Here's what currently going on in my world these days!
Reading: "Redeployment" by Phil Klay. I'm a little nervous to read this one as it's about war and the experiences of soldiers on the battle field as well as when they return home so I know it's going to be a heavier read. That said, I've heard great things about this book and it won the National Book Award for fiction so I'm using it for that category of the Bookriot read harder challenge.
Loving: the barre classes I have been taking. They are so challenging but I know they are going to strengthen some of my muscles that need attention, like my hips, glutes, and the muscles/tendons in my ankles.
Thinking: about getting a subscription to ClassPass this summer. I like how I would have access to multiple studios so I could do a variety of things from spin to yoga to barre. I just need to figure out if I can go often enough to justify the cost... Granted I'm going to be pretty busy between marathon and triathlon training so it might make sense to get a subscription over the fall/winter.
Frustrated: with the weather. I know that it could be so much worse as we could get a blizzard this time of year but I'm kind of over these 30-40 degree temps and the snow we got on Sunday was just depressing. I'd love it if the weather would warm back up into the 60s!
Feeling: the itch to take a big trip to either Europe or maybe somewhere in South America like Argentina. My year is kind of filling up with small trips, though, so I'm thinking it might be best to wait and go somewhere as a 35th birthday present to myself.
Anticipating: a massage on Saturday afternoon and a haircut on Tuesday evening. I'm planning to chop off quite a few inches as I'm tired of the length!
Watching: season 3 of House of Cards but feeling like this season is a bit of a dud. We are sticking with it but it just doesn't hold our attention as much as the other 2 seasons did.
Sad: that my landlord has decided to sell the condo I am renting from him. I love my condo so much and was hoping to stay here for another year. There is another condo available in the building that has the same floor plan and faces the river but the thought of moving honestly depresses and overwhelms me. I just hate moving so much. The winds of change just don't seem to stop blowing in my life! And I realize that it could be worse - I feel fortunate that there is another unit in the building that I can move into that's comparable to my current unit. It's just an inconvenience I wasn't anticipating. And I'm 34 - I'm too old be moving this often. This will be my 3rd move in just over 2 years.
Working: on another closet purge. I got rid of quite a bit of stuff over the winter but now that we are changing seasons, I'm looking over my clothes and getting rid of any 'winter' clothing that I did not wear. Knowing that I will be moving in about 8 weeks increases my motivation to purge...
Grateful: that I have the financial means to go on all the small trips I'm taking this year, such as trips to Colorado in May, DC in August (to be planned but it will happen), Kamloops, BC in September and Miami in October.
Listening: to Ghost by Mat Kearney on repeat. It's a really sad song but I love songs that make you feel something. I heart Mat Kearney so much. I'm so bummed that I didn't get to see him when he was in Minneapolis earlier this month.
Wishing: that my parents would retire or had a time frame for when they would retire. They've worked so hard so many years and I'd like to see them rest and enjoy the fruits of their labor. (Hi mom, I know this is none of my business but it's something all of us kids wish for.)
What are you anticipating, loving, and grateful for?
Perhaps ClassPass over the winter would be a good idea - it might rescue you from those days when the weather shuts you inside.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to do the bike share program this summer? (Or did you buy a bike, I can't remember). If so, I vote the ClassPass over the fall/winter as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for all your little trips this year, especially as they seem to mostly be for fun and not work! And a big trip for 35? Sounds delightful!
I'm with you on House of Cards - more of a dud season indeed. That SUCKS about moving. Sucks, sucks, sucks! Feel free to text me ragey or whiny things about it anytime, because really. UGH.
I'm anticipating/loving/grateful for Lemon! After our ultrasound yesterday I'm sooooo excited to meet him I can't wait! I'm like "am I in labor yet? How about now? Now?" Ha!
Wouldn't it be great to turn in our retirement notice to the company and say goodbye! When you own your own business, there are so many considerations and things that have to fall into place to keep the business afloat, including our retirement funding! How we wish it wasn't so complicated and that we had a bigger field of possible employees to take over the financial management of the business. Living in a small town really makes it difficult. But we don't stop praying for an exit!
ReplyDeleteI know how difficult moving is and all that it entails and pray it goes smoothly!
The nice thing about class pass in the summer is you can explore areas better, and if you have to walk a ways (a lot of the small studios don't have big parking lots) its not quite so painful when it's nice out! I hate moving (and am going to be doing it soon) so I feel your pain, I would definitely move across to the other unit, unless you are ready for a new area.
ReplyDeleteMy parents are in the process of "retiring" selling their current business, although I find it hard to believe my dad won't have some sort of job. Hence the soon to be moving for me!
I've been trying to decide what I want to do with my workouts once my gym membership ends in April. I may join a cheaper gym .. but I've been thinking about trying out ClassPass, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the family retirement situation! Same boat for my dad and our little small business. It's a lot to consider and work on/towards.
ReplyDeleteI have zero encouraging words about moving because I loathe it as well.
Have you considered buying a condo? It is so obvious how much you love where you are living (I know you DESPISED Charlotte...lol, right??? MN is where it is at!) But, seriously, why not make an investment into your future? Just curious since you are in finance! ;)
ReplyDeleteCome to Scotland! Or somewhere near Scotland where . Could maybe meet you (I can fly to most of Europe in the time it takes to get the train to London).
ReplyDeleteI also hate moving. We are in the process of looking for our 'forever house'. The thought of packing and moving all our books makes me want to cry.

Redeployment is sitting on my coffee table. I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm interested to hear what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better, we got snow in NYC on Friday and more snow in Chicago on Monday. Ugh.
Bummer about needing to move, again. The silver lining: you've purged your belongings a number of times so that you're down to the things you really use/want versus things you just own.
I'm anticipating my parents' visit to Chicago in April. It was fun seeing them in NY over the weekend and I know Gavin is excited to see them again. I'm loving this season of The Voice. And, I'm grateful for having the means to travel to see family and friends in cities outside of Chicago.
Oh, goodness. I am so sorry you have to move again! Moving is such a pain. And so much expense! That’s what I mostly hate about it – the expense. The physical act is fine… I’ve moved 20+ times in my life so I’m an old pro at it, haha. But I can understand wanting to settle down your roots.
ReplyDeleteCurrently anticipating my trip to Savannah this weekend, loving apartment hunting with my friend, and grateful for a job that keeps me busy and happy.
Sounds like a mix but mostly good, except for the darned move. I can see where you might not want to purchase the condo now (if ever) but the thought of moving is rugged. Well, maybe it won't sell for a long while!
ReplyDeleteUgh, totally sucks that you are going to have to move again. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAlso with you on the weather. It was sunny and 35 today and it felt like summer compared to what it's been like. We also had snow over the weekend. If I have to put any age child in another flipping pair of gloves I might freak out. haha.
I should be positive now. Yay for all your upcoming trips!
That stinks that you have to move again :( But at least it's in the same building. Would you want to buy the condo you are renting or is that not an option right now? (I know you have your other condo as well). Looking forward to seeing your hair!
ReplyDeleteUg, I can't believe that (1) you have to move again and (2) that it's already been a year since you moved before!! I know you are a pro at it by now though and will get it done quickly. Also, thank goodness there is another unit available in the same building!
ReplyDeleteI may be moving some time in the next few months, but still have not figured it all out. Luckily, I never really moved my stuff to where I am now, since I never thought I would be here for that long! When I do move, it will not be that many things... However, the downside is that I will have to buy a lot of stuff, since I gave away most of my furniture when I left San Francisco years ago!
Such a bummer about moving!! I definitely do not miss moving and would never wish for it, though I do remember being A LOT better about purging stuff when we moved often. We just did a massive purge of our house (and have more to do still) and I cannot believe all the stuff we've been holding onto that we do not need!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for your visit!!! I am grateful for my job, anticipating our trip to Maui and loving Sunday morning gym dates with Eric!
That sucks that you will have to move again :-( What a sweet wish you have for your parents.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Europe or South America ... in fact I've never left North America! I'd love to go somewhere further away by the time I'm 35 or for my 35th birthday as well!!
I am also liking barre and hoping I can find a groupon for one soon. I did find a closer studio where your first class is free so hoping to do that next week.
ReplyDeleteI hope we can see one another this year for some quality girl time! Those trips are so important with friendship.
I can't wait to see your new hair style! I have always loved how you looked with shorter hair. I am actually thinking of getting my cut as well.
Mom told me about your move when I called her the other night :( I'm so so so sorry, Lisa! Ugh!!! Moving sucks.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry about your weather. So bizarre. I was on the phone with this drug company on the east coast today...and he started complaining about snow, and it honestly boggled my MIND since it hit 90 today!!!
If you take a South American trip, keep your sister in the loop! We are looking for any and all opportunities to scuba!! So a trip to Belize is in our 5 year plan ;)
My dad retired and was retired for 6 months and then started working part-time for like 3 different jobs ha. I am very jealous of their beach pictures this week though! The long winter caused us to plan 4 summer camping trips ha. So our travel this year was west michigan spring break tour, camping at higgins lake, camping at clear lake, camping at ludington (lake michigan), and camping at port crescent (saginaw bay/lake huron). I also have a bachlorette party next month out of town to go to. I'd really like to take a just husband and me trip but not sure it is in the cards for this year. i may try to get grandparents to watch the kiddo for one of our camping trips as we are going with my bff and her soon to be husband so it could possibly be a childfree affair. i think we are doing savannah for next spring break and puerto rico is on our agenda as well... who knows when.
