Our Pre-Halloween Weekend

We had a fun and festive pre-Halloween weekend! On Friday I took the day off so I could get some extra time with Paul. I'm taking every other Friday off for the remainder of the year. It's a great way to get extra time with my little buddy! I went grocery shopping with Paul for the first time in months. It went ok but he's still a little bit small to ride in the grocery cart.

Reading a book together. He really likes holding the book and tries to turn the pages

He did not like wearing this hat indoors, hence the glum look on his face!

Having some oatmeal cereal for lunch. He's getting better at eating solids but still prefers breast milk.

He loves playing with this shape-sorter toy. He is too young to sort the shapes but he likes pulling the shapes out of the bucket and then plays with the empty bucket.

Phil's mom came over in the afternoon and stayed for dinner. We grilled brats and asparagus.

Reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, a household favorite

On Saturday we got together with my college friends in the afternoon and played cards with another couple in the evening.

I made sure to dress Paul in a cute outfit for the get together. This outfit is from my friend Heidi. Is there anything cuter than baby jeans?

On Sunday, we got together with my mom's group for brunch. It was so fun to see all the babies in their costume. I can not get over how cute Paul looks in his hedgehog costume! That was the best $12 I have spent recently!!

My Halloween costume = over-tired mama

I hate how wide my face looks in this photo but I need to be better about actually being in photos with Paul!
Later in the day we had friends over for our annual pumpkin carving party. Only 3 pumpkins were carved but it was still a fun night. We went "off brand" and carved a bat this year. I served 2 kinds of chili + apple crisp for dessert.

Paul loves being rough housed by daddy! He was laughing and squealing with delight!
It was a fun weekend, albeit way over-planned. Now I remember why I try to only plan one thing/day and ideally one thing/weekend. But every once in awhile I need to let go of my scheduling 'rules'!

Did you carve a pumpkin this year? Any fun Halloween plans?

  1. SO CUTE OMG ALL THE CUTES

Kelley and the kids went over to her dad's house and carved pumpkins last night. I was stuck doing grad school work, it was the first day of class. This is the first year Ella is really phoning in her costume and not going trick-or-treating :(

  2. Paul in his hat and his hedgehog costume is so cute!
It's too easy to avoid the camera when we're not feeling our best, but then later look back and wonder if we were even there :( Paul will really appreciate having those photos with his Mama when he's older :)

I decorated a little for Hallowe'en this year and had a good time doing it :)

  4. His little hedgehog custom, SO ADORABLE!!!!!! It's particularly hard to be overscheduled when you are sleep deprived! That's awesome that you are able to take the Friday's off, that will give you back some time and allow you to hopefully not feel quite so stretched thin. Good for you for being in the picture even if you're not happy with how your face looked. One day you will look back and think how sweet that day was and you will have the memory attached. We always say this but we are our own worst critics. I think your pumpkin turned out awesome!!! Little baby jeans are the best!!! I gave my nephew the cutest little outfit for his first birthday, baby jeans included :)

  5. You guys are great pumpkin carvers! And, BTW, I don't think your face looked wide in that picture at all! I wish the hedgehog was coming to my door tonight - so cute!

  6. He is incredibly cute in the cart and hat, even if he didn't like it. And the most adorable lion ever! Love Halloween with little ones.

And your pumpkins rock to the moon!

  7. What a cutie. He really had a Lisa look to him in the glum photo which is hilarious because I don't think of you as glum!

  8. Isn't it funny how critical we can be of ourselves, nitpicking over the silliest things? I saw that picture and thought how cute you and Paul looked, not how wide your face is (not that I think it is at all). And even if your face IS wide, that doesn't mean you don't deserve to be in pictures with your son!

I love Paul as a hedgehog. Made me smile. His little gummy smile is just so precious.

  9. He is such a cutie!!!

The pumpkins look great! I haven't carved a pumpkin in years. We dressed up on the Saturday before Halloween and went out for dinner and to do karaoke with friends. I was a wind-up doll, and Christopher was the same skeleton he is every year :-) On actual Halloween we stayed in and ordered pizza. Christopher did all the candy handing out, and I just chilled on the couch. One of our nieces stopped by, and one nephew, so that was nice.

  10. I love the hedgehog costume. Does it come in adult size? LOL

You carved some awesome pumpkins, too. I haven't done that in a few years.

  11. I am super late commenting once again but I'm so glad you had such a great time leading up to Halloween. You really got a lot of use out of Paul's costume at all those fun activities!! He looked sooooo cute in it.
