Another busy weekend has come and gone! Kyria came to visit so I played tour guide this weekend. I have to say, I did not do the best job as I came down with a cold on Wednesday and it really sort of threw me off my game for the weekend. I was a total absent minded professor. It was alot of: wait, where is my phone... where did I put the directions.... where are my sunglasses.... did I remember to lock the car.... what did I do with my keys.... The thing is, I can be a forgetful person, and then not feeling 100% throws that into overdrive.
Despite my cold and general feeling of lethargy, we had a really good time. I showed her around my neighborhood, we took in a cooking demo at the farmer's market, we met up with Raquelita and ran a 10 mile race and then went to brunch after. All in all, we had a really good time. I just wish I had been feeling better!

Now for the race recap. Kyria ran a really strong race and finished around 1:23 (dang she is fast!). I pulled off a PR and ran it in 1:32:32 (according to my garmin). It was a decent race, but not my best race, mostly due to my annoying cold. I guess me and 10 mile races do not get along as there was some dry heaving around mile 9.5 (I puked twiced during my 10 mile race in April). Or maybe I just tend to run 10 mile races when I am so over-whelmed and exhausted, and puking is my body's way of saying - slow the frick down, woman. Who knows.
Here are my splits:
Mile 1 - 8:58
Mile 2 - 9:01
Mile 3 - 9:07
Mile 4 - 8:58
Mile 5 - 9:16 (started climbing a never ending hill)
Mile 6 - 9:21 (still climbin that damn hill)
Mile 7 - 9:23 (ok, I am starting to get tired)
Mile 8 - 9:12 (we can do this, 2 more miles)
Mile 9 - 9:41 (I spent this mile saying, do not puke, Lisa. Do not puke)
Mile 10 - 9:30 (dry heaving sure is lovely and not at all embarassing in public)
Overall time - 1:32:32, which is a PR of about 3 minutes and 40 seconds. My average pace was 9:15, which wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. It is what it is. My pace really deteriorated at the end, partially because I was so focused on trying not to get sick.

I know I probably sound like a Debbie Downer in this post. I am proud of achieving a PR, and I don't want to take away from that. I think I am just way over-tired and a little under the weather and I don't really see an end in sight to this busy schedule for awhile... But I know eventually things will slow down. I feel fortunate to have a full life, I just need to figure out a way to find balance and not over-extend myself.
You did nice, I don't know would I manage to do that.. It's always nice to have a fulfilled life, that's good!
ReplyDeleteGreat job in the race! It's really hard to give everything when you have a cold so I don't blame you for not feeling great during it. I also wonder if the 10 mile thing has to do with the fact that it's still a long run, but not as long as say a half, so maybe you start out faster, or think about it differently and that's why it ends up being hard for you? Not sure.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm with you on the crazy schedule. I think I got a total of 8 hours of sleep this weekend, and definitely not do feel 100% better yet! I am planning for the weekend of the 15th to be pretty much commitment free, although I think I have a class that Saturday so that's not commitment free, but hey!
Oh no - no more puking during races! I agree, I think it is your body telling you to slow down (especially since you had a cold), but maybe it is something about 10 milers too - weird!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had an overall good weekend though!
Awwww, Lisa! What is it with the 10-milers? How ironic!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you get to feeling better soon! Is there anyway you can take a day off or two to recuperate? There's definitely something nasty going around down here, it's making me extremely nervous for winter. I'm definitely taking all precautions and getting all the shots I possibly can and taking vitamins everyday.
Feel better soon, Friend!
You are hard core for running a race fast enough to get almost a 4 minute PR while being sick. I definitely think that your cold played a role in the nausea and dry heaving toward the end. You should definitely be proud of yourself!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you off to this week? Hope you feel better soon! Take extra Vitamin D3 - it helps so much! Good job on the race and it was great to have Kyria visit you! Glad you had fun despite the "cold"! UGH!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the PR! That's awesome :)
ReplyDeleteAnd a cooking demo at the farmer's market? That's pretty cool!
Haha I am laughing at the "do not puke, do not puke" line, only because I have been there, twice! Puking after or during a race is never fun. But you did pull off a PR, and that's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the race, Lisa! You are quite the road racer these days. I can't believe how well you did it depsite feeling under the weather.
ReplyDeleteOn being exhausted --Not good :( I'm figured it would all catch up to you eventually! You will have to try to look at the things you CAN say no to, and the things you absolutely CAN'T say no to and sort them out until you're feeling back to normal again.
Take care of yourself!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon. If not I think it would be worth taking one of your vacation days and spending the day in bed! Your schedule is just so jam-packed!
ReplyDeleteRunning when sick or feeling off is HARD so I'm proud of you for pushing through and PR-ing despite not feeling 100%!
Slow the frick down woman! Haha.
ReplyDeleteYou did great -- both as a tour guide and at the race. You did PR! Even with your silly cold.
I agree with Amber, can't you take a day off and just read, rest, recoup? Or a half day maybe? That may make a world of difference.
Man, you got your recap out fast! I am way behind today (am quickly checking blogs on my lunch break)
Slow down woman! wow that's a tough 10 mile race.
ReplyDeleteAww, I'm sorry you're not feeling yourself lately. :( Being sick really, really sucks and to PR in a 10-mile race while sick? Rock star, lady.
ReplyDeleteI know I've said this before, but I have to say it again - you are a seriously dedicated runner!! You should be so proud of yourself for doing so great despite being sick!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the PR Lisa! All things considering you did great - I know the feeling of just needing a break! Hopefully you will get one soon so you can rest!
ReplyDeleteOh I hope you feel better soon! Sorry you felt gross at the end of your race but getting a PR time is still quite an accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteHope by now your cold is improved -- I think it may have traveled across cyberspace and found me! I really admire your doing the race when you were under the weather. That's such dedication. Three cheers!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the PR!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are not a Debbie Downer at all :-)
