Currently...

Happy Monday everyone.  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Mine was mostly filled with studying and organizational tasks, but I did have social plans on Saturday night so that was fun.

I tried to write a post with some thoughts on how things are going so far here, but it was turning into this bitter diatribe, and no one really wants to read about my frustrations with the lack of coffee shops or the fact that there are no chipotles walking distance from where I work or live, or how I had to sit at a different desk every day last week because they didn't get a permanent location set up with me, and so on and so forth.  So suffice it to say that last week was not a great week, but hopefully things improve as I settle in.

I thought I'd ease back into blogging by doing the "Currently" post that Kyria posts month!  Oh and by the way, Kyria is running the Boston marathon today!  Go, Kyria, go!  I will be tracking her and cheering from afar!

Current Book - Emma by Jane Austen.  Becky, Kyla, and I are all reading this and will do a blog swap at the end of the month with our reflections on the book!  I haven't read an Austen book in years, but so far I like this one!

Current Drink - Cherry Limeaid Crystal Light.  I drink over a gallon of it a week!

Current Excitement - I will be home for a quick 24 hour business trip at the end of the month!  I can't wait to see Phil and some of my other friends!

Current fashion trend - I am still loving colored pants.  My favorite ones are some red ones that I got on sale at Banana Republic before my move.

Current Love - Sunshine.  The weather has been beautiful here lately so I am soaking up the sunshine on my walks to and from work.

Current Food - Nothing very interesting as I am still settling and stocking my cupboards with food.

Current Indulgence - The occasional Snickers bar from the vending machine.

Currently Pondering - When/if my perspective about Charlotte is going to change...

Current Mood - Tired.  Between work, studying, and settling in, my days are very long.

Current New Find A local podiatrist.  I'm having foot problems which are preventing me from running right now (which really sucks), so I found a podiatrist and have an appointment this week.

Current Outfit - When I am home from work, I am all about comfortable clothes like yoga pants and t-shirts.

Current Peeve - The fact that I didn't have a desk when I started work last week.  I uprooted my entire life, I wish they could have found time over the last 10 weeks to arrange a desk for me. I know it's not personal and they just didn't 'get around' to it, but it still really really annoys me.

Current Song - Still loving that Pink song I featured in my monthly post.

Current Triumph - Getting all of my clothes to fit in my closet.  I rearranged things and it looks much better.  I still need to do some purging but that will have to wait until after the CFA.

Current TV Show - TV?  What's that?  The only show I watch these days is the morning news program when I am getting ready.

Current Wish-List - That plane tickets back home were less expensive.

Currently Delaying - Putting up the last of my picture frames as I had them my friends arranged in a collage for me in my last place. and I am not so good at things like that.  I am considering waiting until my friend Heidi comes to visit in August and having her help with this as she is very good at projects like that!

  1. Honestly, I am pissed for you that you don't have a desk! As you said, you moved your entire life because they wanted you to, how long does it take to set up a desk? And if they don't have time for that they should've just let you stay in MN! Grr.

Anyway I'm glad you are at least having some good weather! Not to mention fun colored pants :) I hope everything else starts to look up from here!

  2. Colored pants FTW! Hahaha, hang those frames - you can do it! You should not be waiting until August to do so - I think it will help make your place feel like home.

Hope this week is better - and that you get a desk soon!

  3. Wait, they didn't have a desk for you? You moved across the effing country and they didn't have a desk for you? Wow.

LOVE colored pants, especially from BR of course!

  4. Wow, that is TERRIBLE that they didn't have a place set up for you already! They had plenty of time. You uprooted your entire life - the LEAST they could have done was had a desk set up for you. Geez. Way to make your first week a crappy one. What a bummer.

I hope this week is a better one for you!

  5. No desk?? that's so annoying and rude. I would be pissed, too. And then the fact there is no Chipotle nearby or coffee shops just adds insult to injury.

Hope this week is much better than the last and hooray for quick trips home!

  6. yea you should have a desk by now. piss poor planning.

I'd love to say you will eventually love it there, but I've been trying to convince myself of the same thing about this house for 3 years and it hasn't happened yet.

  7. Ugh that desk thing is really frustrating. I hope you get one this week and this week is much better for you! Yay for sunshine, coloured pants and awesome Pink songs. I have been known to listen to that song on repeat :)

  8. For the past month, despite not wanting to leave Minneapolis in the first place, you've clearly expressed a desire to get on with this move. I think what's hard is, now that you've actually moved, things don't magically get better. And, you no longer have that glaring (move) date in the future when you think/know things will get better. So, I get it. It's annoying that you don't have a desk, but it's actually so much bigger than just that (and the trigger to the big stuff is the lack of a desk).

  9. Good to hear you and I have faith that it'll steadily get better. Keep looking for the positives and SOAK.UP.THAT.SUNSHINE! I have been missing the south the last week or two! Sending you loads of love and positive energy.

  10. Hey, Lisa, hang in there. The desk thing is pretty awful -- tht would bug me, too. As Nilsa said, It's bigger than the desk. But you do have sunshine -- so hold onto that, the end of the month trip and know were all rooting for you!

  11. How annoying to not have a desk yet! Sorry, Lisa. Hopefully this week is more organized.

What's going on with your feet? I am so sorry to hear this! Praying! I will say, though, that my foot issue this winter had me seriously unable to walk and within 3 weeks I was better - so I hope your turnaround is similar!

    Thinking of you!

  12. It was great to facetime with you yesterday! At least your weather is better as we had a blizzard and ended up with 10" of new snow on top of the crap that hasn't melted yet from winter so this will definitely go down in history as the worst spring EVER!! I hope you got a "desk" for Pete's sake! And I pray each week gets better for you! I'm sure the stress of moving and unpacking has caused you to be tired and one can't feel to chirpy under those circumtances!

  13. I'm sure your perspectives will change, if you let/want them to. I know some people who have relocated and been miserable until they moved home, and I know people who moved without a choice but then settled down nicely.

I'm sure once things settle down you'll be able to find Charlotte-specific versions of the things you love.

  14. Ha - thanks but I don't think I am good at arranging things. Umm I have lived in my new house for 8 months and my walls are slowly getting decorated!
An easy way to do photos is to use a ledge and then just set them up on it. Some can even overlap. That is what we are going to do down in our living room.

PS:I hope your friend is okay in Boston. What a bunch of jerks to do such a thing. Not excusing their actions but aren't these races tight with security?

  15. Ooooh, I love these kind of posts! I'm loving the sunshine right now too. I love waking up to daylight :-) It makes going to work so much easier.

  16. Oh no, what's going on with your foot? Hopefully the appointment will help. I'd be pissed too about the desk. It's not that hard to get it arranged for your first day of work.

  17. I can't believe they didn't have a desk for you when you arrived. I mean, a work space would have been the least you should be able to expect after such a big move! Jeez.

  18. Thanks for the shout out! Your enthusiasm about my day makes me smile! I loved knowing you were all cheering me on!

Red pants! I still am too shy/cowardly to buy colored pants! You are so brave! How do you wear them?

I am glad you are getting good weather. Enjoy it as much as you can, because Spring really is a lovely time of year! I love the birds, green things and sunshine!
