Music, Books, Miles and Looks

Oh hey, it's August.  That's crazy. But I don't know anyone who is thinking, 'gosh this year is going slow' so I guess I am not alone in thinking the year is going by fast - maybe too fast.  July was a blur.  I fit a lot in so it's not surprising that it flew by!

Music:

Photograph by Ed Sheeran - I couldn't find a good live version of this song, so this is the version from the album.  I love a lot of the songs from his new album but this is one of my favorites!

Boyce Avenue covering What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction - I was introduced to this cover artist by a yoga instructor.  He tends to cover pop songs, but slows them down to a different pace.

Books:

When I went back to look at how many books I read this month, I was actually surprised that I read 3 as it felt like I barely read during the month of July.  My weekends and week nights have been so busy that I just don't make time to read like I did in the past (see how I didn't say I don't have time to read?  I don't like it when people say they don't have time for things).  I miss reading on a more frequent basis but don't see life slowing down anytime soon so the second half of 2014 might just be a slower reading season for me!

Sullivan's Island by Dorothea Benton Frank - 3 stars
On the Island by Tracy Garvis-Graves - 3 stars
Painting the Moon by Traci Borum - 3 stars

Miles:

You guys!  I had a 100+ mileage month for the first time since September of 2012!!  That is huge for me! I ran about 118 miles last month which is a big increase over last month when I ran about 78 miles!  The reason for the mileage increase is that run club started up again in July so all of my runs are longer than they were when I was logging miles alone.  I also surpassed my goal of doing 31 workouts in 31 days as I did 33 workouts!  I'm on a 4-month streak of meeting my workout-a-day goal!

Looks:

One of my favorite outfits of the month is this head-to-toe Banana Republic outfit.  The pants are cream but have a texture to them which makes them different/fun.  The top is kind of obnoxiously bright but I heart pink so figured I can pull it off.

Outfit #2 is another head-to-toe BR look. When will this company start paying me for all the marketing I do for them??  This shirt actually made last month's post, but I am including it again this month as I paired it with a new pencil skirt that I got for 1/2 off.  I love that I pretty much get everything 40-50% off at Banana.

Lastly, my stitch fix top made my list of favorite looks.  And what do you know, I'm wearing it with another slightly different khaki skirt (which is from Banana!).  My closet is so diverse, I know.

  2. You are doing AWESOME on the miles! So impressive :)

I read 4 books in July which is pretty good/about average for me. My favorite was Eleanor and Park. I hope to read maybe 5 in August just because I know reading will majorly slow down for me in September, especially because Max is eating faster which means less reading time. I'm hoping I choose to make time for it after Max goes to bed, but I still only have about an hour before I go to bed (which is a huge improvement from the spring though) so it might be spent cleaning and doing work unfortunately. We shall see!

  3. Woo great job with the mileage! I'm not even sure if I ran 18 miles in July soo 118 sounds unbelievable to me!

Love your looks, I think BR should definitely pay you since basically every month after reading your recaps I go to their website and shop haha.

  4. I too hate when people say they "don't have time". No you have time for xyz, you just choose not to do xyz with your time. Congrats on the mileage! I really need to step it up in the running department. I have just had a hard time getting back in the swing of things since vacation. I have been loving running in these cooler temps though!

  5. I agree about the "I don't have time for..." but sometimes you don't. And it's one thing if you're stuck with doing bad stuff during the time you have, but I'd say you've been using your non-work time for fun, running, friends -- all the good things. So give yourself a pass, at least for now! And a pat on the back for all those miles. A year ago when you were in such pain and in the boot, would you have every believed you would run like that again? (And the new looks rock!)

  6. I love the clothes - especially the first outfit! It is always fun to find them at that price, too!

It is true that we "don't make time" to do the things we should, and I have certain things that I make time for, which leaves less time to do the things I enjoy, like reading! Summer is a time to get outside and enjoy the weather, so that is paramount as I know what is coming!

  7. Way to go on over 100 miles! I'm so inspired by you! I managed 75 miles in July (my highest month ever) but if I complete all my scheduled runs in August I'll be at 104 miles. I love all your looks from July. Banana Republic is one place I've never shopped but I love your sense of style and all of the outfits you post so I may have to check it out sometime. It's awesome that you get so many great deals there! You are the first person who has ever mentioned Boyce Avenue before - LOVE that stuff! I have loved some of his cover versions of original songs that I really don't like.

  12. I love that pink shirt! I don't think it's obnoxiously bright at all. It looks great on you and is a perfect colour for summer! YAY for such a big mileage month - that is actually huge! I ran 133 miles last July and that was my peak month for my 50km training, so you are really logging some impressive mileage!

  14. Way to go on your mileage this month! Isn't it crazy how far you've come since this time last year?!

I am working on building a capsule wardrobe and I might start perusing the Banana Republic website. I love all the outfits you post from there!

  17. I wish there was a Banana Republic anywhere near me ... I don't even know where the closest one is (probably an 8 hour drive away). I think I could find a lot of nice work clothes there.
