I'm back with the first edition of Ten on Tuesday in 2010, courtesy of Chelsea. Want to play along? Just click on the 'Ten on Tuesday' clip art on her blog - she posts the questions on Monday night!
This week's questions are all food/cooking/kitchen related! I know quite a few foodies read this blog - you should definitely play along this week!!
1. Are there any movies that inspire you to bake/cook?
- Julie & Julia does, but then I get super intimidated by the thought of making a Julia Child recipe!
2. What’s your favorite food blog and why?
- Mine is Gluten-Free Goddess. Her recipes are awesome - I swear you wouldn't even know there wasn't any gluten in them!
3. Who’s your favorite celebrity chef?
- Alton Brown! I love how he incorporates science in his cooking show!
4. What’s your favorite kitchen tool?
- Probably my rice cooker. Seriously, if you like rice but don't own one, go buy one. The rice turns out amazing when you use a rice cooker.
5. When it comes to cooking/baking, what’s your specialty?
- Probably Shrimp Pasta Arrabiata.
6. When in the kitchen, do you wear an apron, if so, any cute ones you’d like to share?
- Heck yes! An apron in the kitchen is a must! My current favorite is the one I'm wearing below - I bought the aprons that my aunt & I are wearing at Anthropology. They have the BEST aprons! And by the way - I think aprons are the best gift - it's definitely my go to gift for the ladies in my life!
7. Is there anything that intimidates you when it comes to baking/cooking? (ex. Pie crust, yeast breads, sauces, etc…)
- yes, yes, and yes - when it comes to cooking. I can handle baking because baking requires precision. A recipe for cookies or a cake doesn't say, "sugar to taste". I HATE it when a recipe say 'salt to taste' or 'season to taste'.
8. What’s the weirdest gadget in your kitchen?
- I can't really think of anything weird!
9. What’s your go-to music for cooking/baking?
- Lately, I have been listening to the Buena Vista Social Club. It's great background music for all the slicing & dicing!
10. After several failures, what do you do to motivate yourself to get back in the kitchen to try again?
- Well, I have no option but to go back and try again. I live alone and a person can only eat so many microwaved baked potatoes. Luckily, since I live alone, I am the only person who knows when something is a complete failure!
Haha, I basically only cook for myself too so unless it's terrible I just eat it anyway and at least no one else knows about the failure :)
ReplyDeleteLots of things about cooking intimidate me too, "to taste" is so sketchy, what if different people have different taste haha...I guess thats the challenge of cooking!
Very fun Ten on Tuesday, Lisa! I am sure you are a great cook. I always look forward to reading about what you've been cooking.
ReplyDeleteIts only been in the past few years that I've gotten adventurous in the kitchen (and by adventurous, I mean using the stove).
I've learned that you just have to give a recipe a go. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. Once I challenged myself to make all the recipes on one of my favorite food blogs, sometimes it took 3 or 4 tries for one dish.
Oh I love your apron! I need to get a good one for myself- they're key. And keep me from being covered in flour.
ReplyDeleteAnd the next time I'm in MN we can have an unofficial Alton Brown fan club meet up! Did you know he sells the flip top salt container he uses on the show? I want one.
I LOVE Buena Vista Social Club!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd, this is a very fun Ten on Tuesday!
The one thing that intimdates me the most are sauces. I'm always afraid they will be either too bland or too strong. I need to master the art of the sauce though. I'm Italian after all!
ReplyDeleteOh I LOVED this foodie version of 10 on Tuesday. That shrimp penne arrabiata sounds pretty darn delicious!!!! And I LOVE your apron. I should buy a new, cute one. I just have an old ratty brown one! Haha
ReplyDeleteFun!! I'm all into cooking and foodie stuff now with my resolutions and all so I loved this. Julie and Julia is what inspired me to learn to cook! Although I have yet to try a Julia Child recipe, I plan on attempting at least one this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd pie crust intimidates me - I wanted to make some so badly at Christmas but I was too chicken so my mine pies ended up being tarts lol
Great themed ten on tues! I'm going to have to check out Gluten Free Goddess. Looks like some great food!
ReplyDeleteCutest apron ever!
ReplyDeleteI just made chicken with artichokes for a "friend" the other night. It's one of my fave, easy go-to recipes.
BTW, if I haven't mentioned this before, one day when you visit NYC you and I will be having dinner at Otto, which is one of my faves. They already have all of my food allergies in the computer so I feel really safe there and for GF chicks like you, they can make all of their pizza's and pasta's GF! Imagine that, a delicious restaurant that you and I can both eat at!
Haha, microwaved baked potatoes! Once I finally figured out how to properly micro-bake my potatoe, I've been eating a lot of those myself. Although the microwave still smells like burning from the time I messed up.
ReplyDeleteI love Julie & Julia! And it's so true, it always makes me want to cook :)
