Music, Books, Miles, and Looks of October

*insert cliche comment about how freaking fast the month went*

October was a really great month for me and I have high expectations for November!

Music:

Your Man by Five For Fighting- I really love the new album by Five for Fighting and this is definitely one of my favorite tracks from the CD.  I like that the score of this song is piano-heavy.

Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus - Ok, I really dislike Miley Cyrus and her attention-seeking antics.  That said, I do really like this song.  I just pretend she isn't the person singing it when I hear it so that I can continue to like it.

Books:

Well October was another strong reading month as I read 8 books.  I also hit my goal of reading 52 books this year - way ahead of schedule!  Once again, instead of recapping the books, I'll share the rating I gave them on goodreads.com.  The best book I read this month was Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg.

Her Fearful Symmtry by Audrey Niffenegger - 3 stars
Life Sentences by Laura Lippman - 2 stars
Brava, Valentine by Adriana Trigiani - 3 stars
The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown - 3 stars
The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom - 3 stars
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - 4 stars
Arranged by Catherine McKenzie - 3 stars
Lean in by Sheryl Sandberg - 5 stars

Miles:

Yep, still not running.  Still no plan for when I can return to running.  I am still biking, though, and started taking spin classes at the end of the month, which I am loving!  I really hope that my RA pain is completely under control by the end of November, but I keep saying this every month and it has not happened yet, so I probably should stop saying "maybe next month" because I just set myself up for disappointment. Anyways, while I am not running any miles, I did wrack up a lot of airline miles as I flew to Minneapolis, then to Chicago, then back to Charlotte and also did a day trip to Columbus.

Looks:

I didn't wear any new outfits this month or anything I really loved, but I did buy a new coat!  I know, I know.  I don't really need more coats, but I could not resist.  I tried this on while shopping at the end of September and could not stop thinking about it.  And then Banana Republic sent me a 40% coupon which sealed the deal.  I ordered it and it arrived while I was in Chicago.  I adore it.  I know I will wear it to Paris, on trips home, and occasionally when it gets cold enough in Charlotte!

  1. I also enjoyed reading Lean In. Love when you find a book you really enjoy. Although running isn't in The cards yet, it's good to see you are still keeping active and enjoying other activities. Yeah for spinning! Like the new coat :)

  2. 40% off?! WIN!

I read a lot this month too although they have all been Scottish romance novels because I'm going through my "obsessed" phase with Scotland. (Post on that going live next week - ha!)

    Happy almost Friday!

  3. I love that coat! Very classy! 52 books in 10 months? Way past my quota, but I don't read as fast as you do! Have you had a chance to wear the dress you bought in Mpls? I thought it was so cute!

  4. Love the new jacket! And nice job on reading 8 books this past month. I haven't read any of those, so I will have to check them out :)

  5. So glad you had a good month! October is a special time to be in the south. It's not nearly as cold as MN is, we get no snow, and the leaves are beautiful especially in the mountains. You got to see the beauty of the mountains and the peacefulness of the coast this month. That makes me very happy for you. Summer was weird, winter won't be miserably cold - you might not even need that coat - but October is usually perfect here.

  6. I think I start every monthly recap post with "I can't believe it's the end of the month!" Sigh. Time flies. :)

You read Anna and the French Kiss! I loved that novel. Such a sweet little YA romance.

Love the coat! Will be perfect for Paris!

  7. The coat is super adorable. Just talking about coats in Chicago made me pull out my wool coat this week when it got chilly. I typically just throw on my black Marmot jacket since we're pretty casual here in Oregon, but wearing a nice looking and feeling jacket feels good too. I could definitely use another as I really only have one camel and one black wool jacket.

  8. You are amazing with your book reading and I just added two of your books to my "to read" list :) haha.
I completely agree about Miley Cyrus but I have occasionally liked her songs- while hating her.
Love the new coat! I am a real sucker for coupons at the moment... sucking me in time after time haha

  9. VERY cute coat! And 52 book? I was feeling smug because I just may make it to 25 by the end of the year! Well, I'm just going to pretend you had lots of time to read in airplanes while you were getting miles!

  10. Adorable coat! I need to upgrade my winter coat this year - I haven't bought a new one since 2009! My friend is a spin instructor and she's always talking about what a great workout it is. I get a discount at the Y with my new job and have been thinking of checking out a class.

  12. I'm so glad you bought that coat - especially after you said you STILL think about the coat you didn't buy over 3 years ago! Haha.

I also strongly dislike Miley Cyrus herself but enjoy a lot of her songs. They are just super catchy!

  13. I've only been in a Banana Republic once in my life ... they don't have a store here or anywhere near here!

  14. I like that coat! I don't think you can ever have enough coats and shoes; they are timeless! Hopefully it gets cold enough to wear it often!
