations weren't so expensive! Those headbands are awesome :)
ReplyDeleteThat is SO CUTE! I'll have to try it. Or maybe you can just open up an Etsy shop :)
ReplyDeletePrecious. Wouldn't it be cute if you used tulle or corduroy?
ReplyDeleteI think your headband turned out fabulously! I think you should try some more crafts and you might just surprise yourself :)
ReplyDeleteI love these headbands. What a fun idea! I bet it looks totally awesome on you too. I would probably be super bad at it... and would definitely burn myself.
ReplyDeleteI can do things that have patterns, like cross stitching and stuff. Nothing overly exciting though.
Well done! I am proud!
ReplyDeleteCUTE! Those turned out so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could make something like that. I can't even knit! I haven't got a crafty bone in my body :P
I love this! I have been wanting to try these...looks adorable!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I think we need a picture of this on you :)
ReplyDeleteNice! Cottage industry!
ReplyDeletegood for you! i would need a step by step showing of the twisting before i would still even attempt hahaha. my kindergarten report cards are hilarious when talking about fine motor skills. i do adore the headbands and clips and would rather spend money at twenty five designs.. she can make my pretties! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh. I am the least craftiest person ever. It's horrible. My mom and I went to a gingerbread decorating class this past Christmas and we were by far the worst in the room. I mean, there were these 12-year-old siblings whose houses look a MILLION times better than ours. I just don't have it in me to be crafty. ;)
ReplyDeleteBut your headband turned out so cute! Love!
Lisa...what has happened?! :) I always thought you and I were tied for least crafty, but now you totally have left me in the dust!
ReplyDeleteNope. I am not crafty at all! I wish I was.
ReplyDeleteThey're really cute! Me likey. :D
ReplyDeleteI consider myself to be quite crafty in terms of ability, I just don't actually make time to craft. I'd rather read a book or watch a film.
I love this, Lisa!! I think I need to try to make a headband....however, I honestly do not trust my ability.
ReplyDeleteI can't do anything crafty. And I mean anything!
And your little comment about knitting being a knack of yours is SUCH an understatement -- you are amazing at knitting!!!
Such a cute idea!I love it!! Projects like that are frustrating to me too when they don't come out perfectly, which they never do.
ReplyDeleteSuper Cute! I am hoping to make one for myself this weekend. I think why I had issues with elle's is the fabric wasn't long enough. Width was fine so hoping the 2nd time around goes better.
ReplyDeleteI'm crafty, but I'll tell you -- I tried those flowers. I was adequate. Yours are good. So, don't sell yourself short! They're lots better than this 'crafty' girl's!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are lovely!! I am going to try this, there is some felt in my box of random crafty bits.
ReplyDeleteI am sort of crafty. I'm a bit haphazard but I find things turn out ok. I really enjoy arts and crafts, which I think is the main thing. if they come out a bit wonky, who cares!
Knitting is a proper craft, methodical or not!
I LOVE it! The headband looks fantastic. You are too crafty. Anyone who can knit the way you do, is definitely incredibly talented.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw instructions on making a fabric flower necklace. I sort of want to give it a whirl.
