First things first, a big congratulations goes out to Nora - she got engaged on Saturday night! You can read all about it (and check out her gorgeous ring) here! Last year was totally the year of the baby as multiple friends found out there were expecting. 2011 is totally the year of the engagement! First Amber, then Charbelle, now Nora! And, ahem, I have or will have run races with these 3 ladies. Granted Nora and I haven't started training yet, but we've registered. So I am 3 for 3 on racing partners getting engaged. I might register for a race and start to refer to myself in the 3rd person and see any of my luck rubs off on myself...
Anywho, back to the regularly schedule post... Chelsea's Ten on Tuesday is a book themed one. Woo hoo!
1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
One of my favorite books is the travel memoir, Without Reservations by Alice Steinbach. She takes a sabbatical from her job and travels to Paris, Italy, and Oxford. Some (or maybe all, can't remember) of the chapters begin with a postcard that she sends to herself at home. Brilliant idea, right? I kind of wish I had done that on my Paris trip...
2. Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
I mostly buy books... The books I want to read never seem to be available at the library - especially books for book club. Sometimes I am not patient enough to wait months to read a book so I just buy it.
3. E-readers, yay or nay?
Love them. I have been meaning to do a post about my nook for awhile... I resisted e-readers for the longest time and finally caved and bought one last fall. Best. Decision. Ever.
4. What was your favorite book as a child?
It was a Mickey Mouse version of the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
5. If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
Maybe Madeline so I could live in France. Except, I'd want to be an adult version of her. I have no desire to be a child again.
6. What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
That's a tough one... Maybe City of Thieves? I really enjoyed that book and I think the plot lends itself well to a screen play.
7. What is your all-time favorite book?
Tuesdays with Morrie. I usually read it about once a year when I need an attitude adjustment!
8. How many books do you read at once?
Usually just 1. I get confused or lose focus otherwise!
9. What is your favorite book genre?
Travel memoirs! Especially if they are set in France. :)
10. Which Harry Potter book is the best? Or haven’t you read them at all?
I don't think I can pick a favorite, I love them all!
I love this Travel Tuesday- I have already added 2 new books to my "To read" list- not that I really needed more books on that list haha.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed by people who can read more than 1 book at a time, that would confuse me too! haha. I do read a teaching book and a regular book sometimes but I could never do 2 books with two different plots.
I find the movie question really hard- I almost always hate the books turned movies (the books are always so much better) that I'd rather my favorite books just stay books haha.
I'm going to have to give Tuesdays with Morrie a go!
ReplyDeleteI am going to download your book recommendation today. I love the idea of the postcard as well, and I might just send myself one from NYC this weekend. How clever!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love Madeline! That is one of my favorite children's book series to this day. And love that your favorite book a kid involved Mickey Mouse.
ReplyDelete(ALso, super thanks for the shout out. You're a doll and clearly a good luck charm! You should start marketing yourself as such somehow & reap the benefits. Hopefully somehow our luck will rub back off on you too!)
I'm currently in the process of re-reading the Harry Potter series. And, I don't care what anyone says - I seriously love those books. Her imagination is incredible!
ReplyDeleteI think I've read Tuesdays with Morrie? I'm not sure. I guess I should just re-read it and see. I also loved Mitch Albom's 'The five people you meet in heaven' - I thought that was a really good book and the lifetime movie made from it was really good too.
ReplyDeleteI can't really pick a favourite Harry Potter book either, there all so good!!
I am right with you on the e reader. I love mine.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read Emile Zola's "The Belly of Paris"? It is on my list. It is set in nineteenth-century Paris, in Les Halles, to be exact.
I have not read any of Mitch Albom's books but have heard people rave about them for years now. I really should pick them up. I also buy books when I'm too impatient to wait for them at the library. It's my guilty indulgence and honestly, I don't care. It could be way worse! ;)
ReplyDeleteOooh, this is a fun one, I think Im going to do it! Oh and I read Nora's engagement story and it was beautiful, I love when things go wrong and end up being even more perfect because of it!
ReplyDeleteMust revisit this when I can actually spend time to read it!
ReplyDeleteOh I'd love to know your thoughts on your e-reader! I'm loving mine too :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely think #3 of the Harry Potter series is my favorite. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Sirius Black.
ReplyDeleteI've yet to jump on the e-reader bandwagon but yours looked super cute when you were here reading it. I can definitely see the benefit of it if you travel a lot.
Your answer to #5 is brilliant, and that is EXACTLY what I would have said if I would have been brilliant enough to come up with that answer. I love Madeline.
ReplyDeleteTuesdays with Morrie is a fabulous book and I too have read it multiple times. Everyone should read it.
IT's official, you and I need to train for a race together! ;) However, I'm not sure I can wait until 2013 to get engaged. Manfriend better be a BIT quicker than that. I'm so demanding...
ReplyDeletemy goodness, I love this one!
ReplyDeleteI am a 4 books at a time person. I can't finish a book if I am not in the mood for that sort. Actually at the moment I have 5 on the go!
I think the 3rd or the 6th Harry Potter was my fave. I should re-read those. But I suck at re-reading because there are so many books to read!
ReplyDeletei'm with you on the HP question. i love books 3&4 (book 5 stressed me out waaay too much/actually made me sob at the end when you know who you know whats) but 7 was just so perfect. how could i choose a fav?!
ReplyDeleteI think I might have to check out Without Reservations....
