My 10 mile race on Saturday morning went really well! Hurrah! I wasn’t super confident going into the race as I was just so dang tired from an intense week of travel. But I knew I had trained adequately and luckily my body did not let me down.
While I was running, Phil was golfing at a charity tournament with my old coworker. They won the tournament for the 2nd year in a row! It’s a par 3 scramble which is not a typical format for a tournament but he has enjoyed winning it the last 2 years. My MIL watched the boys (we stayed at her house Friday night since the race was in her town) while we were out running and golfing. It’s nice that they are at ages/stages where she can handle them on her own for a couple of hours.
The boys slept past 7 on Sunday which is such a treat. We went to church/Sunday school and the boys had matching shirts. It was hot and humid. Where is the fall weather? I like sunshine but I don’t need humidity in September!
Phil golfed with friends in the afternoon as a belated birthday celebration so he got to golf twice in one weekend! The boys had swimming lessons and then we went to a birthday party.
I travel again this week - this time to Dallas Tuesday-Thursday where the highs will be in the mid-90s. Bleh. I’ve officially reached the point where I am ready for cool, crisp fall temps! It looks like the weather will cool off next weekend in Minneapolis, though.
How was your weekend? Has it been unseasonably warm where you are?

Sophie here- Amazing work on your race Lisa, great outcome! Particularly after a tiring work week of travel. Glad it wasn’t too hot too!
Great job on your race, Lisa!! And good luck with your travel week, hope it all goes well.
Great job! It's so rewarding to train hard and then actually have a good race :). Especially since you didn't go into it with 100% ideal conditions.
It is still super humid here. I'm very ready for cooler weather but it's still about two months off :(.
Congrats! I haven't been running in months so anybody doing anything more than like a km is astonishing to me at this point. Great work, especially after such a busy week of travel which is always extra exhausting. Glad the boys slept in!
Woot woot! Congrats on the race. You did great. I don't mind running in rain if it is a drizzle, but actual rain would've been tough for me. Sounds like the family was on their A game that day with Phil winning the golf tournament too.
It's been really hot here. I hate having the AC on in September, because it gets cool at night and then I feel like the inside of the house is warmer than it is outside, but if I turn off the AC, people complain that it's too hot to sleep. Irritating to spend money on AC in mid to late September. I hate cold temps, so I'm gonna try to enjoy it for as long as possible.
YASSSS!!!! I just had a feeling that you would rock this race, and you did. I love it when it's just a little too hot/humid to run and then the rain comes and instantly the problem is solved.
It was very hot this weekend, and I was on one of my trips and doing a lot of walking. I noticed that it was warm, but it felt strangely kind of nice. Normally I would get fatigued and be sweating like a pig, but none of that was happening. I was chatting with someone and they said, "yes it's hot but there's no humidity" and that's when I figured it out - dry heat! It was a very nice change.
Congratulations on this wonderful race! Well done!! I love this picture of the boys in their shirts. How big they are, how time flies.
This weekend we mainly dealt with the passing of our cat so it was a very quiet, introspective Sunday for T and I. Saturday, before we found her, we had a play date with a long time friend of mine, Sarah, who disappeared then reached out to us last week. It was nice to see her and catch up.
Congrats! You are so amazing! I'm so proud of you.
It was miserably hot here this weekend. The poor dog. She just couldn't handle it. And, frankly, neither could I.
You are a rockstar, Lisa! Way to go!!! And yay for Phil on his win -- how fun.
It is quite warm here -- I think it's supposed to get up to 80 today -- but no humidity, so I'm relishing it.
Hope your travel week goes smoothly!
Amazing!! Congratulations to you and your body. :)
Great job on your race! It is too bad that it rained, but it sounds like it did not derail you from getting it done! Sometimes I don't mind if it rains as long as it is not raining before I start, so it seems like you kind of got lucky in that case.
The weather in Portland has been definitely getting cooler; it was about 40 degrees this morning and there were a couple of crazy hard rain storms on Saturday, one which was not expected and I got drenched! It is supposed to rain again tomorrow, but hopefully then it will be done for a while, as I will be back on the bike in a few days!
congrats for the great performance and cool weather/rain to make it enjoyable. And Phil is really good with golfing, winning tournament and all. Amazing!
Tell me about wanting a cool weather... when it's 20s Celsius here in jakarta, i feel like winning a lottery. heheh... my low standard. :)
It sounds like a very good one. We've been mid-80s too but no real humidity. I'm happy to keep that up! Have a great trip to Dallas!
Congratulations! Sounds like it went really well overall, yay.
I'm so glad to hear your 10-mile race went well even though it rained the whole time! What a bad*ss you are!
It hasn't been unseasonably hot here. Just normal hot, lol. It's always miserable in September, but I'm hoping we can see some highs in the low 80s soon!
Congratulations on your race. You did really well. And I agree, I'd much rather run in the rain than the heat... although that probably upped the humidity.
So glad that Phil could also play the gold tournament while the boys stayed with your MIL. Congrats to Phil as well. :)
I don't know what happened to my blog reading this week, but I missed a couple people's blog posts. And the whole week I've been wondering why you haven't posted a recap of your race yet! Ha, it's been here all along. I think you did GREAT! A 10 min/mile pace for 10 miles is something to be proud of. Definitely don't compare yourself to your old pre-kid self! Not to say that you can't run that fast again- maybe you will, maybe you won't- but now is not the time for it. Congratulations- you really worked hard to prepare for this race, and it all paid off. I wish you had beautiful, cool weather for the race, but oh well. Hopefully you'll get that this weekend!
That's so so good! Well done! And it's nice to have such active weekends.
Congratulations! That's so amazing and impressive.
The kids slept in until 7? Delicious!
It's been cool and lovely here for maybe 10 days or so, I've been loving it. It's going to get hot again for a couple of days early next week, but then cool down again, so I guess that's OK. It's dry here, not humid, so not too bad.
Congratulations on your race. I had to google how long ten miles is in km because I always forget, but that is a good distance, well done.
That's a fabulous time for the 10 miles! My goal next week is to just enjoy the run. It's crazy how much running goals have changed since having kids and being in this heavier, older body
Ok I know I talked to you and congratulated you already but just wanted to make it blog official too - congrats on a great race! Bummer about the rain but... ah, that's the midwest for you, right? Always has to keep us guessing... I ran a half marathon once where it dumped rain on me for the whole first half and then the sun came out and it was HOT and I roasted for the second half (wet/ humid....). Ha. Good times! I just remember being annoyed that my socks and shoes were all wet and worrying about getting blisters!
Wow, you did an amazing job at the race! Heat! Humidity! RAIN! You do so much while dealing with so many things in your life... Thinking of you in this time of travel and hope you are getting some time at home with Phil and the kiddos. <3
