Here's a couple of random things that happened in bullet point form:
- At the beginning of the 6 mile training run, I met a girl who is running the Twin Cities Marathon and then the following week she is going out to Portland to cheer on a friend that is running the Portland Marathon! How random is that? So she said she will definitely cheer us girls on! Yea! I've rounded up a spectator!
- A couple of miles back, I decided to hang back with the 9-9:30 pace group as I knew the 8-8:30 pace wasn't sustainable for 6 miles. I ended up running with a guy that is a law clerk and works with one of my good friend's husbands! Again, how random is that! Minneapolis is a big city - what are the chances I meet someone that works with my friend's husband?
- I got back to my condo and was getting a mail and ran into another resident. He looked at me and said, "How was the pool water?" (there is a pool in my condo association). I had to awkwardly say, "um, I haven't been swimming. I just got back from a 6 mile run...." What can I say - it was a hot/humid 6 mile run and I swear, ever since I trained for my first marathon in 2006, I sweat way more and way more easily (probably TMI, I know). My friend that is a nurse said this is a good thing and it means my body is more efficient. I'm not such a fan of it... but I feel less bad about occasionally drinking pickle juice since I am losing a lot of sodium! Or at least that is what I tell myself.
If you want to hear me talk about something besides running and perspiration, head over to Becky's Blog! I'm guest posting about believing in love today!
how was the pool? - That was funny. Good for you, Lisa!!! I read these posts and it inspires me to work harder in the gym!!
ReplyDeleteHow funny he thought you had been swimming! It is so humid here. Last night I spent four hours in front of a room full of people leading rehearsal and there was no ventilation or air conditioning the entire evening. By the time I was finished, I probably could have had the same comment made to me as well! I was sipping my morning coffee when I read the line about drinking pickle juice. Just didn't work well at that moment!!! Have a good day!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a small world. There's something incredibly comforting in that.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it odd when you meet friends of friends?
ReplyDeleteI was one in the toilet queue at a very small gig in Glasgow, and got talking to the boy behind me, and it turned out he'd been viewing the very room I lived in(in Dundee! when I was a student. It was ODD.
I like knowing that the world is such a small place! I can totally relate to the pool comment! It's why I was so completely shocked that S introduced himself to me I looked like I had been for a swim. Anytime I run I am like that. My least favorite is when all that sodium comes out your pores. I think you're just fine drinking that pickle juice!
ReplyDeleteThe pickle juice thing cracks me up. My old guy roommate used to drink it straight out of the jar too and would always look embarassed, not like I cared what he drank! I can't picture you doing it though =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a small world indeed! And thanks for guest posting today!
ReplyDeleteI love people's random comments - sometimes i wonder why people say things! So they even think about stuff before they speak??
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to get out to the running group! It is funny how small the world is and how we meet random people in such interesting places!
Oh, so funny. Um, hm, so Mr. friend of a friend...single??? Just inquiring.
ReplyDeleteHaha that's such a funny and awkward encounter! Did the guy blush after you told him that you were running and not swimming?
ReplyDeleteThe world definitely is small! I went to Dominican with my mom and brother, and my brother met a girl from Edmonton, which is where my fiance grew up. The girl's older sister went to school with my fiance...so strange!
So excited you found us a spectator! Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm still laughing about the pool guy. LOL
Minneapolis is one of the few places my boyfriend is ok with us moving too.(Chicago is #2) I love hearing about stuff like this! It sounds like a great place to live :)
ReplyDeleteThese boys - were they cute?!? You do realize running groups are a great place to meet prospective mates, right????!!!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI find that those "coincidences" happen more often than not. Even (especially?) in the big city, it seems we're always running into someone who knows someone who knows us...
ReplyDeleteI'm so grateful for your nurse friend's input. I too became more and more of a sweater as I started running more and more... who knew?
That is too funny about the neighbor. Your list of funny comments from your condo is growing!! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt really is a small world! That's insane! And that's great you'll have someone to cheer you on at Portland.
Glad to hear that training is going well!!
was the law clerk cute? single? ;)
ReplyDeleteyay for running! ;) i need to work up the motivation to run/walktonight i typically do it in the morning to NOT get into this problem but i was out late at teh tigers game last night and then i had to tutor early.. andlet's just say that i need to let dinner digest so i can do a 1.5 mile run.. without music.. eeek my mp3 player is sick/not turning on!!!!
I love the pool comment- and how cool that you bumped into someone who's going to the Portland Marathon! She'd better be shaking her pom poms for you! :)
ReplyDeleteThe world is small indeed, and it's great you got a supportive spectator out of it!
