It was a fall-like weekend in these parts with cool, dry temps. It was nice to not sweat copious amounts during the day but I am not ready for fall just yet! Here is how we filled the weekend.
On Friday night I was on my own with the boys as Phil was golfing with his cousins. Lately the boys have been interested in a wagon that we got from my parents years ago. So I pulled them around the neighborhood for awhile (which is quite the workout) and then we had dinner and did baths. Paul and I watched the Olympics after Taco was in bed and then I FaceTimed with a friend after he was in bed.
I suggested Paul wear a sweatshirt that morning but he declined… and then was cold so he draped my sweatshirt around himself while eating his donut. |
Is there something on my face? |
Measuring his wingspan! |
Paul had lots of fun with his buddies, a couple of which he went to daycare with. |
After about 3 hours at the zoo, we kept the party going and went to a park and got pizza. I walked 14k+ steps that day so my legs were tired!
I thought surely the boys would both sleep in with all that fresh air and activity, but nope. Taco was up at 5:40 on Sunday morning. Le sigh. Paul slept until 7, though. After Phil was up I headed out for my 8 mile training run. I am about a month out from my 10 mile race and feel like I am in a good spot with my training. I have no time goals - I just want to finish and have fun!
At about the halfway point. The lake was like glass that morning! |
While they were at the game, Taco and I went to the goose house to burn some time (twice actually because when we got there the first time he said he had to go to the bathroom and wanted to pee on the sidewalk like an animal and I was NOT HAVING THAT OBV). Luckily it’s only 6 blocks away. Of course I had asked him to go to the bathroom before we left the house but he said ‘I just went’. Why is there such refusal to use the bathroom before leaving the house? Both boys do this! But I digress… he did have a fun time at the goose house.
After that I was just done with coming up with things to do and had logged 22k steps so we watched part of Beauty and the Beast which he had started that am and The Little Mermaid - which I haven’t watched in probably 30 years and is weird to watch as an adult. Ariel is 16? And her father decides to make her a human so she can marry a stranger? What in the world? Disney plots are so odd.
After Taco went to bed, we watched a bit of the closing ceremonies with Paul. I am so sad that the Olympics is over! But at least in 2028 it will be in the states so we will get to watch more things live. In 4 years, the boys will be 7 and 10 which sounds wonderful. I’m not wishing time away - I’ve just recognized that the elementary school years are great in so many ways so I am looking forward to that stage of parenting.
How was your weekend?
Sounds like a great weekend, a lot of outdoor time, a solid long run and 20+ steps! I didn't see the olympics closing but did a lot of fun things and meal prep over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteGood on you for getting that run in after solo parenting and zoo time, sounds exhausting! Although, what great running weather this weekend, especially compared to last weekend. What race are you doing? Cristina and I are signed up for the TC10!
ReplyDeleteI am doing the Bear Water Run in about Bear Lake! I love the TC 10 mile but wanted something more low key with easier logistics (I don’t love the point to point aspect of the TC race).
DeleteWhy do boys always want to pee outside???!!!! That's what I want to know, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely jealous of your run and your running weather. I'm one week down on three weeks off running because of a sprained ankle (insert crying face here). I had a run in with a very mean pothole on a road that was being resurfaced :(.
Disney plots ARE weird. The Little Mermaid in particular is strange. Have you ever read the original fairy tales? I think it was in the pandemic when I read all of these Grimm's fairy tales and whoa nelly, things got a little strange. The Little Mermaid in particular is quite sad. I remember being obsessed with the tale of The Little Match Girl when I was a kid, and that is an incredibly tragic story. I don't know why I was so obsessed. Anyway, sounds like you had a pretty good weekend! I think I missed that you were training for a race. I guess I just thought you were doing long runs for the fun of it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, when you said you were done coming up with things to do, wow, I felt that. It's such a challenging and exhausting part of parenting, isn't it, being the cruise director? What a busy and fun weekend, though. I giggled about Taco wanting to pee on the sidewalk like an animal -- so cute.
ReplyDeleteYES to The Little Mermaid being such a weird story. There are so many things wrong with it! But the music is killer.
How exciting that your race is coming up! I'm glad the weather is cooperating for you as you train!
Wow, you fit a lot into the weekend this time!! I can see.that you went to SBUX earlier than we did, because the shadows are way bigger! I also love that Taco ate his donuts the same way every time. They need to make donut tops for kids. Or maybe just donut holes where the entire thing is frosted and sprinkled. It seems a waste to not eat the whole thing! Why don't they put more frosting on it??
ReplyDeleteRandom little mermaid starry...I was riding along in Wrigleyville the other day and this dude on the street with headphones was belting out "bright young women, sick of swimming!" I loved it and had that dang song in my head for te rest of the day!!
Wow, there are a lot of typos in my comment. FYI normally your site is in mobile view but for some reason today it came up in full site view... So the comment form is tinier! Not sure if it's me or you but it's a pain!
DeleteSounds like lots of fun stuff! We had a totally different weekend in that the boys were away at their cousin’s all weekend, so we had a rare kid free weekend! It was so nice. But I also felt sad watching parts of the Olympics closing ceremony, and then I also had the thought of, wow, at the next Olympics Asher will be entering college and Ethan going into sophomore year of college! Whoa. I’d love to somehow go to the Olympics but I am sure it’s insanely expensive and complicated. But I’d love to go watch the swimming!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a good weekend. Loads of fun. And you are a tough woman -- pulling a wagon is hard -- and ergonomically challenging! I love seeing those smiles and happy faces. These kids have a good life!
ReplyDeleteMaddy eats donuts the same way as Will. They would be great donut buddies - as she always gets pink frosting with sprinkles!
ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a fun day. It’s weird seeing sweatshirts. I’m so ready for that. Maddy said the other day while driving home from the library “I just want it to be fall!!!” 😂
I also look forward to the elementary years. I am so ready to ditch interrupted sleep and tantrums over every aspect of everything .

I'm SO SAD the Olympics are over- but also excited that next time they'll be in LA. I'm definitely not wishing the time away though, because in four years my daughter will be a sophomore in COLLEGE. Putting it in the time frame of the next Olympics shows me how close that really is, eek (slow down, time!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice weekend, and I'm glad you got a little time to yourself. And nice job on that run- I'm looking forward to your race!
We’ve now trained our daughter… so every time we leave the house she realizes, she has to go to the bathroom even if she had just gone… or wouldn’t have gone for hours if we stayed home. So everyone else is in the car waiting on her. You can never win! 😂
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the future when you can wake the boys up at 5:30am on the weekends to make up for all the times they did that to you when they were kids! Muahahaha
ReplyDeleteI'm sad the Olympics are over, but only a year and a half until the Winter Olympics! (I like Summer better than Winter, but it's fun to have something to watch!)
I can't believe your kids are wearing sweatshirts in August! It's so hot here that even the thought of being outside with my Starbucks order is too much, ha.
We have a theory in our house that we have now trained our bladders to overreact because we go to the bathroom every time right before we leave our house. Going to work? Bathroom first. Running over the library? Bathroom first. Going to the store? Bathroom first. Now if I so much as take out the trash, but don't go to the bathroom, I'll start to get warnings from my bladder before I reach the trash can. Maybe your boys just don't want this to be their lives!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a packed weekend. 3 hours at the zoo. That would tire me out. I can't believe he was up at 5:40. Eek. I do miss the Olympics too. It was fun to not have to think of what to put on the TV. OMG - there was a boy in my daycare who had to pee all the time. Smallest bladder ever. Running the bases at the baseball game had to be so much fun. Running a 10 mile race - yikes. I'm not sure I realized that's what you are training for. I ran an extra half mile the last few times I ran to make it to 5 miles. I can't imagine doing another 5 on top of that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great weekend!! I realized this week that ages 4-7 are my VERY LEAST FAVORITE AGES, and I thought of you and your toddler challenges. I feel the same way only with older preschool/young elementary. THERE IS SO MUCH WHINING MY GOODNESS. Luckily, they are darling still. By the time the awkward gangly limbs and wild teeth emerge, they behave like humans again.
ReplyDeleteYou had a very full weekend again. So glad you got out for your 8-mile run. I am so happy to hear you're feeling good and you feel prepared for the 10-miler!!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of Paul and Taco with their donuts... interesting way to eat it, Taco! ;)
The donut pics alone put this high on my posts-of-the-week list. The frosting, LOL. Also, I'm with Engie - I stress if I haven't gone to the bathroom within 5 minutes of leaving. Then, of course, you feel like you have to go even though you don't! At least he didn't just do what he wanted without time for you to intervene! :)
ReplyDeleteWe started having fallish like weather in NC in August and it was appreciated. I knew summer would come back but coolish runs are always a nice gift! I love that Paul got to run the bases after the game, that's amazing!!!
