Ten on Tuesday

Another batch of questions from the lovely Chelsea of Roots and Rings!

1. Do you decorate for Valentine’s day?
No, but I did in college - I used to put up these pink, heart shaped lights. I was known for loving Valentine's Day - even though I was always single. I know many people hate Valentine's Day - and I do not care for the commercialized aspect of the holiday, but I do love that there is one day of the year where we are reminded to tell the people we love that we love them. I know you shouldn't need a holiday to do this, but sadly, some people do.

2. Does your desktop have a picture or computer graphic? Is it organized?
My desktop if organized. I can not stand a cluttered desktop with tons of files saved out there. It makes me cringe when I see that someone's entire desktop is filled with files! I have to resist the urge to organize it for them. I have no picture in the background - it's just a boring blue background!

3. Do you use a paper planner, electric planner or no planner at all?
In the past, I printed off calendars and used them to plan out my life. But they are not very portable, obviously, so I needed a new system. After Amber raved about her Erin Condren planner (and seeing it in person on our Portland trip), I decided to invest in one. It should arrive this week - can't wait!

4. Do you change purses or bags often or stick with a good thing?
I am sort of hard on purses because of the amount of stuff I haul around, so I change them somewhat frequently.

5. What’s your favorite YouTube Video?
I don't have one... I really am not on YouTube much!

6. Do you use Turbo Tax or a real person to pay your taxes?
I use an H&R Block tax filing program and file my own. I actually enjoy doing my taxes. :)

7. How many states have you set foot (or tire) in? Which ones?
Oh geez, that's a good question... I don't even know.... Maybe 20? That number would far lower had I not gone on trip to California with my grandparents in their motor home. I really have not seen much of the US!

8. How many countries have you been in? Which ones?
I have been to 10, in the following order: Canada, England, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Dominican Republic, France.

9. How many pillows are in your house? (Sleeping or decorative)
I have 2 sleeping pillows, 5 decorative pillows on my bed, and 4 pillows in my living room which are boring ones that came w/ my furniture.

10. How cold is too cold for flip flops?
Maybe 50 degrees? I am actually not a huge fan of flip flops so I don't really wear them all that often! I'd prefer to wear flats over flip flops...

  1. As I read your blog, I looked around my desk. It is covered with files, loose papers, sticky notes reminding me to do things, folders I haven't filed yet, mail I haven't read yet - Yikes! And your Dad is worse! I so want to be organized at work but the hours go to fast! You have been to so many countries! That is amazing!

  2. I have to organize my computer desktop on a weekly basis; it feels good. I have one of the chnging scenery backgrounds. I kind of love it.

Ah, flip-flops. I hope to wear them in Florida when I go next weekend. At least I hope so if the weather will cooperate, which I think/pray it will :)

Oh, and totally with you on the planner thing. I have one that I got in DC last summer and I just love it. Portable, durable and works super well.

  4. I can't wait to hear what you think of the planner!!!!

My desk is usually a MESS during the day while I'm working but I ALWAYS tidy it up before I leave work :)

You have been to SO many countries! You're such a world traveler :)

  5. I've always loved Vday even when single. Man, it's crazy to see what college kids wear. Like flip flops in the dead of winter and sometimes even short skirts. It's ridiculous.

  7. I totally agree with you about having a cluttered desktop - it drives me insane! But I like a changing background, because I get bored of having just one.

  8. Dang. You are totally beating me in the countries department. ;)

I favor flip-flops over flats more often than not because my feet have really never gotten used to flats! They make my arches feel tight and always (always!) leave blisters on the back of my ankle.

  9. I have a wedding picture as my background on my computer...it makes me happy :) I use a paper planner...I like being able to write things down and see it all in front of me in person

  11. I'm the same way about cluttered desktops - can't stand it! And flats are vastly superior to flip flops indeed!

  12. That's cute that you decorated for V-Day! You make a good point about the day -- that it is nice to have one day for us to remind those close to use that we love them!

Plus, I like the candy sweethearts.

You know you're "Type-A" when you're excited about a new organizer/calender to arrive! Yu'll have to let me know how you like it. I need something good. I rely so much on my blackberry -- but I'm not a big fan of the blackberry's planner.

  15. This is a really good one! We don't really do Valentine's at all. Since we got married, we celebrate our anniversary instead (I am told I am loved regularly though!)

We have 13 pillows in total in the Dundee flat, 5 of which are bed ones. In Paisley we have 2 bed pillows and about 8 random scatter cushions. I like cushions!

  16. Hello, well traveled person!
I use iCal, being an Apple person. It syncs between my phone, computer and Paul's ipod touch and I publish it so he also has it on his laptop. That system is so much easier than when we would have to sit down with our handwritten planners from work and write everything down on the central home calendar. The chance of error was extremely high!
