Music, Books, Miles, and Looks of December

Woo hoo!  It's 2014!!

Music:

Make Me Crazy by Keri Noble - This is another song that I was introduced to by a compilation album that a Minneapolis radio station releases each year.  The vocals in this song are amazing!

Books:

I finished off the year with another super strong month of reading, thanks to my Paris trip and the many flights I took this month. My favorite book was The Little Way of Ruthie Leming; my least favorite was The Death of Bees.

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes - 3 stars
The Little Way of Ruthie Leming by Rod Dreher - 5 stars
The Consolation of the Forest by Sylvain Tesson - 3 stars
The Death of Bees by Lisa O'Donnell - 3 stars
The Supreme Macaroni Company by Adriana Trigiani - 3 stars
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion - 4 stars
Lowcountry Boil by Susan Boyer - 3 stars
The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) - 4 stars
Gastien:  The Cost of a Dream by Caddy Rowland - 3 stars
The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure - 4 stars
Orpahn Train by Christina Baker Kline - 4 stars
I'll Be Seeing You by Suzanne Palmieri-Hayes - 4 stars

Miles:

I will probably start to track my bike and elliptical miles, but I didn't start doing that this month.  I got in a decent number of workouts, except for when I was home for Christmas and my only workout was playing DDR with my nephews.  I didn't clock a lot of miles on my feet, but I flew a lot of miles, as I flew back from Paris, had work trips to Denver and Houston, flew to NYC for a weekend, and flew home to Fargo, ND for Christmas.  I made Silver on 2 airlines this year and flew a total of 70 flights - which is a lot compared to the 30 I flew last year!

Looks:

I didn't wear anything noteworthy in December, but I did buy some Hunter brand boots when I was in NYC, which you can see in this picture.  It was cold & snowy that day, so I am bundled up and am rocking a white girl 'fro in that photo but I still love that photo as it was magical to see that tree in person. I still need to recap my NYC trip - I ran out of time as life was so hectic after I got back between a work trip and my trip home for Christmas!  But I'll do a belated recap tomorrow!

  1. I love your monthly recaps because I can always listen to your lovely music picks while I read the rest of the post :) Also I love that photo- I maintain that most people do not look that good when they are freezing and all bundled in outerwear ha ha.

Here's to you having a 2014 that is the complete OPPOSITE of 2013! Wahoo.

  3. I agree with Kelly, you have the best taste in music and always have something good up on your monthly posts!

Whoa girl! You read a lot! I need to figure out how to squeeze more reading into my life. I think I'm going to start reading more on the treadmill. I did that yesterday and the time flew!

    Happy New Year!!!

  4. Wow! That is a ton of flying! I'm hoping to finish one novel in English and get half way through one in Spanish on my flights over the next few days.

  5. I know you fly a lot, but that's a ton of books, my friend!

I started doing some spinning classes so I'll be getting in a few miles -- probably not like you, though! Rick gave me a gym membership for Christmas! Fingers are crossed!

    Happy New Year!

  6. Happy New Year! You were a reading machine, which is fantastic. I hope this year brings better reading for myself.

  7. 70 flights is just pure insanity. WOW!

Here's to leaving 2013 firmly behind us, and looking forward to a much, much better 2014. May it be filled with a relocation to a city you love, a wonderful job offer, and TONS OF HAPPINESS for you!

  8. Happy New Year Lisa! Sending lots of good ju-ju for your 2014 to be 1000x better than 2013. I know the injury was a major letdown and PITA, but if not for it we might never have connected. Thank you for being there for me and also for nerding out about books and Paris. :) Looking forward to keeping in touch.

  9. I really liked The Rosie Project. Really quirky, but still funny :)

  10. Girrrrl, you don't have anything on this white girl's fro! The only difference is, yours is cute enough to show in public, while mine must be hidden in a messy bun or under a hat (or paper bag, if necessary)! =) Also, I kind of love Hunter boots, but I only know TALL gals who wear them and think they'd be more like mid-thigh boots on me. hahaha.

  11. 70 flights is insane!!! I don't know how you do it as I hate flying. But I know you have gotten used to it and rarely have layover (that part kills me!! I love your coat in the picture. Adorable!

  12. My coworker got a smokin' deal on a pair of hunter boots on Boxing Day and they are SO CUTE. I think I might invest in some before our trip to Ireland because I think they would be great for the climate over there! Do you wear yours lots?? I wasn't a huge fan of them before because they looked a bit too much like "gum boots" to me but my coworkers are really cute!

70 flights is A LOT. Holy!

  14. I agree with Kelly; I always listen to the song while reading the rest of the post... it's great! You are right; the vocals are amazing, even on my tinny computer speakers!

I love your "fro" look! It's the natural winter look and it's fun! Winter is about beanies and frizzy hair (or maybe that is just me/mine?) anyway! It means you are tough enough to go outside; you are not sitting inside with smooth hair sipping on a fruity drink.
