Happy Friday! Daycare is closed today for teacher training/conferences, so I'll be juggling childcare with Phil while trying to keep up with work email... fun! Our conference slots are at the end of the day. We have conferences twice/year. I really enjoy connecting with the boys' teachers to hear how they are doing. We don't see our kids' teachers at drop-off since we drop-off on the earlier side and the teachers are so busy at pick-up so our conversations are limited to me saying something like "buen dia?" to Will's teachers.
I did put my out of office on for today so people won't schedule client meetings so that should help! It has not been the best week with me feeling so under the weather. Here's how the week shaped up!
The book I read this week was All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir. This is classified as YA but don't let that classification deter you if you typically don't read YA. While the book is about 2 seniors in high school, it covers intense topics such as drug/substance abuse, racism, and other intense topics I can't reveal because they would be spoilers. So trigger warnings abound! It's about 2 Indian-American teens who are living on the margins in California. One lost both parents in an earthquake in Pakistan when she was a child and was rescued by her uncle. The other teen loses his mom early in the book and his father is an low-functioning alcoholic. I don't think I'd want a young teen reading this unless they were really mature and ready for hard topics... But it is very well-written 5-star book and I thought about the characters when I turned off my kindle every night.
The high of my week was nothing really? Is that bad to say? Some weeks just aren't great and this was one of them.
The low of my week was being sick and having to cancel my NYC trip. Besides my office visit in NYC, I was also going to attend a conference put on by my company for women in finance. So there were a lot of coworkers from all over the US in NYC this week. I rescheduled my trip to NYC for early November and it will still be a great trip but I'm sad I couldn't go this week.
A recipe I made was 3-bean turkey chili in the instant pot. This is another go-to recipe for us. The boys won't eat it, but Will did eat beans from it so that's something. Since our kids go to Spanish Immersion daycare, they eat a lot of beans and like them as a result.
Paul is still thoroughly enjoying the leaves! Will is less into them but I'm sure that will change next fall. |
Cat boy to the rescue!! |
I'm so sorry you had such a crappy week. I'm sad for you and your trip cancellation. Well, that's how it goes sometimes, but still. What bad timing, virus!!!
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been GLORIOUS here, so warm and sunny, but today is the day of change. It's chilly and we have rain/ snow in the forecast. That definitely feels more October-ish. Rex is a lover of cold weather, it seems, so I guess I'll be bundling up a lot!
What a tough week, Lisa. I'm so bummed you couldn't make it to NYC (running through Central Park sounded lovely), but it definitely appears to have been the right decision as you wouldn't have been able to enjoy the time not feeling 100%. But still, I'm so sorry. It's very frustrating to have health things crop up at unfortunate times!
ReplyDeleteIt has been lovely where we live. We did have a rain storm on Wednesday (and a door leaked - sigh), but the temperatures have been high! It's warmer now than it was weeks ago. I do NOT feel prepared for winter weather. I don't have winter boots - my old Sorels started leaking last year and I threw them out at the end of the season - and definitely need some extra winter gear but feel zero motivation to go looking for things yet but also know that BAM, the weather can change overnight. I'm trying to revel in the wonderful weather of fall, but know winter is lurking in the shadows!!
That light display looks great from last year and I hope it's a repeat success this time around, too.
I’m so sorry you’re still not feeling good! Hopefully this weekend helps give you some time to feel better! It did get crazy cold here! Although not as cold as where you are but you know I’m a weather wimp 😂 I’ll never forget my 2006 trip to visit my friend Margs when they lived in West Bend Wisconsin. It was October and it went from mild to snow in a day! I laughed out loud at Will’s pronunciation of Kitty 🤣 Happy Weekend!!!

Those pictures made me giggle. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry you've been under the weather! I hope you feel back to normal soon.
Ugh, sorry you had such a blah week. Well, it can only get better from here, right?
ReplyDeleteWhen I had Covid I just lay on the couch for a week. Then I read all these blogs where people were like "I had Covid so I only ran 5 miles instead of 10." WHAT? Sometimes you just need to rest.
When my daughter was little, one of her friends always called Hello Kitty "Hello Titty," hee hee!!!
I hope you have a good weekend, and can get back on track next week.
Ugh. I hate being sick and it really feels like it's been one thing after another for your family. Someday you'll all feel perfectly healthy again!
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been seesawing a fair amount here, but it's supposed to be really gorgeous this weekend, so I intend to take full advantage of that and spend lots of time outdoors!
Will's pronunciation of "kitty" reminds me of the child I had when I worked in a daycare who pronounced chicken "sh*tcken." We ALL got a kick out of that one! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI love the exuberance Paul has for these holiday events and maybe life in general? It seems like he's growing up to be a kid who just finds joy in everything!
I do not work out when I'm sick. (I also barely work out when I'm well, though, so I am not the barometer for you, haha.)
I had to look up with MEA weekend meant! Why are so many people out of town during this weekend?
The weather here has been AMAZING. Mostly, I'm happy that I've been able to turn my AC off for the time being. Hooray for an easier electric bill next month!
totally normal to have a no-high week. not everyday would be exciting and that's actually good because it makes us appreciate when those special days do happen.
ReplyDeleteI don't run when I'm really sick but i like to do light yoga to just move a bit.
my week has been more low than highs... part of life I guess. :)
Ugh, what a week. Between being sick and having to juggle childcare and work, I understand that exhaustion. I hope things lighten up a little bit next week.
ReplyDeleteI've been craving chili lately (although it's still too warm here to really make these fall recipes, but soon...!)
Poor Oscar! Glad she gets to go back to Grandma Joan! The arboretum looks great. Rick got back from MPLS last night with a bad cold (no doubt from Cam -- he stayed over and played with kids to and from.) I stayed home. Too many appointments. Someday, Lisa!
