Meet Oscar!

On Friday, Phil got to bring home his new kitten!  Meet Oscar the cat!

He's a fluffy, orange cat that we are already so in love with.  He came from a litter of 7.  Phil knew he wanted a boy, and orange cats are typically boys (which is something I learned - I think it's so interesting that gender and fur color are linked).  There were 3 unclaimed orange cats, so on Friday afternoon we drove down to a farm in southeastern Minnesota where they were born to pick out our kitten.

The 3 orange kittens were all so cute, but we were drawn to the fluffiest of the 3.

The other 2 orange cats were going to homes in Minneapolis, so we took all three back with us.  We timed our departure perfectly as the kittens started to nap when we were leaving.

Oscar (the one sleeping) with his brothers
We felt a little guilty separating Oscar from his brothers but I know he's going to be happy at Phil's house.

On Friday morning, Phil's co-workers threw him a "cat shower" so there were lots of goodies waiting at home for Oscar.  Phil's love for cats is something that is very well-known so I am not too surprised that his co-workers got him some gifts.  Plus he works at a very close-knit company (I'm envious of his work environment).

Oscar lived outside at the farm but so far he's acclimating well to being an indoor cat.  He's a little tentative/shy but I am sure he'll warm up to us as he gets more used to his environment.  Phil introduced him to his first toy and he loved it.

I'm so excited that Phil has a cat of his own now!

Do you have any pets?  We had a cat when I was in high school but he was an outdoor cat so this will be my first experience with an indoor pet!

  1. Awww, Oscar is adorable!! I love that photo of him and his brothers. I had no idea that orange cats are male. I love that Phil's coworkers gave him a cat shower, that is so sweet!

  2. Oscar is super cute! He is going to be a great addition to Phil's house!

I always had cats growing up, but they were always outdoor cats as well. They pretty much did whatever they wanted during the day and then would come in and sleep at night. My parents have a cat now and it's actually just the opposite; they put him out at night and he hangs out inside during the day. It makes it a lot easier; you don't ever have to clean a litterbox. That will be a fun task for you to learn!

  3. What a cutie! When I was 7 I had a marmalade cat like Oscar. I named him Pickles.

  5. Oscar is way too adorable and SO reminds me of my marmelade Gypsy! If he is half the love the Gypsy was, he will have a cat that forever rank number one on the kitty scale of "Best Pets Ever."

I think the idea of the shower is GREAT! I'll have to remember that in case I know someone starting out their life as a pet owner!

  6. I love that Phil's coworkers threw him a cat shower! How awesome.

Oscar is ADORABLE. Ugh, I cannot get enough of that sweet kitty face.

I've never owned a cat, I've been a dog owner my whole life! Dogs are probably 100x the work of a cat, haha, but I'm just a dog person and couldn't imagine my life without a pet in it! They make life so much sweeter. :)

  7. Oh he is so cute! How exciting/fun for you guys! I used to have a kitty right out of college but when I moved to Chicago she retired with my parents instead of trekking across the country with me. I miss having a cat to snuggle :)

  12. He's so cute! And I love how Phil's coworkers had a shower for him.

Growing up we pretty much always had pets but now we have none. Although the boy would live to get a dog, so we'll see when that happens.

  17. Awwwwwwe, Oscar is so cute!! I love the name too; if I had a son, I'd consider that name. Adorable!

I had a lot of pets growing up. From 0-7 years I lived on a farm, so we had a bunch of animals. When we moved to the city we had a dog, and also a hamster at one point.

As an adult I don't want any pets though ... too much responsibility for us, haha!

  18. Oscar is such a cutie-pie! I love cats and I have 2 indoor cats but we have a balcony that they get out onto and one loves to sleep in the strawberry bed ha. I love that Phil got a cat shower and I think that should be a thing.
