I'm just over a week away from my big move date (May 17th) so I thought I'd do a Charlotte themed 5 things Friday!
5 Things I won't miss about Charlotte (it was tough to limit it to 5. Ha):
1. The ridiculously aggressive drivers. I've never been cut off or tailed so much in my life. I get that it's the land of NASCAR but yikes, the level of aggressive driving is insane. And I am not the only person to notice this - fellow colleagues who have moved here said the same thing.
2. Their confusing road system and lack of freeways. The street I live on changes names about 3 times in the span of 2 miles. It goes from Morehead to Queen to Providence. WHY. And it happens all the time. Another road I often drive goes from Park to Kennilworth to Stonewall in the span of 2-3 miles, too. It's so needlessly confusing.
3. The smokers that hang out on the running path. Did I mention that the hospital where they work is A CANCER CENTER??? Oh the irony. On my last run in Charlotte I might just freaking LOSE IT on them.
4. People commenting on the fact that they can't believe I don't like Charlotte and their disbelief that anyone would actually want to live in Minnesota.
5. My loud apartment building. From the drunk people on their patios to the loud music to the people who banged on my door at 3 am one night - I won't miss any of it. At all.
5 Things I will miss about Charlotte (it was tough to come up with 5. Ha):
1. The friends I made down here and the one good friend I had (Lori) when I move down here. One couple has been especially nice about inviting me to do things, and I have made some friends through work. I will miss them and appreciate the support they all gave me over the last year.
2. Being driving distance from Asheville and the mountains in general.
3. My rheumatologist. It will be hard to find someone that I like as much as her. She was so kind and compassionate, and she got me back to a healthy, active state.
4. The Dogwood trees during spring. I think we have these back home but I feel like they do not bloom as vibrantly as the trees in Charlotte did.
5. Cabo Fish Taco. I do really love their tacos.
What's on your mind today? Any fun plans for the weekend? I actually do not have any plans which I am OK with as the last several weeks have been filled with good bye lunches and dinners. I need a little break from socializing. And I need to pack!
This post made me laugh. I'm impressed that you managed to find 5 things you will miss haha. Also if you do lose it on the smokers can you audio record yourself? I think that would be hilarious... Though seriously are they kidding? You work at a cancer center!!!
ReplyDeleteMax turns 4 months next Sat and I keep hearing about this 4 month sleep regression. Today he woke up 2 hours early so now I'm paranoid that this is it. I live in fear of lost sleep!
Would you mind punching the smokers by the cancer center for me? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOn my mind today: I'm wearing a striped shirt that has "c'est la vie," written on it in red. When I bought I thought of you. It's one of my favorite shirts :)
It has always amazed me at the number of hospital & nursing home staff who smoke! I truly don't understand!
ReplyDeleteI think there are good & bad things about every city or state, but what draws us to want to live in those areas is more in the heart than in the head. We can "exist" almost anywhere, but to truly "live" brings a whole new dimension to the plan! The old saying "home is where the heart is" is so true! MN here you come! HOME AT LAST!
Our weekend isn't super busy, but I will do a few runs and yoga as well as a work meeting tomorrow. Sunday, we will go to my parent's house for a BBQ for Mother's Day, which will be fun. My parents are also getting a new puppy today (8 week old husky) that I can't wait to meet! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHaha love this post. I'm glad you were able to come up with five things that you will miss though - supportive friends will definitely be hard to leave!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely have nothing else on my mind but my trip today. Glad it's a quieter day in my office as I'm super checked out but at the same time being super productive and wrapping a bunch of stuff up!
Oh, gosh, those 5 things you won't miss about Charlotte are some really, really bad things! I am so glad you're finding your way out of there.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your move is so soon! Yay, yay, yay!
I enjoyed reading this. I know how rough Charlotte has been on you, so I'm glad you could leave with at least 5 good things coming out of it (even if they were tough to come up with!!!!!).
ReplyDeleteOur weekend consists of celebrating Jason's birthday, attending our niece's First Holy Communion and hopefully spending lots of time in the sun! We finally have temps in the 80s and beautifully weather in these parts and I couldn't be happier about it. Welles just loves to play outside and I think the Vitamin D is doing so much for my soul :)
Oh---and I agree! If you go postal on the run trail smokers---please record it! Ha :)
A good list. I'm glad you could find some good because it means that it wasn't a total waste. The smoker thing -- ridiculous! That would be my number one yuck.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I'm cleaning for company coming for a few days and still trying to get over the crud. Not exciting -- but it'll be a nice tidy house!
I think it's awesome that you found five things you will miss about Charlotte. In addition to always being shocked at the number of people in the medical profession that smoke, I am also always shocked at how many are overweight.
ReplyDeleteNot too much going on this weekend. The next 2 are jam packed though so I'm not complaining!
Fun post!!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend we're headed out to a black tie fundraiser with tasty food and dancing!!
I'm so ready for summer becaues I have so much crazy end of school year crap to wrap up along with my recertification crap but I'm scared because I like to preplan our summer a bit and I'm not having a lot of extra time to do that, read, blog and ya know do my roles as mother/wife/house owner! Can't wait to hear about your road trip home with your mom.
ReplyDeleteI actually think of Charlotte as filled with a bunch of ex-New Yorkers who moved down there for banking-related opportunities. You can blame them for aggressive driving. I found most North Carolinians to be terrible drivers in the "I'm gonna slam on my brake because I think that light might turn yellow" kind of way. ha
ReplyDeleteHave you asked your rheumatologist if she has any recommendations in Minneapolis? You never know where her network might take you. =)
The streets to the same name change things in Baton Rouge... so maybe it's a Southern thing? At first it confused me all the time. And now.. well I'll say it's better but I'm still ridiculous directionally challenged. But at least I get lost less than I used to.
