Surgery Day

Greetings and Happy Friday!  I hope every had a great week.  I had a wonderful trip to Chicago, but am so far behind in life, I haven't had a chance to blog about it!  I'll get to it eventually...

Today is my sinus surgery.  People have asked if I am nervous or scared.  Up until last night, my answer was - no, not really.  Honestly, I just want it to be over with so I can get back to feeling healthy.  I've been battling a sinus infection since late September.  That's a long time to not feel 100%...  The nerves did start to set in last night, but I think that's only natural.

I've had surgeries before so I know how it all works.  I am most nervous for the anesthesia part because I HATE how I feel when I wake up.  I've been put under twice and both times I woke up a crying, disorientated mess.  Those last 2 times I was 16 and 18 so it was totally fine to be crying.  But crying at the age of 30?  Sort of embarrassing.  So hopefully I can hold it together and am not too much of a hot mess when I come to after the procedure.

Luckily my  mom will be here to take care of me. She brought home made chicken wild rice with her and will make other things if I crave them.  It sure feels great to be taken care of.  I am not very good terrible at asking for help, but I know in this case, I have to accept the help that is being offered.  Plus, that is sort of what moms are for!

I'll be absent from the blogosphere most of next week as I recover and try to catch back up on life!  But I will try to keep up on what you are all up to!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

  1. Wishing you the best for your surgery. If it makes you feel any better, there is an anesthetic on the market that is more recent than your last surgery (propofol - of Michael Jackson fame!) and many doctors choose it for short, quick-discharge procedures. After effects are minimal. So you might feel fine!
I know you're eager to be over this sinus infection. Poor girl, that's the worst feeling and to have struggled since September! So glad that will be over for you!

  7. I hope everything goes smoothly and you can breathe again when you wake up! I had that surgery in 2003 and it was brutal. They go in with a sledgehammer and a chisel. Get the good pain meds, they work wonders!

  8. Have a safe surgery, and a solid and speedy recovery! And I hope the pain is minimal (or you get some good drugs)...

Don't feel weird about crying when coming out of anesthesia at the age of 30. You're not the only person with this reaction. Some people cry, some people become extremely aggressive, and some just come out incredibly doped up.

Love you & sending warm thoughts your way. Glad Mom could be there for you!

  10. I'm sure the surgery will go fine. My little sister had sinus surgery, and she has absolutely no regrets. It definitely made things a lot better for her.

  15. I've been thinking of you today! I hope all went well! I only had one surgery and I woke up throwing up for over 24 hours.... bad, bad experience, so I hear you! I hope there is no crying as part of your process today, unless it means you are recovered MUCH quicker in which case it might be worth it!

  16. You will be JUST FINE. This isn't a bad surgery, just a little uncomfy and believe me -- I know from experience how much it helps! Hang in there!

  22. Take all the time you need to get better, Lisa! You really need to focus on kicking this sinus thing in the butt once and for all. Hopefully the waking-up part isn't too bad, and your mom sounds like just the right idea to help you out :)

  23. Lisa! Hope you're feeling better already - I know you will! I was Nor's "nurse" when she had hers done. Ugh. But oh, the wonderful results!

Wondering when you might be getting here to STL for a visit. Seems I keep seeing Paris "things" lately (in the shops and online) which always makes me think of you and Jeanie and my roommate with whom I lived in Provence lo these many years ago!

Enjoy your downtime as much as possible. Holler if you need anything from across the miles!

    Hugs from Michael and Kaye

  24. Hope you feel better soon! Just think of despite the surgery icky junky feeling, you will be feeling so much better and in fact, better than what you've felt in awhile! (Or at least, that was my experience with gall bladder surgery-- )

And I took woke up a sobbing mess when I was 30! Haha, and crying for my husband. Apparently he thought it was cute I needed him in the midst of my disoriented crying! I'm so glad you have someone to take care of you--- it makes recovery that much easier!

  25. So I have to know, how was it waking up from the anesthesia? I've never had it and just the idea of being put under is scary. Hope it was a better experience than when you were 16 and 18.
