TGIF

Happy Friday!  Woo, this week went by fast but I am not complaining as I am always happy when Friday rolls around!  Here is how my week shaped up!

The high of my week was seeing Phil on Tuesday after 5 days apart!  It was nice to spend a quiet night in together.  We went for a run and made dinner which is my ideal night!

The low of my week was finding out that Phil's mom had to put her cat down.  Daisy was in their family for many years so it is hard on Phil, too.  Losing a family pet is so sad.  :(  Plus his mom is a widow so I worry about how much more lonely she will feel without Daisy around to keep her company.

A book I am reading is Circling the Sun by Paula McLain. I read and loved her first book, The Paris Wife, so I had to check this one out.  So far it's been interesting and good!

A recipe I made was Southwestern Chicken & Rice Skillet, which is a weeknight stand by for us since it's so easy to make and requires things I tend to have on hand!  It's an Iowa Girl Eat's kind of week for us as tonight I'm making her Vegetable Ragu recipe and on Sunday I'm planning to make her mini BBQ Cheddar Meatloaves to bring for lunches next week.

For my workouts, I rested on Monday since I was sore from the trail race on Sunday, ran with Phil on Tuesday and my club on Wednesday, did a shoulders/back strength training workout on Thursday, and today I will rest again.  Tomorrow I have my last long run of 22 miles (GULP!) before tapering begins and on Sunday I'm hoping to fit in a bike ride.

The best money I spent was on the Pumpkin Spice Latte that I will treat myself to this morning on my way into work!

My plans this weekend include staying in with Phil tonight, running a ton of miles tomorrow morning, then dashing to a friend's baby shower afterwards. In the evening we are going to a friend's birthday party which is a brat and corn feed (how awesome is that?).  On Sunday I am meeting a friend for coffee and will hopefully get a chance to relax a lot since Saturday is a packed day!!!

Are you planning to make any new recipes this weekend?  What was the high of your week?

  1. Aw, isn't it nice to just crave a slow, relaxed evening? Man, I guess that means we're getting old. ;) Not sure if I'm making any new recipes this weekend, but I do want to try making her chili honey lime chicken thighs sometime soon. I love her recipes but rarely try them out.

  2. Sounds like a great week/weekend! I am driving up north friday, and down to iowa sunday, and then coming back to the cities sunday night...It's not an ideal situation, but nothing could be cancelled, so I just have to go with it!

  4. You have a busy weekend planned, and hope the 22 miles goes well! Won't be long and the Marathon will be behind you! Hang in there!
Besides doing lawn work, the only thing we have planned is to celebrate our 100th anniversary of our church in Wyndmere on Sunday. It will be a good day!
I love the recipes you are making - sound so delish!

  6. Am going to check out the BBQ Cheddar Meatloves recipe right now. Sounds delicious!

High of the week? Silly but I managed to stick to the dinner meal/cooking plan each night which is a big win for me. Helps us keep our budget in check and keeps the waist lines trim ;) Hope you have a lovely relaxing weekend. xo

  7. Your weekend sounds like a great balance between busy and relaxed!

I have nothing really planned but probably want to be productive and take the dogs out. Or leave my gimpy Bob at home since he had his claw torn a few weeks ago and it isn't healing!

  10. So sorry for Phil and his Mums loss, I'm a cat lover too and I know how hard this can be.

I watched the movie Julie and Julia recently and I've been mildly obsessed with Julia Child since then and after watching a couple of her videos on YouTube, I really want to have a go at making French onion soup.

  11. I really want a PSL but there are no Starbucks in my travels! WHAT THE WHAT??? In the town I live in, both of them are 20 minutes away. In the town I work in, its 20-25 minutes away and the only one IN that town! Hmpth. Maybe tomorrow I can grab one when I'm out doing grocery shopping!

I'm sorry to hear about Phil's mom's cat. Losing a family pet is so hard. <3

  13. Hope you're having a super relaxing day and recovering from that long run!! I worked Friday night and all day yesterday so today I slept in and woke up without an alarm, Eric and I took Chloe on a 40-minute hike and we're just getting ready to head to the gym soon! We'll spend this afternoon relaxing at home as I have another busy week at work ahead and tonight Eric is making me mexican food as a late birthday dinner!

So sorry to hear about Daisy :( That's so hard.

  14. Brats and corn sound delicious! I love laid back get togethers like that! My big recipe this weekend was no new one, just a pot of beans with fresh garden tomatoes and corn. I guess you could call it "chili"(ish). But it was nothing original....

I hope your long run went well yesterday! Are you ready for the big day? I paced a friend last night for the last 25 miles of his 100 mile race and I am taking it easy today, finally catching up on some things around the house, some reading and general relaxing! I have not had a weekend at home in... maybe 6 or 7 weeks?

  15. Sorry to hear about Phil's mom's cat - that' sad :-(

I can only drink PSL if they make it about 1/8 as sweet as they usually do. I find them unbearably sweet.

  16. I'm a little late to read this pot. I feel you on the seeing Phil after 5 days apart. I'm almost at 5 days myself and am feeling a little batty!

So sorry to hear about Phil's mom's cat. :/
