Currently: June

Whew, it's the last week of June! The year is nearly half over - say what? Here's what's currently going on in my life these days!

Reading:  Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson to fulfill the biography category of the Read Harder Challenge. I've heard that this books is very well-written and will make you see what a genius but total a-hole Steve Jobs was. It's a long one as it is 576 pages!

Loving: having a gas grill. We have already grilled multiple meals since we assembled the grill just over a week ago. I love how easy it is to grill proteins for my weekly salads and the minimal clean-up is a huge bonus!

Thinking: about where we should go for our next trip. I'm hoping we can get away for a long weekend in September, possibly to the Bend, Oregon area. We love hiking and being outdoors so it seems like the perfect area to visit.

Feeling:  more settled at Phil's now that the upstairs bedrooms are set up and photos are hung on the walls!

Anticipating: the long holiday weekend ahead of us! I'm heading up to the lake July 6-10th when all my siblings will be there, so we are staying home for the 4th of July weekend. We are hosting a small group of close friends for a BBQ on Sunday which I'm really looking forward to!

Watching: my garden grow. I am just amazed at how much it changes from day to day! Look at how it changed over the course of a week!

Working: out in more interesting ways than I was able to in the early post-op weeks. There's more variety to what I can do, which really helps. It's been great to bike outdoors instead of using the stationary bike and I've also been enjoying using the elliptical machine. Pre-surgery, I kind of hated the elliptical machine as I preferred to just run outdoors, but now that it's my only running'ish workout options, I'm loving it!

Grateful:  that all of my siblings will be together in July. We are a bit scattered so it is difficult to get everyone in the same place at the same time. I can't wait to see everyone!

Listening:  to the latest Adele album. She kicks off her North American tour in St. Paul next Tuesday and I'm going to the concert with a friend. I can't wait!!

Wishing: for beautiful, warm weather for our BBQ on Sunday and more warm weather for the days when I will be at the lake! I hope mother nature comes through for me!

What are you reading, anticipating, and grateful for these days?

  1. You're going to have the best time at the concert!!! That will be amazing!!! Crazy the changes in your garden in a week! Oh how I miss my Grandaddy's garden! My goodness the things I took for granted! Excited for you that all your siblings will be in once place, I imagine having all the cousins (grandchildren/nieces/nephews) together in once place is going to be so much fun for them!!! How cool to have such a big family! I'm with you about the elliptical, it didn't used to be my favorite but now I appreciate it a whole lot more!!! Being able to bike around must be really nice too! So glad that your recovery is going well!!!

  4. Love that you'll be going to spend time with your family next week; what a treat!

I'm reading " A few of the girls," the recently released Maeve Binchy short story collection. I love her writing and the stories are warm and cozy (well, most of them. Some are sad.)

Anticipating: my four-day weekend, a quieter week at work next week and then our vacation. It's going to feel like nearly two weeks off and I'm so thankful + grateful for that! That counts as my grateful, too, but I'm also grateful for a husband who realizes and recognizes when I need a break from step-momming for an hour or two and thanks me with big hugs and kind words each night.

I, too, am so excited to have all five children and families together next week and Paul's family this weekend! Busy days ahead so I, too, hope the weather cooperates!

  6. Look at your garden grow! Wowza!

I don't know if you follow Nicole Antoinette on Instagram, but I highly recommend it if you're thinking about visiting Bend. The pictures she posts (she lives there!) are STUNNING. Makes me wish I was a hiker!

  8. Your garden looks fantastic! Picking and eating food that you've grown yourself is one of the most satisfying (and delicious!) things ever.

  9. Wow -- your garden is going great guns! We've had the weather for it. And it sounds as though you've much to anticipate with the holiday and visit with family.

I'm reading a book by Neil Gaiman (sp?) called "Neverwhere" which isn't my cuppa and much prefer the Maisie Dobbs book I finished just before. Anticipating the fourth, as you are and seeing family and grateful for safe roadtrips and lovely days.

    (Three cheers on the workouts!)

  10. The progression of your garden is inspiring! I am a terrible planter/gardener. I admire people who garden successfully.

I'm anticipating the 8 hour road trip to Sugarface's hometown this weekend. Love visiting his family and spending time with them on their boat!

  11. I'm so jealous that you're going to see Adele! Your garden looks great! I just wrote a currently post since I don't have too much to say on the running front and hadn't done one of those types of posts for a while so you can see more there but I'm currently anticipating my Europe trip and currently reading The Moor's Account by Laila Lalami.

I'm excited to hear about and see pics of your BBQ :-) All the food you're making sounds good.

Reading - I brought home a couple books from the school library to read over the summer, but haven't gotten into them yet. I want to preview them for potential read-aloud books with my class next school year.

Anticipating - Eating a lot of lobster next week!
