Little Letters
Kyria did a post like this last week and I thought it was a fun concept, so I am playing along with my own set of little letters:
Dear body: Let's get through this 10 mile race on Saturday and after that, I promise to never sign up for a March race ever again.
Dear cold: You've overstayed your welcome. I'm tired of sniffling, sneezing, and coughing. Go away.
Dear March: I know you are a volatile month that usually contains snow and cold temperatures but maybe this is the year that you should be unseasonably nice. Please? I'd love it if tomorrow was the last day with a high in the single digits.
Dear humidity: Please come back. I miss you dearly. Without you around, it's shockingly painful (literally) to turn on light switches and lamps. My skin misses you, too.
Dear conference planners: 75 minutes is too long for a presentation. No one wants to listen to anyone drone on about a topic for 75 minutes.
Dear North Carolina: Why are you so slow at processing tax returns? I'd like my refund back in a timely manner. Your standard of 6 weeks to process a return is ridiculous in my opinion.
Dear Minnesota: I love you, I really do, but I am reminded that love is a choice during winter because it is very hard to keep loving you when your weather is so horribly cold.
Dear people who say "at least you aren't living in Charlotte": I know. I'm so glad I am not living in Charlotte anymore, but is this going to forever be a rebuttal I'll have to put up with when I complain about something? What's the statute of limitations on comments like this? I hope it's not much longer than a year.
Dear coffee: Thanks for making my mornings infinitely better than they would be without you.
Dear parents and grandparents: Thank you for fostering my love of reading. I can't imagine my life without this hobby.
OK, your turn - what little letters would you write?
Dear feet, I am trying to take care of you but it would help if you could cooperate when you are needed.
ReplyDeleteDear memory, please remember to order a new sports bra soon for everyones sake.
Dear spring break, hurry up and get here.
Dear husband, you should take me on a trip, just the two of us to a beach. a very nice and warm beach.
Dear sleet and snow coming my way, F U!
Dear preschoolers, please be good on our field trip today.
Dear beer in the fridge, Stay cold, I'mcoming to you after 4pm.
How fun! (And ugh to the long NC processing time and the Charlotte comments. Enough already!)
ReplyDeleteDear nose: I get that during pregnancy it's normal to fluctuate between congested and bloody and I feel like I've been handling this with somewhat good patience. However, if you don't go back to normal the MINUTE I have this baby there will be hell to pay.
Dear body: I know, I KNOW you're tired. But seven weeks (or less!) to go - you're doing such a good job growing this little man and I am PROUD of you!
Dear bed: Thank you for being so comfortable - even on the mornings when I oversleep I'm not mad at ya!
I am SO with you on the "dear cold". Grrr..I have had a sore throat, cough and/or body aches for about 2 weeks now! Go away!
ReplyDeleteDear flights -- I wish you were cheaper. I have places to go and people to see!
Dear Mom -- I know I haven't called you in a while, but I still love you! Sorry about that. Your daughter.
Dear appetite -- Where did you come from and why won't you tone it down a bit!? I do NOT need a whole can of peanuts at 8 pm!
What a fun idea! I may have to borrow at some point :) I am sure you will do great this weekend. I hope your cold goes away in time! And really, people say "at least you aren't in Charlotte" ??? As if the rest of your entire life will be absolutely perfect because you are in MN and not NC! That's crazy.
ReplyDeleteThat was fun!
ReplyDeleteI should participate!
Dear Winter- Why do you insist on trying to make me hate a city I love? You and I are mortal enemies you stupid jerk.
ReplyDeleteDear Body- I am trying really, really hard. I'm going to Crossfit 4 days a week and now doing the mile a day challenge. If you could show me even the tiniest sign that your changing that's be great.
*you're
ReplyDeleteOh man, I feel like I've lucked out in not getting that sick this winter. I got pretty sick when we were in Chicago, but after that I've managed to ward off sickness.
ReplyDeleteDear Lauren, It's time to buckle down on that baby book because your little one will be here in 12-13 weeks!
Dear body, I trust you'll bounce back pretty strongly after this even though pregnancy is the biggest, most challenging change you've ever undergone.
Dear wine, I can't wait to drink you again.
Dear running, I'm really missing you and our usual relationship.
Dear trails, I'm so ready to explore you again.
Dear career, I know you'll work yourself out, but right now you're really terrifying me. I'm trusting that the universe knows what its doing and the addition of this little baby will help us figure it all out.
Such a cute "little" idea. Sucks that NC is giving you one last rib jab, as if they haven't already kicked you enough when you were (living) down (there). My letters, oh goodness, where do I begin...
ReplyDeleteDear weather, feel free to warm up just enough so I can return to running outside.
Dear brain, please motivate to workout no matter what it's doing outside.
Dear body, please remember how much you enjoyed that CorePower Yoga class last weekend; it would be a great Saturday morning tradition (but, you have to go to more than one class to make it so!).
Dear Sweets, please heal your knee soon; and then consider retiring from soccer for good.
Dear in-laws, thank you for jumping on my surprise-Sweets-for-his-40th bandwagon; your child care is key to pulling off this surprise!
Oh my gosh, I love this idea!! You'll be seeing this on my blog soon fo sho!
ReplyDeleteAlso ...
ReplyDeleteDear snacks, I'm hungry. Come find me.
I seriously do not know what I'd do without reading either. Best hobby ever.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Charlotte you suck and people who say "at least you aren't in Charlotte" also suck. Sorry, but really. Just say yes it does suck, because it does.
If I wrote a letter to the weather it would not be as nice and there may be some inappropriate words.
All very fine answers! Here are mine.
ReplyDeleteDear Back and Hip -- Please tell me what I did to you so I don't do it again -- and while you're at it, please stop hurting.
Dear Lizzie, I don't appreciate it when you hurl on the light-colored carpet.
Dear Snow. Go. Please Go.
Dear Book. Please don't end, I really like you.
Dear Book Club, please pick a better book next time. Like the one I'm reading now.
Dear PBS. Thank you for your shows. I hope you can figure out a way to shorten the pledge breaks.
Dear Downton Abbey, I love you. Please come back soon...
This is fun! I am going to steal this idea!
ReplyDeleteIs it hurting to turn on light switches because of your RA? I'm sure the cold hurts it :( Arg, I hope it warms up asap!
The "at least you're not in Charlotte" thing has got to get old and annoying. I'm sorry :(. I kind of experience a similar statement of "at least Ryan's home now" - no matter what I'm frustrated about. I could be talking about my knee hurting, and I feel like someone would respond, "Well, at least Ryan's home!" lol
75 minutes is WAY too long for a presentation. To listen to, and definitely to present! Ouch! -- Hey, at least you're not in Charlotte, any more! (JUST KIDDING. Seriously. That was pure sarcasm mocking the annoyance of some people.)
Ugh, I hope you get your tax return processed soon. That is no fun to deal with!
ReplyDeleteHm... my letters:
Dear movie theater concierge: thank you so much for carding me at the movie. It made me feel good knowing I look at least 10 years younger than I actually am!
Dear time: Please hurry up so I can be in Savannah sooner!
Dear Florida "winter": I am so grateful to you. ;)
Dear March, please go by quickly so I can be on vacation!
ReplyDeleteDear CRA, please process our tax returns quickly so we can get the money before we go on vacation!
And I agree with the last one, so grateful my parents fostered my love of reading when I was young. It's definitely my favourite hobby lately.
What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteRight now, mine would be asking the sun where it is, telling this week to go a little faster and also asking my body to be ok with the amount of sleep I'm getting (I'm oh so tired lately. I can't get snap out of it!)
That's another great post idea/list! Definitely agree on the coffee sentiment :)
